Two Arrests in Preschool Abuse

Another woman is behind bars in connection with a child abuse case at a Head Start preschool in Kinston.

Bus driver Angela Gardner and bus monitor Sukisshi Hayes are both charged with misdemeanor child abuse.

They are accused of leaving three-year-old Chamere Arnold locked on a school bus for nine hours last week.

Officials from the preschool are not commenting on the incident.

Authorities say no more arrests are expected in this case.

A affirmative action corrections officer at the Valencia County Detention Center ended up behind bars last week when she was caught allegedly smuggling heroin into the jail for two inmates.

After working for the facility for about a year, for a couple of days Renee Contreras joined the inmates she was trusted to protect.

Last week deputies reported they caught Contreras bringing in drugs for two inmates inside.

“Apparently she had been bringing in marijuana for some time,” Valencia County sheriff’s Deputy Ed Chavez said. “We don’t know exactly how long but had moved up to bringing heroin into the detention facility.”

Contreras apparently fessed up to some of the crimes. Court documents said Contreras got the drugs from someone inside a Los Lunas house.

Investigators later found marijuana, possible mushrooms and a scale inside the home.

Contreras is accused of delivering the drugs to the resident’s relative and a friend already inside the detention center.

In return, Contreras allegedly pocketed $50.

The jail’s warden said drugs smuggled into the facility are a common problem he’s trying to stop.

Police were searching Friday for three men in connection with the shooting death of a Fayetteville man a week ago.

Bobby Eugene Clemmons, 23, was left at the emergency entrance to Highsmith Rainey Hospital on Dec. 19 after being shot, and he later died, police said.

Police recovered the vehicle they believe Clemmons was in when he was dropped off at the hospital. The black Kia was located near Fordham Drive.

The location where the shooting occurred hasn’t yet been determined, police said.

David William Covington, 23, of 204 Brinkley St., was arrested Thursday and charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, conspiracy to commit murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle. He was being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center on a $210,000 secured bond.

Police were searching for the following men in the case:

Larry Donnell Everett, 23, of 1110 Clark St.; Kajuan Kenneth Toles, 24, of 827-A Orange St.; and Ricky Lavelle Martin Jr., 19, of 289 Ingram St.

Another man who was identified last week as a person of interest in the case has been questioned and released, police said.

Knoxville police have issued a warrant for the arrest of Cornelius Dominic Matthews, 26 of Knoxville.

Matthews is wanted for attempted first degree murder after a Christmas morning stabbing on Jourolman Avenue.

Cops say he stabbed Callie N. Powers, 25, three times in the chest as they both sat in a car on Joroulman Avenue around 3:00 a.m. on Christmas morning.

Powers’ daughter was in the back seat of the car, but was not injured.

Powers was taken to UT Medical Center for treatment, her condition has not been released.

Matthews is described at 6 foot 1 inches tall, 210 lbs.

His last known address was 207 Bell St. and police say he is known to hangout on Virginia Avenue in the Western Heights neighborhood.

Hemet police arrest suspect in rapes at senior housing complex

Police arrested a suspect in three rapes Friday shortly after a break-in was attempted at an apartment in a Hemet senior-citizen housing complex.

Kenneth Daniels Jr., 21, of San Jacinto, was taken into custody shortly after 1:30 a.m. near the Oak Terrace Senior Apartments off North Santa Fe Street. He is suspected of attacking and raping two female residents — including one found dead from her injuries earlier this month — in the Hemet apartment complex.

“We’re confident that we have the right guy and the community can take a deep breath now,” said Hemet police Lt. Jeff Pinney.

He said a 63-year-old woman who was assaulted in August and again in October has identified Daniels as the attacker. Other evidence, which Pinney declined to detail because the investigation is ongoing, also pointed to the man, according to Pinney.

In an earlier interview, the police lieutenant said DNA evidence had been collected at the previous crime scenes.

The last attack, which occurred earlier this month, was on a 74-year-old woman who used a wheelchair. Officers found her dead Dec. 11. Police say her death was related to the attack, but the coroner’s office has not officially ruled it a homicide.

Pinney said the attacker preyed on Oak Terrace complex residents who had left doors or windows unlocked. On Thursday, Hemet police released surveillance videos.

The release of the videos generated more than a half-dozen tips, but police had not yet listened to them when Daniels was arrested.

Early Friday morning, undercover police officers saw a man who matched the description of the person on the videos jump over the wrought-iron fence that surrounds the complex, according to a Hemet Police Department news release. A short time later, a police dispatcher received a call from a female resident, who said someone was trying to break into her apartment through a partially open window.

Officers quickly responded and saw a man exit the complex through a gate and walk rapidly away. Police ordered the man to stop, but he fled, the release said.

Daniels was arrested nearby after a brief struggle with officers, the release said.

Police said an ape-man and a dumb ass woman connected to a deadly stabbing in a supermarket parking lot had prior criminal records.

They may be responsible for similar robberies in Middle Tennessee, according to Metro police.

Since the fatal stabbing Tuesday afternoon, police have received a lot of tips.

After police released surveillance video to local media, they received many phone calls.

Police said the video shows Robert Earl Williams walking away from a Kroger store on East Thompson Lane. Williams is walking from the store a few seconds before he grabbed the purse of a 60-year-old woman and killed a 54-year-old man trying to help her.

On Wednesday, police issued warrants for two suspects in Jerry J. McEwen’s death. The warrants charge Williams and Stephanie Lynn Hudson with criminal homicide.

Police said tips from callers helped them identify Williams and Hudson as the suspects.

“We have spent the overnight hours and much of today running leads, trying to find this couple,” said Don Aaron, Metro police spokesman. “Thus far, those efforts have been unsuccessful.”

Leads have taken police outside of Davidson County.

Hudson has ties to Lewisburg and Marshall County. In Marshall County, she was convicted of forgery in 1999. She received a 10-year prison sentence.

“Robert Williams has a history of violence,” Aaron said.

He was paroled for a third time from prison in May.

His lengthy criminal record dates back to the 1980s. The convictions include armed robbery and assault with intent to commit murder in Madison County.

In Hickman County, he was convicted later of assault with intent to commit murder.

In 2001, he was convicted of carrying a weapon in Shelby County.

“I guess you shouldn’t be surprised looking at his history that he would have pulled a large knife and stabbed a man in the chest who was trying to recover a purse from a senior citizen,” Aaron said.

Rutherford County Sheriff’s deputies arrested three people they think are involved in a La Vergne shooting Sunday morning.

A 29-year-old woman survived the attack on Beesley Road.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested 34-year-old Robert Adams, 27-year-old Kesha Adams and 33-year-old Kristie Michelle Ray. They all live in La Vergne.

Deputies issued a nationwide alert for 24-year-old Bryiant Overton of Murfreesboro. They believe he is armed and dangerous.

If anyone knows where he is, they should call police.

Two apemen have been arrested after stealing flat screen televisions and assaulting an electronics store sales associate.

Officials said the two men – Donnell Humphrey (44) and Sherrod M. Burnett (40), walked out of a Circuit City on Cool Springs Boulevard in Franklin with six flat screen television sets.

Humphrey allegedly assaulted a sales associate as the two men left the store.

The two men were stopped by Brentwood police near Old Hickory Boulevard on Interstate 65.

The merchandise was valued at over $2,000.

Humphries and Burnett were booked into the Williamson County Jail on felony and misdemeanor theft charges.

Officials said Humphries was also charged for similar incidents that occurred in November at the same store.

A trucker and an alleged prostitute fought on a Nashville highway.

Rutherford County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the incident that started at a Nashville truck stop.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a tractor trailer accident early Wednesday morning.

But they discovered that it also involved a shooting, violence and sex.

“She began telling deputies she’s been attacked by the driver of tractor trailer,” said detective Sgt. Dan Goodwin.

A woman, police called a prostitute, said Otis Miles picked her up at a TravelCenters of America truck stop.

The woman said Miles tried to rape her, while he told investigators that he protected himself from her attack, Goodwin said.

The woman, whose name was not released, said Miles attacked her with a box cutter and tire iron. She then grabbed his gun from the cab of the truck and shot.

“The woman had multiple cuts on her body as well as a broken arm,” Goodwin said.

9 kids left home alone for nearly a week

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. – Collier County sheriff’s deputies discovered nine children, including an infant, left home alone in an Immokalee apartment for nearly a week after their parents left for Haiti over the holidays.

Reports give this account:

A woman contacted CCSO Thursday evening after she became concerned when one of the children came to school not dressed properly.

Deputies went to the apartment and spoke with a 14-year-old girl who answered the door. The girl told deputies that her parents went to Haiti and that her brother was taking care of her and her siblings. She said her brother was at work and did not know how to contact him.

A neighbor told deputies that the parents left on Dec. 14 and were to return on Dec. 27.

The apartment was filled with garbage, food and roaches, reports say. Four children were running around naked. In a back room, the infant was laying in a crib with crumbs and roaches crawling all over.

Deputies contacted the Department of Children and Families which decided to remove the children from the apartment.

The investigation continues.

Judge accused of questionable judgement in dismissing cases

It remains unclear whether a South Florida judge accused of crossing the line will face any disciplinary action.

Miami-Dade County Judge Karen Mills Francis reportedly told defendants to show up with a present for a child, and in exchange she would dismiss their cases.

The State Attorney’s Office says Francis asked defendants in various misdemeanor cases to bring in at least $30 in toys for charity in exchange for the dismissal of their cases.

Four certified legal interns with the State Attorney’s Office allegedly took part. Three were disciplined, the other was fired.

The attorney for one of the four suspects charged with killing Washington Redskins star Sean Taylor said Friday he is talking with prosecutors about a plea agreement that may include testifying against the others.

Michael Hornung, who represents Venjah Hunte, said his client has maintained throughout that he was not aware that anyone had a weapon when they arrived at Taylor’s Miami home or that violence would occur, and that he was not inside the home when Taylor was shot Nov. 26.

“He has said from the very beginning that he wants to accept responsibility for his limited role,” Hornung said. “He is willing to cooperate and to speak truthfully about that.”

The attorney’s comments came after a brief hearing for the four suspects, who have already filed written pleas of not guilty to charges of first-degree felony murder and armed burglarly. Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Dennis Murphy set an April 7 trial date, but indicated that might be delayed.

Murphy also expressed concern that too much investigative material was finding its way into the news media, saying he is considering issuing a gag order on the lawyers in order to ensure a fair trial.

“Hopefully it won’t get to that point,” Murphy told the attorneys. “Hopefully my point was made today.”

A hearing was set for Jan. 8 on a request by the lawyer for suspect Charles Wardlow to seal from the public statements made by the defendants to police. Normally most investigative material becomes public under Florida law once it is given to defense attorneys.

“There’s a tremendous amount of information that’s out there already,” said David Brener, who represents Wardlow. “It’s unfair.”

Murphy also denied Brener’s request that the four suspects be permitted to wear civilian clothes to court rather than bright red or burgundy jail jumpsuits.

The Miramar City Commissioner turned himself in to police after pulling out a gun at a grocery store last month.

The Broward State Attorney’s Office filed a charge of aggravated assault with a firearm against Fitzroy Salesman this morning. According to reports, Salesman got into an argument and pulled out and pointed a loaded pistol at an individual in a Winn-Dixie on November 26. Salesman’s attorney said he was defending himself from an aggressor.

The charge is a third-degree felony with a maximum of five years in prison and a minimum mandatory of three years in prison.

Two Sheriff’s Department Employees Arrested

Two employees at the Hinds County Sheriffs Department have been charged with embezzlement.

Teddy Adams and LaQuanda Williams, both 26 and both of Jackson, were arrested December 10. Authorities say the pair stole gasoline for their personal vehicles.

Sheriff Malcolm McMillin says investigators believe the two stole more than $5000 worth of gas, but authorities are still investigating to determine an exact amount and if anyone else was involved.

Teen Held in Furniture Robbery

HARKER HEIGHTS – An 18-year-old is being held in an alleged attempt of taking a table and chairs at knife point.

Summyia Nicole Wilson is being held in n Bell County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond following the incident which occured shortly after midnight on Saturday in the 200 Block of Dale Earnhardt Drive.

Harker Height Police Chief Mike Gentry says a couple living at that address heard noises coming from the porch. Upon investigating, they discovered a woman trying to take a table and chairs off the porch. When the couple attempted to stop her, Wilson is alleged to have threatened them with a knife. They were able to hold her until police arrived.

Two N.C. State athletes are in trouble with the law for allegedly breaking into cars.

Police arrested football player Cedric Hickman, 21, and wrestler Christopher Sutton on Monday night after a caller reported seeing people looking into vehicles on Seabrook Avenue in Cary.

Hickman is charged with five counts of breaking and entering motor vehicles, possession of stolen goods and resisting arrest. He is being held on $50,000 bond.

Sutton posted a $51,000 bond and was released.

An N.C. State spokesman says both players were suspended indefinitely and that football coach Tom O’Brien and wrestling coach Carter Jordan have no comment.

Exam delayed for ex-con accused of shooting girl, her mom – 7-year-old shot 6 times as she tried to protect her mother

A preliminary examination was postponed today in the case of a man accused of shooting a 7-year-old Detroit girl six times as she protected her mother.

Alexis Goggins has been hailed as a hero for suffering the wounds while coming to the defense of her mother, Selietha Parker.

Kelvin Tillie, a 29-year-old ex-con out on parole, was charged with several felonies, including assault with intent to commit murder. He is being held in the Wayne County Jail without bail.

His lawyer, Kim Basen Michon, asked for a competency evaluation today in 36th District Court.

A hearing is rescheduled for Feb. 14.

Still unable to speak, Alexis lost her right eye and slips in and out of consciousness. She is expected to live, but doctors won’t know about her quality of life until she undergoes more operations.

Thousands in Sudan Call for British Teddy Bear Teacher’s Execution

KHARTOUM, Sudan — Thousands of Sudanese, many armed with clubs and knives, rallied Friday in a central square and demanded the execution of a British teacher convicted of insulting Islam for allowing her students to name a teddy bear “Muhammad.”

The protesters streamed out of mosques after Friday sermons, as pickup trucks with loudspeakers blared messages against Gillian Gibbons, the teacher who was sentenced Thursday to 15 days in prison and deportation. She avoided the more serious punishment of 40 lashes.

They massed in central Martyrs Square outside the presidential palace, where hundreds of riot police were deployed. They did not try to stop the rally, which lasted about an hour.

“Shame, shame on the U.K.,” protesters chanted.

Calls by FOXNews.com to Sudan’s permanent mission to the United Nations were not returned Friday.

The protesters called for Gibbons’ execution, saying, “No tolerance: Execution,” and “Kill her, kill her by firing squad.”

The women’s prison where Gibbons is being held is far from the square.

Rapper ‘Birdman’ Arrested in Tenn.

KINGSPORT, Tenn. — Rapper Bryan “Birdman” Williams was among 16 people charged with possession of marijuana Tuesday after the RV they were riding in was pulled over by police for making an improper lane change.

Kingsport Police Cpl. Tim Horne said he stopped the vehicle after seeing it force a tractor trailer into the emergency lane on Interstate 81.

Horne said he could smell marijuana from inside the rented RV and located about a pound of marijuana in a trash can in the kitchenette after obtaining consent to search the vehicle.

Williams, 38, his wife Brittany, 18, and his brother, Ronald Williams, 43, were each charged with possession of more than 1/2 ounce of marijuana as were 13 others, several of whom are also affiliated with the rap industry and Cash Money Records, which was founded by Bryan and Ronald Williams.

Among those arrested were road manager Shahid Muhammad, 40, Cash Money Records promoter Casey Collins, 42, and music promoter Ovide Antoine, 32, of Miami, Fla.

All 16 remained jailed late Tuesday night. It was not known if any of them had an attorney.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is assisting in the investigation because an assault rifle, a handgun and a magazine for a .45-caliber handgun were found on the RV, Horne said. No weapons charges have been filed.

The group said they were traveling from New Orleans to New York for a BET network shoot, Horne said.

Hits featuring Birdman include “Stuntin’ Like My Daddy” and “Army Gunz.”

Akon is facing criminal charges after a fan said she suffered a concussion when the hip-hop star tossed a teenager off the stage and onto her in the concert crowd.

Akon, 34, is scheduled to appear in Fishkill Town Court on Monday morning for arraignment on a misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of a minor, and second-degree harassment, a violation, according to a news release Thursday from Police Chief Donald Williams.

Audience members said that a spectator lobbed something at Akon and that the singer asked the crowd to point out the culprit. A security guard picked out a 15-year-old and sent him up to the stage, where Akon hoisted him onto his shoulders and flung him into the crowd.

The boy landed on Abby Rosa, who told the Poughkeepsie Journal she was later found to have a concussion. She said she has hired a lawyer and spoken to Fishkill police.

The singer’s Manhattan lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, released a statement a few days after the June 3 concert at Dutchess Stadium saying there was no basis for criminal charges. A call to his office Thursday evening wasn’t immediately returned.

In April, Akon drew criticism for having on-stage simulated sex with a 14-year-old girl at a concert in Trinidad. He later apologized, saying he didn’t realize the girl was underage. Robber Gunned Down – Caught on Tape

Thieves Following Shoppers Home From Stores, Robbing Them

An in-law of the widow of a Queens dentist gunned down in Forest Hills was charged with his murder after detectives made a CSI-style fingerprint match, police said Tuesday.

Authorities say 50-year-old Mikhail Mallayev was taken into custody Saturday in front of his house in Chamblee, Georgia, after detectives matched his fingerprints to the homemade silencer believed to have been used in the October 28 murder.

He reportedly offered no resistance.

Mallayev was charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

He is being held in Georgia pending extradition.

NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly described Mallayev as an in-law of the Mazoltuv Borakhova, widow of Dr. Daniel Malakov, killed while taking his 5-year-old daughter Michelle to see her.

The couple had been embroiled in a bitter custody dispute.

The suspect is reportedly related by marriage to Malakov’s widow.

“There is a relationship, in laws, we believe,” Kelly said.

Authorities say Mallayev’s prints, from the homemade silencer found at the crime scene, were matched to prints from his December 29, 1994, arrest for fare evasion in the subway system.

A second set of prints were matched Saturday, and he was placed under arrest by NYPD detectives and officials from De Kalb County.

Mallayev, a native of Uzbekistan, has lived in United States for past 19 years.

Kelly would not discuss the motive for the murder.

“We are not going to go into the details at this time,” he said. “An arrest has been made, an extradition hearing will be held today in Georgia.”

The police commissioner praised the CSI-style detective work that led to the arrest.

“I want to commend the latent print detectives,” he said. “They had to use special procedures, darken the prints, because of the nature of the prints taken in 1994, manual procedures had to be used.”

On November 5, Malakov’s ex-wife testified in Queens Family Court that he had abused her; a divorce lawyer who represented the shooting victim said it wasn’t true.

The death shocked Malakov’s close-knit community of Bukharan Jews from the former Soviet republic of Uzbekistan.

The victim’s family has insisted all along that Borakhova or members of her family were somehow responsible for the murder. It is an allegation that Borakhova, for the record, has repeatedly denied.

The arrest is a major development, but the Malakov’s have so many unanswered questions.

MOREHEAD CITY – Two brothers who own a Morehead City business were arrested Monday night following an alleged assault against a customer they wrongfully claimed was trying to steal from them, police said.

Maysara Alqazah, 27, and Yaser Alqazah, 25, who reside in Atlantic Beach, were arrested by Morehead City Police Department and charged with second-degree kidnapping, common law robbery, assault inflicting serious injury and assault on a female, said Capt. Garland Terry.

The men are accused of assaulting Morehead City resident Nathaniel Willis, 18, who was a customer in their business, the 98 Cents Only Discount Store on Arendell Street, police said.

Willis reportedly went to the store counter to purchase cigars, at which time the elder Alqazah brother, who was the clerk at the counter, accused him of trying to steal a hat, Terry said.

According to police information, the hat was visible, but Willis, who had a cast on one arm, was holding it in his coat. Willis held up a $20 bill to show that he intended to pay, but the clerk grabbed him and called for his brother, Terry said.

The brothers allegedly started assaulting Willis and attempted to pull him to the back of the store, he said.

At one point they locked the front doors of the store and assaulted Willis on his arms, back and upper torso using a piece of wood, Terry said. Willis was treated for his injuries at Carteret General Hospital and then released.

The assault on a female charge stems from actions allegedly taken against Willis’ girlfriend, who heard a commotion and went inside to see what was happening.

She was hit by a door when one of the brothers opened it and yelled at her to get out of the store, Terry said.

After assaulting Willis, the brothers took his $20 and let him go, at which time he and his girlfriend called police, he said.

Maysara and Yaser Alqazah were each placed in the Carteret County Jail under a $30,000 bond.

The defense wrapped up its case Tuesday in the trial of seven men charged with plotting to destroy Chicago’s Sears Tower and bomb FBI offices in Miami and other cities.

U.S. District Court Judge Joan Lenard ordered the jury to return next Tuesday to hear a brief rebuttal case from federal prosecutors. Closing arguments could begin the following day.

During the trial, which has lasted nearly two months, only one of the defendants took the stand.

Narseal Batiste, the alleged leader of the so-called “Liberty City Seven,” testified that he invented a fake plot to destroy Chicago’s Sears Tower in order to con money out of a man who claimed to be an al-Qaida operative. Batiste had dozens of meetings with the man, who was actually a paid FBI informant.

During an FBI audiotape played for jurors, Batiste alone takes the oath of allegience to al-Qaida from the informant and then makes plans to meet him again with the entire group at a new warehouse. Batiste was told the building was being provided by al-Qaida but it was actually had been fitted by the FBI with hidden surveillance cameras.

A few days later, on March 16, 2006, the other six defendants were recorded taking the oath.

Prosecutors say the seven men plotted to topple the 110-story Sears Tower and bomb FBI offices in five cities in hopes of starting a broader anti-U.S. insurrection, although their plans never got very far.

The men face up to 70 years in prison if convicted of four terror-related conspiracy counts.

Metro Police have three Atlanta ape-men in custody after breaking up a large counterfeit ticket scheme outside the RCA Dome.

Police say a routine traffic stop netted several hundred counterfeit tickets, most of them for Sunday’s Colts game against the Patriots. They believe there could be 20 more suspects involved.

Police now have stacks upon stacks of tickets, tickets for some of the best seats in the RCA dome. They’re all sitting on a table unused. The very tickets many would have paid dearly to get there hands on.

“Most of these tickets were going for anywhere from $150 to $275 each,” said IMPD Lt. Jeff Duhamell. “When they were arrested, we had approximately 190 Colts-Patriots that appear to be counterfeit.”

The tickets look real, but police say technology makes counterfeiting tickets fairly simple, and a very serious crime. One of the suspects, Eric North, claims to only selling genuine tickets.

“I didn’t sell one,” he said. “Not one. I was going to my girlfriend’s house.”

Though police found the tickets in North’s car, he says he has no idea they were there.

“A guy named Pete, it was his bag. It wasn’t even my bag, I was just the driver,” he said. “I didn’t know what was in the bag, no sir.”

North and the other suspects are accused by police of ripping off 30-40 people of a couple hundred bucks.

“We believe they are part of a ring that is originated out of Atlanta, Georgia,” Lt. Duhamell said. “Those individuals that come in here with counterfeit tickets, they don’t get a seat and they are out.”

Police say the suspects had tickets to several college football games and at least one other Colts game. They caution others who may buy tickets on the street, saying the safest way to buy tickets other than from the ticket booth is a broker, so if the tickets are fake, you have someone to go back to.

Former heavyweight champ Mike Tyson sentenced to 1 day in jail, probation

Mike Tyson was sentenced Monday to 24 hours in jail and three years’ probation for drug possession and driving under the influence.

The former heavyweight champion had pleaded guilty in September to a single felony count of cocaine possession and a misdemeanor DUI count.

Tyson faced a maximum of four years and three months in prison.

The charges stemmed from a traffic stop in Scottsdale last December.

Police pulled Tyson over after the boxer had spent the evening at Scottsdale’s Pussycat Lounge. An officer said he saw Tyson wiping a white substance off the dashboard of his black BMW, and that his speech was slurred.

Authorities said they found bags of cocaine in Tyson’s pocket and in his car.

Police say woman stabbed two people at Taco Bell

Police have arrested a woman they say stabbed two people at a Taco Bell in the city’s south end Sunday night.

Shaunee Tubbs turned herself in Monday afternoon. Shively Police say she got into an argument that turned violent, and that she attacked two people at the restaurant on Dixie Highway and Gagel Avenue.

Police say it was a domestic dispute.

Twenty years after her allegations of a racially charged rape became a national flash point, Tawana Brawley’s mother and stepfather want to reopen the case, a newspaper reported Sunday.

The Rev. Al Sharpton was an advocate for Brawley in the racially charged case that drew national attention.

Glenda Brawley and Ralph King want to press New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer and state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo to re-examine the November 1987 incident, which a state grand jury ultimately concluded was a hoax, the Daily News reported.

“New York state owes my daughter. They owe her the truth,” said Glenda Brawley. She reiterated her stance that her daughter was indeed raped by a group of white men who smeared her with feces and scrawled racial epithets on her body.

Representatives for Spitzer and Cuomo did not immediately respond to telephone and e-mail messages.

Brawley was 15 when she went missing for four days from her home in Wappingers Falls, about 75 miles north of New York. After being found, she made the shocking allegation that she had been abducted and raped by six white law enforcement officials.

The case quickly made headlines and drew the attention of the Rev. Al Sharpton, who became an outspoken advocate for the teen.

But a special state grand jury found evidence Brawley had fabricated her story. A former Dutchess County prosecutor who had been implicated in the case later sued Brawley, Sharpton and other Brawley advisers for defamation, winning a $345,000 judgment against the advisers and a $185,000 judgment against Brawley.

A spokeswoman for Sharpton, who was held liable for $65,000 in the case, did not immediately respond to an e-mail message early Sunday. The former prosecutor’s attorney did not immediately return a telephone message.

Car plunges into pond, 2 men drown

Bradenton, Florida – The Manatee County Department of Public Safety is citing its safety policy as the reason paramedics didn’t dive into a Bradenton pond to save two men after their car crashed into it.

Late Wednesday night, a 2007 Hyundai crashed through two fences at the back of Southeast High School and landed in a pond.

Inside were two men, a woman and a 17-year-old girl. Shaquna Rivera and 24-year-old Britnany Axon got out and left the scene before emergency crews arrived.

Neighbors say 25-year-old Johnnie Schoolfield and 22-year-old Theodore Thomas were flailing in the water and begging for help.

Both firefighters and paramedics were dispatched immediately after neighbors called 911.

The ambulance arrived two minutes later. But paramedics had to watch the two men struggle in the water as they waited for firefighters.

“You could have at least tried to jump in and tried to save them. Instead of, ‘I don’t want any of my guys in jeopardy to sink in with him,’” said neighbor Danny Gutierrez. Other neighbors echoed his concerns.

Capt. Larry Leinhauser of the Manatee County Department of Public Safety said paramedics are not trained for water rescues, and there were no lifejackets in the ambulance.

“As much as we save lives on a daily basis, there are things that are out of our scope of practice. And we’re not going to adlib to try to save them. As much as we want to, we’re jeopardizing ourselves and other people by trying to do so,” Leinhauser explained.

He added that a ten-year-old child is capable of drowning an adult trying to save them.

Firefighters with Southern Manatee Fire Rescue arrived four minutes later. But by then, the rescue had become a recovery effort.

“It wasn’t as if firefighters were watching anybody drown,” said Chief Thomas Hennessy. “Our personnel arrived within four minutes of the call.”

Hennessy said the fire truck had to park about 100 feet away from the pond, and firefighters put on their gear as they hurried to the water.

Rivera and Axon have since been interviewed about the crash. FHP investigators say the four had just left a Circle K around the corner on 9th Street East. Investigators are awaiting autopsy results to determine whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.

‘By The Book,’ Paramedics Watched Man Thrash, Drown

Less than an hour before midnight, Schoolfield and Thomas veered off 30th Avenue East onto a dead-end street near Southeast High School. Their vehicle slammed through two metal fences and sank into a pond.

Authorities say Schoolfield, 25, known as “Chubby” in the community for his round face, was dead when paramedics and firefighters arrived at the retention pond in the 3300 block of 11th Street Court East. But Thomas, 22, was in the water thrashing and calling for help, witnesses told investigators.

The paramedics, who pulled up to the crash first, did not go in the water. Within about four minutes of the 911 call, two firefighters arrived, threw on life jackets and dived into the pond. They had seen a man go under but were unable to find him.

Family members of the victims are searching for answers about the events that led up to the crash and double fatality. Speculation is rampant. Was another vehicle chasing the car? Were the men playing a game of chance?

Authorities are interviewing two passengers, Britany Axon, 24, and Shaquna Rivera, 17, who swam from the vehicle and walked away after the crash.

For Thomas’ family, there is unflinching criticism of the paramedics for not diving in to save a man struggling to survive.

“Nobody helped him, and that makes me angry,” said a sister, Keishanna Thomas, 23. “I feel they watched him die. He didn’t get a second chance to see life.”

Wednesday night family members of 22-year-old Theodore “Theo” Thomas and 25-year-old Johnnie “Chubby” Schoolfield gathered for a question and answer session with Manatee County emergency workers. Thomas and Schoolfield drowned on October 31st when their SUV crashed through two fences and landed in a pond at 11th Street Court East late at night. Neighbors at the scene were visibly shaken and said paramedics did little to save their lives.

Danny Gutierrez, a witness who lives in the area, says “Nobody jumped in. Nobody jumped in. In the fire department, ambulance, all of them were right here. You could have given this guy another chance and nobody jumped in.”

But Wednesday night the head of Manatee County Emergency Services, Chief Mark Edenfield, as well as other public safety workers spoke candidly about the reason why paramedics did not jump in to save the pair.

Captain Larry Leinhauser says “Our EMS is emergency medical service. Fire rescue is fire rescue. In this county they’re 2 separate entities. EMS doesn’t possess the skills to do water rescues. We are capable of going in the water to get someone who is sick or injured but not someone who is flailing for life.”

Drowning vigil ends in violence

A candlelight vigil to commemorate the lives of two men killed in a watery crash Halloween night dissolved into chaos Thursday when a fight broke out between the men’s relatives and the two women who fled the deadly scene as help arrived.

After friends and family members of Theodore Thomas, 22, and Johnnie Schoolfield, 25, spent a peaceful 30 minutes reflecting on their memories of the Bradenton men, the atmosphere turned ugly with the arrival of 24-year-old Brittnany Axon and 17-year-old Shaquna Rivera.

Axon and Rivera are the two women who fled the retention pond behind Southeast High School after the sport utility vehicle in which the four were riding broke through two chain-link fences and plunged into 15 feet of water.

The two women’s appearance at Thursday’s vigil turned out to be unwelcome.

Two of Thomas’ sisters were soon engulfed in a fight with the women, surrounded by a crowd that zig-zagged from yard to yard, making its way down 11th Street Court East.

Essie Craig, Thomas’ aunt, chased after the squabble, praying for it to end.

“Let law enforcement take care of it,” she said after the fight. “If you go to jail, how are you going to go to your brother’s funeral?”

One girl nearly lost her shirt and friends looked through yards looking for belongings dropped during the scuffle.

“It wasn’t supposed to happen, but this was just disrespectful,” said Keishanna Thomas, 23, Thomas’ oldest sister.

Order was restored by 15 Manatee County Sheriff’s deputies – called by an off-duty deputy who was present throughout the vigil. There were no apparent injuries – and no arrests because of the number of people involved in an incident that largely ended when patrol cars arrived.

“It was an absolute affray. We couldn’t charge anyone with anything,” said Manatee County Sheriff’s Lt. Barry Overstreet.

Still, Bradenton Police were sent to Axon and Rivera’s neighboring apartments to make sure nothing developed after they left the vigil. The precaution might have paid off, police said; some cars showed up at the complex after the vigil, only to turn around and leave when they saw the officers.

Family: Wreck victims were drinking

Family members of two men who drowned after their vehicle slammed into a pond behind Southeast High School, said the pair were seen drinking before the accident.

A Florida Highway Patrol report said Johnnie Schoolfield, 25, and Theodore Devon Thomas, 22, died after the 2007 Hyundai sport utility vehicle they were riding in plowed through two fences and into the pond.

The pond is on Southeast High School property, at the dead end of 11th Street Court East.

About 4:15 p.m. today, Florida Highway Patrol identified two women in the vehicle with Schoolfield and Thomas, as Britnany Axon, 24, and Shaquna Rivera, 17. They live in neighboring apartment units in the 300 block of 26th Avenue West.

A cousin of Schoolfield said the pair had been drinking Wednesday night.

“They were drunk,” said cousin Michale Anderson.

Parks said investigators suspect alcohol played a part in the accident, but that had not been confirmed.

“The nature of what happened suggests that alcohol or drugs, or some other distraction, caused the accident,” Parks said.

At 11:15 p.m., the SUV careened into the pond. When emergency personnel arrived, Schoolfield was floating in the water, apparently drowned, Parks said.

Thomas got out the SUV and began flailing in the water, before also drowning, Parks said. It was still unknown who was driving the SUV.

A witness said she heard Thomas screaming for help.

“He was bobbing in and out of water, and hollering for help,” said Alloyn Anderson, a few houses down from where the accident occurred. “It was terrible.”

Authorities and family members say alcohol may have been a factor, but other witnesses said speed played a part, too.

“The driver had the vehicle wide open,” said Scott Owens. “I could hear the engine revving from inside my house.”

Robert White also lives on the street, and said he saw the vehicle “tearing down the road with no lights on.”

White said he saw the two women walking from the accident, just before Thomas started crying for help.

“They were wringing wet,” White said.

Darryl Thompson, 20, is being charged with criminal homicide.

Police say Thompson admits to taking part in the effort to rob Jarrod “Bo” Collins.

Authorities are also on the trail of a man named Reginald Adkins.

They believe he is the gunman who fatally shot Collins, 31, in the back.

Swat officers and the gang unit are on the streets looking for Adkins.

Evidence showed up late Thursday, which led to the identification of the two male suspects.

Brandy Lea Birdwell, 25, was charged with criminal homicide on Thursday.

She admitted to driving the two men to the store in her pickup truck and then driving them away from the scene after the shooting.

I’d estimate at that time, Chrysler topped 40-45% nigger employment. And out of that percentage of niggers, at least half would be collecting 90% of their salaries while laid back in the ghetto on sick leave. It didn’t come as a shock to me at all when the “Big 3” US carmakers begged the unions to help them lower their insurance coverage. Which for the most part, the unions refused and wouldn’t budge. What you have is greed-filled, lazy, crazy, third world nigger savages trying to get as much as they possibly can from the first rate, top technology BIG 3 auto manufacturers and sooner or later, something had to break. With the slowing of the economy, something finally did break. After watching their profits plunge and after spending two, three, four thousand dollars per vehicle in insurance for niggers to lay-up with back injuries, the Big 3 started laying the nigs off and shipping the jobs to India. I hated to see it but at the same time, the Big 3 in essence, was just telling the niggers to F off and to find another titty to suck.

But it’s not just health insurance that hurts the Big 3. A person would be shocked to understand the injuries in an auto assemble plant. With niggers on the loose in ever crevice of the plant, stoned, drunk and/or just stupid, running people down in the isles with fork lifts, stacking stock to where it falls because it wasn’t balanced correctly or was stacked too high. Nigger drunken, drug induced brawls in the parking lot at lunch time that resulted in ambulances and police being called with niggers being arrested, sent to the hospital or too high to return to work. The police go in to find them and haul one out in handcuffs and the other on a stretcher. Police have arrested a teenager they say is responsible for killing another teenager.

JaMorris Brandon Walker, 18, was arrested Tuesday for the murder of 18-year-old Zeric Harrison. Harrison was killed last weekend.

Walker was taken to Orlando police headquarters and being charged with first-degree murder.

Orlando police arrested a man who was spotted trying to steal from a city fire station early Wednesday.

A witness spotted a man inside the building on South Westmoreland Avenue at about 2 a.m. A police officer later found Larry G. Shingles, who matched the suspect’s description, in the area.

The officer had to chase Shingles down on foot to arrest him. He was taken to Orange County Jail, under charges of burglary and resisting arrest without violence.

I guess you thought he’d be a volunteer fireman heh? LOL – Yea right. When have you EVER seen a nigger volunteer for anything? Man Arrested after Setting Fire to Apartments

Early Saturday morning, Charlotte Fire Department responded to an apartment complex on West 26th Street after two fires were intentionally set. No residents were hurt in the fire.

Police arrested James Otis Gladden at the scene of the fire and charged him with fire degree arson, malicious use of explosive damage property and misuse of the 911 system.

His bail was set at $55,000.

A transient who robbed another man after asking him for a cigarette was arrested in front of the Central Florida Coalition for the Homeless shelter early Wednesday.

Orlando police said that Weston Jackson asked a 46-year-old man for the smoke in the 900 block of West Central Boulevard, but then snatched money from his hand and fled.

Police later found Jackson, 42, in front of the homeless shelter.

Jackson was taken to Orange County Jail, under one charge of robbery.

Orlando police, dispatched to a burglary at an occupied home, caught the thief walking down the street carrying his haul Tuesday night.

Officers were on their way to the reported crime at 621 W. South St. when they spotted a man toting a TV near Terry and Anderson streets.

Police arrested 50-year-old Johnny Howard on the spot.

He remained in Orange County Jail on Wednesday, on a charge of attempted burglary.

Former CMPD Officer LeShunda Austin was arrested again yesterday and faces three additional charges related to her filing a false police report earlier this month.

The additional charges include; filing a false police report, obstruction of justice and accessing a government computer in an attempt to defraud.

A Fort Pierce mother is one of two women accused of leaving her children in their car as they were shoplifting Monday.

Kasey Ozell Cooper, 20, of the 3200 block of Jersey Court, and Angelique M. McQuire, 19, of the 11100 block of Southwest 196th Street, remained Tuesday in the Indian River County Jail — each on three counts of child neglect and one count of retail theft, records show.

Cooper’s bail is set at $25,000 while McQuire’s is $1,000 so far.

Sheriff’s Deputy Sean Harnage, who arrested the women, said he was called about 7:40 p.m. Monday to Bealls, in the 5900 block of State Road 60. Store officials said they had just caught the two women, along with a teenager — who later was turned over to her legal guardians — after they took shirts, sweatshirts and sweatpants out of the store without paying.

After store security officials took the women back inside, reports show, Cooper said she needed to get her children. Store officials went out to a 2002 Dodge Neon and retrieved Cooper’s three children — ages 5 months, 3 years and 4 years old. Harnage said the children were left unattended for about 20 minutes.

McQuire told deputies she was watching the children for Cooper, but decided to come in the store.

Cooper said she left the children in the car because she “was just going inside the store,” Harnage wrote.

After Harnage arrived, he wrote, an aunt of Cooper’s was called to take the children.

When the aunt arrived, he said, “She advised me that Kasey was already dealing with the (state Department of Children and Families) in regards to her children and she had just had them returned to her.”

DCF officials couldn’t be reached for comment Tuesday.

While the adults waited for the aunt, Harnage added, the youngsters were “running wild” in the store office, including climbing on furniture and drawing on walls with a black pen.

He said he asked Cooper several times to watch the children, but said she responded with ethnic slurs against him and laughed with the other woman and on a cell phone about being arrested on “stupid” charges.
