A Palm Coast man who went to a home to collect a debt Saturday afternoon was instead met by an armed man who forced him into a car and demanded cash, according to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.

The 21-year-old victim told deputies that he pulled into the driveway of the home on Pony Lane just after 5 p.m. when Brandon Washington, 20, forced the victim into a car.

Deputies said that vehicle was driven by Meghan Smith, 22, and Manuel Cabral Jr., 22, was a passenger.

Washington, who was reported to be carrying a gun in his waistband, directed Smith to drive the victim to a home on Pope Lane where the victim said he could get cash.

Once at the home, the victim was allowed out of the car. Rather than retreiving money and returning, he called 911 to report the crime.

When the victim failed to come back out, Smith and Cabral left the scene, but were stopped by a Flagler County deputies at the intersection of Pheasant and Phoenix Lanes in Palm Coast.

Both were charged with false imprisonment and were being held at the Flagler County Inmate Facility without bond Sunday morning. The victim’s car was recovered at the Pony Lane home.

Washington remained at large Sunday morning.

Flagler County Sheriff Donald Fleming said four women, all acquainted with Washington (and all White?), were arrested earlier Saturday after a robbery of a restaurant in the Old Kings Commons Shopping area in Palm Coast.

Washington is 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighs 160 pounds, with short black hair and a goatee.

Prosecutors filed charges against two St. Louis men in the death of an Assistant St. Louis County Counselor.

Cleophus King, 40, and Ronald Johnson, 20 were charged with first-degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action and robbery.

According to court documents, Luke Meiners, 38, was stabbed to death and strangled sometime between March 7 and March 8. His wallet and keys were taken.

Meiners was killed in King’s house in the 5700 block of Waterman in St. Louis, according to police.

On Wednesday, police said Meiners entered King’s house voluntarily before the robbery, but did not elaborate as to how he knew the two suspects.

Detectives found his body in a wooded-area in Venice, Illinois overnight Tuesday.

NewsChannel 5 was outside the residence in the 5700 block of Waterman Tuesday afternoon when police took a man into custody.

Police said the second suspect was arrested later Tuesday afternoon.

Meiners had worked as a lawyer in the County Government Building for the last seven years.

King does have a felony record. He pled guilty to second degree murder back in 1987.

There was another murder in that same house in 1993, but police said they don’t know of any relationship between King and the convicted murderer in that case.

Police have released a picture of a person they believe was involved in an outdoor shooting that left a man with a gunshot wound Tuesday on the city’s east side.

Authorities say they’re looking for the pictured male, saying he and perhaps others were involved in a barrage of gunfire during which Matthew Pittman, 23, was wounded.

A witness told police about 18 to 20 shots were fired at about 5:15 p.m. Tuesday in the 2900 block of East 18th Street. It wasn’t clear how many people were involved.

Police went to the scene but didn’t find anyone shot. About 10 minutes later, police learned that Pittman was at Methodist Hospital, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Pittman told police he was driving a van on 18th Street when someone shot him. Police said the van is damaged but that the damage isn’t consistent with Pittman’s account of how he was shot.

Police obtained a picture of a male holding a rifle, and a witness told police that the picture was taken shortly before the shooting began. Police didn’t say who took that picture.

Authorities said the pictured weapon is a .223-caliber semiautomatic rifle, which fires bullets. Police said Pittman was wounded not by a bullet, but by shotgun ammunition.

Police said they found several .223-caliber shell casings at the shooting scene. At least one other vehicle was damaged by a stray bullet, police said.

Officials asked anyone with information about the person in the picture or the shooting to call them at 317-327-3733.

Authorities have charged two suspects with first-degree murder in the death of the student body president of the University of North Carolina.

Court documents filed Wednesday name the first defendant as 21-year-old Demario James Atwater, of Durham.

The second suspect, 17-year-old Lawrence Alvin Lovett Jr., is believed to be involved in a standoff with police in Durham, N.C. He is also charged with first-degree murder in the death of Eve Carson.

Chapel Hill police said they believe Lovett to be the driver pictured in ATM surveillance photographs made public Saturday.

Police described Lovett as about 5 feet 7 inches tall and 150 pounds. Police also warned that Lovett could be armed and dangerous.

Atwater made a first court appearance on Wednesday. He appeared shackled at the ankles and waist in an Orange County courtroom with a public defender at his side. Atwater whispered “yes” when asked if he understood the charges.

He’s been ordered held without bond.

Chapel Hill Police Chief Brian Curran declined to say which of the suspects shot and killed Carson, a 22-year-old from Athens, Ga., found last Wednesday lying on a street about a mile from campus.

The biology and political science major had been shot several times, including once in the right temple.

Police arrested a 22-year-old woman in the stabbing death of a Hallandale Beach man, according to the agency and court documents.

Police found Nino Lah, 47, dead inside a home in the 400 block of Poinciana Drive in the Golden Isles community early Friday, court records released Monday show. Tashah Smithe, whom a Broward Sheriff’s Officer sergeant pulled over in Lah’s truck, led authorities to Lah, according to the records.

Police did not say what Smithe’s motive was, nor did they detail detailed the circumstances that might have led to the fatal stabbing.

Some residents of Golden Isles, a secluded community of homes on the water, said the lack of information left them nervous.

“It’s sad and scary,” said Lah’s neighbor Rachel Alters. “Whoever did that should not be out roaming the streets.”

Police later said Smithe had been arrested. She is being held in Broward County North Jail without bond, on unpremeditated murder and various traffic offenses.

Here’s what court documents and police said happened:

About 1:45 a.m. Friday, Sheriff’s Office Sergeant R. Cornine pulled over a woman driving a white 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer recklessly along West Hallandale Beach Boulevard. When the officer looked inside, he saw a towel soaked in blood. Cornine removed the woman, saw that her were pants were also covered in blood and that there was a knife inside the vehicle.

Cornine found a driver’s license bearing Lah’s name and address in the 500 block of Palm Drive, also in Golden Isles, and called in Hallandale Beach police. Officers with that agency went to the house and found no one there, but they also learned about Lah’s other home nearby on Poinciana Drive, according to the records. They headed there.

When they arrived, they found the garage door open and blood smeared on the inside of the garage door, according to the report. At the front door of the house, Lah lay slumped, dead from stab wounds.

Police arrested a 22-year-old woman with murder on Monday after pulling her over for driving recklessly.

Tashah Smithe was charged with second-degree murder in the death of a Hallandale Beach man.

According to Hallandale Beach police, Smithe was driving Nino Lah’s vehicle.

Officers were dispatched to Lah’s residence at 418 Poinciana Drive, where they found the 47-year-old stabbed to death.

According to police, Smithe also had many of Lah’s personal items.

Police said they aren’t sure of a motive for the stabbing.

Three students from Montclair High School were charged on Tuesday with sexually assaulting a 16-year-old special education student at one of their homes last week, prosecutors and the police in the suburban New Jersey community said.

A law enforcement official said the three male suspects — an 18-year-old and two 16-year-olds — forced the girl to perform sex on them and abused her with a broomstick on Thursday afternoon.

“This is a horrible act,” Montclair Police Chief David P. Sabagh said at a news conference. “This is a sad day for Montclair.”

Two of the suspects, Romal Roberts, 18, and one of the 16-year-olds, were arrested on Saturday. The third suspect surrendered to the police on Tuesday, the authorities said. The three were charged with multiple counts of aggravated sexual assault.

The Essex County prosecutor, Paula T. Dow, did not say why the victim was in special education classes, but did say that some of the charges had to do with the victim’s “diminished capacity.”

Residents of Montclair, a middle-class town of about 40,000 that prides itself on its schools and its history of racial integration, were stunned by the events and its jarring similarity to others in recent years.

Charges Filed in Murphysboro Cold Case

Police have made an arrest in the murder of a Murphysboro woman 16 years ago. Now family members of the victim are speaking out.

It’s been more than a decade since 22 year-old Cindy Pavey was found murdered.

37 year-old Quincy Hughes of Murphysboro has been charged in the killing and faces four counts of first degree murder.

It was on the morning of December second, 1991 that police found Cindy Pavey dead inside her Murphysboro home.

Forensic evidence was taken from the scene, and because of recent advances in technology, officials were able to use that evidence 16 years later to link Quincy Hughes to this crime.

“She didn’t deserve this. She didn’t deserve this at all” says Pavey’s mother Marlene Eckert.

Eckert says years of not knowing who killed her daughter has taken a toll.

“There’s always a hole in your heart.”

Cindy Pavey was beaten to death inside her home on Shomaker Drive in Murphysboro. Police say there were no signs of forced entry into the house.

Pavey’s two children– ages two and four — were at the home when police arrived. It’s unclear if they witnessed the crime.

“They were so young and I’ve just reminded them that their mom loved them” says Eckert.

Over time, the case grew cold, until 3 years ago. That’s when investigators re-submitted forensic evidence taken from the crime scene.

“In November of 2007, Murphysboro police were notified of a DNA profile match to a Quincy Demell Hughes of Murphysboro” says Jackson County State’s Attorney Mike Wepsiec.

Officials say Hughes– who was 20 at the time of the crime– was not an original suspect, but they believe he knew the victim.

“Their paths had crossed previously” says Wepsiec.

Hughes has now been accused of hitting Cindy Pavey in the head with an intent to kill. Officials also allege he beat Pavey while sexually assaulting her.

If convicted, Quincy Hughes could face 20 years to natural life in prison.

For family members of Cindy Pavey, they are hopeful this could finally be the closure they were looking for.

“I want to believe that they finally got the person” says Eckert.

Hughes is being held at the Jackson County jail on a million dollars bond. His preliminary hearing is set for March 14th at 8:30 in the morning.

Jackson County court records show Hughes is a convicted felon with a lengthy criminal record. In the past, he’s served time for home invasion, aggravated battery, and theft.

Two “career criminals” arrested last month in connection with an 18-year-old murder case have been indicted on charges that carry a maximum penalty of death.

After an all-day hearing Tuesday, a grand jury indicted Omar Cortez Johnson, 35, a Georgia prison inmate, and Darryl Lamont Cheatham, 33, of Durham, NC, for first-degree felony murder, kidnapping with a firearm, and burglary of a conveyance with an assault while armed. The charges were filed in connection with the Nov. 25, 1991 carjacking and shooting death of Allen Dale Matzek, 34.

Motorists found the Jacksonville resident’s body on the side of Interstate 95 near the Martin County rest stop and detectives were able to connect him to a blood-splattered rental car abandoned in Fort Pierce, but the case remained without significant leads for almost two decades.

At a news conference in February, members of the Martin County Sheriff’s cold case unit announced the arrests of Johnson and Cheatham, and said they connected the two “career criminals” to Matzek’s death after receiving a letter in 2006 detailing the murder from a former cellmate of one of the men.

According to investigators, Johnson borrowed $5,000 from a South Carolina drug dealer to buy drugs in Miami, but the dealers beat him up and stole the money. Johnson then had Cheatham and four other men drive to Florida City to get the money back, but they gave up after exchanging gunfire at a restaurant. Johnson’s group came across Matzek asleep in a rented Cadillac at the Martin County rest stop and decided they would rob him of the car to pay back the South Carolina drug dealer.

Johnson shot Matzek in the back of the head and the men dumped the body and the rental car, according to investigators.

Assistant State Attorneys Vicki Nichols and Bernie Romero are now prosecuting Johnson and Cheatham and said they could decide to pursue the death penalty, though Cheatham was 17 at the time of the murder. After Tuesday’s hearing, they said the other men suspected in the case have not been charged and are regarded as witnesses.

Two of the charges Johnson and Cheatham faced — grand theft and robbery — could not be pursued because the statute of limitations to prosecute them for those crimes passed years ago, Nichols and Romero said.

The grand jury also could not indict the men on carjacking because it was not codified as a crime back when the Matzek murder occurred, the prosecutors said.

MSU Student Found Dead

A Mississippi State student is dead and his roommate is charged with Capital Murder.
Oktibbeha County Sheriff Dolph Bryan says the body of Andreas Galanis, 28, was found about 6 p.m. Friday afternoon at Twenty One Apartments. The Biloxi native was found in a suite in the apartment when an officer went to check on Galanis to see if he was okay after family members said he missed a flight. Deputies discovered a large amount of blood after Galanis’ roommate let them inside the apartment. The man charged with Galanis death is Bobby Batiste, 28, of Preston. He is also a student at MSU. Bryan says the incident appears to have happened during a robbery. Batiste remains in the Oktibbeha County Jail without bond. Capital Murder is punishable by death or life without parole. Bryan says that no other suspects are wanted at this time, but if you have any information please contact the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department.

A DNA hit has led to an arrest for a crime that happened fifteen years ago.

Benjamin Ramirez-Segovia, 43, was arrested this week at a restaurant in Prince George’s County for the 1993 rape of a 9-year-old girl.

Ramirez-Segovia is now in an Arlington jail facing charges and the community where the crime occurred is finally expressing relief.

The now 24-year-old victim never thought Ramirez-Segovia would be caught and told police she is pleased with the news that DNA lead to the arrest of Ramirez-Segovia.

On November 10, 1993, the nine-year-old girl was walking home from school in the 2800 block of South Glebe Road when she was confronted by a man. The suspect grabbed the victim, forced her underneath a bridge adjacent to Four Mile Run, and sexually assaulted her. The girl ran home and reported the attack to her mother, who called police.

The young girl gave police an incredibly detailed description of the man who assaulted her, down to his broken teeth, but no arrest was made, until now.

On January 31, 2008, the evidence in this case was re-submitted to the Northern Virginia Forensic Laboratory for DNA analysis. In late February, the Special Victim’s Unit was notified that the evidence had yielded a hit in the national DNA database.

SVU detectives obtained a warrant for Benjamin Ramirez-Segovia. They arrested him on March 2 at his place of employment in Prince George County, Virginia, with the assistance of Prince George County Police and the Dinwiddie County Sheriff’s Department.

At the time of the attack 15 years ago, he resided in Arlington. Ramirez-Segovia is charged with abduction with intent to defile. He is being held without bond in the Arlington County Detention Facility and additional charges are pending.

New Delhi: The Goa police have arrested one man in connection with the murder of 15-year old British teenager Scarlette Keeling.

The accused, a bar tender at the Anjuna beach where Scarlett’s body was found last month, was among the three people detained by the police for questioning. He has been charged with rape. However, the two others have been let off after interrogation.

“It is a definite case of murder. The same person we charged for rape can be charged for murder. He was the last person seen in a compromising position with the girl and the police has got enough evidence to book this man,” says IGP, Goa, Kishan Kumar.

He adds that as the investigations proceed, more arrests are possible.

The arrest on Sunday came a day after Scarlett’s second autopsy suggested she could have been murdered. The second autopsy was done after Scarlett’s mother Fiona MacKeown accused the Goa police of a cover-up. For her, this is just the beginning of a battle for justice.

Suspect in Comfort Inn killing pleads not guilty, faces trial as prior offender

COLUMBIA — The man charged with a murder, rape and robbery in November at two Columbia hotels pleaded not guilty to 11 felony charges Monday.

Dwight T. Hayes, 21, formerly of 1812 McKee St., will face a trial as a prior and persistent felony offender, according to a motion granted by Boone County Circuit Judge Gene Hamilton.

Under Missouri law, a person may serve a longer prison sentence if they have previously been convicted or pleaded guilty to a felony offense.

Hayes is accused of shooting Cynthia White, a 55-year-old Comfort Inn general manager. Officers found White’s body on Nov. 24 in an office at the hotel with a gunshot wound to the head. Officer’s also discovered that money had been stolen from a cash drawer.

In a separate case, Hayes is accused of asking a female clerk at the same hotel to have sex with him on Nov. 15. When she refused, Hayes pointed a handgun at her and said, “Well, give me the money then,” according to court documents. Investigators said he then forced her into a back room and raped her at gunpoint, before stealing her car.

Hayes is also charged with robbing another hotel, the Hampton Inn at 3410 Clark Lane.

A guest told police a man knocked on his hotel room door and asked for his ice bucket, according to court documents. When he opened the door, the man had what he thought to be a gun. The guest, Brian Plattner of Sabetha, Kan., forced the man out of the doorway and locked the door and then called police, documents show. Plattner identified Hayes to police using a photo line up.

Hayes was arrested Nov. 25 at his home on a warrant for the Hampton Inn robbery. Police searched his house and found a gun, thought to be the weapon used to kill White, and bullets, according to police.

During interviews with investigators, Hayes admitted to committing the robbery and rape at the Comfort Inn, according to a probable cause affidavit. He also gave incriminating statements linking him to the murder of White, according to the document.

His trial is set to begin on April 29 for charges of second-degree murder, forcible rape, forcible sodomy, four counts of armed criminal action, first degree robbery and first degree tampering of a motor vehicle.

Tucson Police arrested three people Saturday afternoon in connection with the death of a cab driver.

Captain Bill Richards said officers arrested one man and two women from a midtown apartment complex, “We believe all three were present at the time the cab driver was murdered, robbery was the motive,” he said.

Police found Timothy Royce late Wednesday night in a midtown alley. The 27-year-old had been shot to death.

Dianna Barsotti, Royce’s mother said, “The news was shocking and I really want to take an opportunity to thank the Tucson Police Department.” His fiance Melissa Bothwick who is pregnant with Royce’s baby said, “Mostly relieved. Hopefully it will be the beginning of the end for some closure for some justice and for all of us and for Tim.”

Royce’s funeral services have been set for Wednesday.

Police identify three arrested in cab driver slaying

Tucson police have identified a young man, a woman and a teenager arrested Saturday in Wednesday’s slaying of a taxi cab driver.

Ruben E. Archunde, 20, Marisela N. Pacheco, 30, and Jessica R. Gallegos, 16, were booked into the Pima County Jail Saturday night, said Officer Frank Amado, a police spokesman.

They were held on suspicion of first degree murder, armed robbery and aggravated robbery, Amado said.

Driver Timothy R. Royce, 27, died of an apparent gunshot wound. His body was found in an alley around Sixth Avenue and Helen Street late Wednesday night near his abandoned Yellow Cab.

Police said Royce was shot to death in an apparent robbery and they are in the early stages of investigating “several scenarios.”

Gary and Paula Whitlock have waited two years for justice for their daughter Sarah.

Thursday night they heard the verdict they’ve been waiting for, Kimothy Simmons guilty of first degree murder.

“Finally, after two years closure can begin to occur, healing can begin to take place, it’s been a long time,” says Gary Whitlock.

The jury decided that Kimothy Simmons had planned the killing of Sarah Whitlock when he dressed as a police officer, came into her apartment and stabbed her more than 31 times.

Whitlock wanted to be a nurse. She was still in nursing school.

“I know she would be glad that the ugliness that surrounded that one day in her life is over because then it takes away, it shadows what a beautiful person she was,” says Paula Whitlock.

Simmons only looked down as the verdict was read. It will send him to prison for the rest of his life.

Prosecutors would have asked for the death penalty but couldn’t because Simmons was just 17 when Whitlock was killed.

“There’s no way this brings closure to the family but it shows the system works and he will be where he needs to be for the rest of his life,” says prosecutor Bernie de la Rionda.

Now, both mother and father say they will try to forget about the man who took the flower of their lives.

“She was happy, she was a Gerber Daisy and so I’m just thankful not to have to deal with this part of it anymore and I can have my good memories of my daughter,” says Paula Whitlock.

The judge will set a formal sentencing date on Monday.

The house on Cambria Drive in the Innerarity Point community looks like any other cottage in this quiet, beach community…unassuming and quiet. But sheriff’s investigators in Escambia County, Florida, say the house was a supply and distribution center for a major drug operation.

“We’ve been looking at this house for four months,” says Glenn Austin, spokesman for the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. “Our narcotics agents and agents with the D.E.A. worked on this case.”

Ruben Flores and his step-son, Ivan Valdespino were arrested on dozens of drug trafficking charges. Agents found large amounts of crack cocaine, powder cocaine, meth and mushrooms inside the house. Detectives also seized cash, weapons and cars during the arrest.

“Because of this arrest, the drug flow in this part of the county will dry up or be reduced significantly,” says Austin.

Flores and Valdespino are in police custody tonight. Flores’ bond has been set 620-thousand dollars. Bond for Valdespino has been set at 875-thousand dollars. Even if Flores makes bond, he might not be released from jail. Agents in Texas have posted a warrant for Flores’ arrest on another case.

A Clarke County grand jury has indicted a man on an attempted murder charge and other felony counts in the stabbing of an off-duty police officer.

According to the indictment, Steven Anthony Eberhart, 44, repeatedly stabbed Athens-Clarke County police Sgt. Courtney Gale and intended to murder her.

Gale was working in uniform as a security guard at a Kroger grocery store on Dec. 11 when she was stabbed 10 times, including one cut that nearly severed her femoral artery.

Gale was unconscious for two weeks and underwent several surgeries during a 45-day hospital stay.

Citizens in the store came to Gale’s aid and hold the suspect.

Athens-Clarke County officials said after a brief foot chase, they arrested Eberhart.

The grand jury also indicted Eberhart on 10 other charges including aggravated assault on a police officer and another aggravated assault charge for allegedly threatening the store manager with a knife during the incident.

Police spend the evening yanking bro’s and ho’s out of an Orlando (FL) shopping mall parking garage. Arrested on various charges, guns, drugs, being nigs etc. Out of a total of 32 arrests, 15 already had warrants. Is anyone really shocked by that? The almost simultaneous murders of White co-eds at two different, prominent universities, Auburn and University of North Carolina, should bring attention to an epidemic of brutal African-American crimes against White women in the United States.

The murder of Eve Carson, Student Body President of UNC has shocked her campus and its surrounding community to its core. Ms. Carson was found murdered in the middle of an intersection just outside downtown Chapel Hill on Wednesday, March 5th. Her body … which had two gunshot wounds, including one to the head, laid just a mile away from her SUV, which was left abandoned. Bank ATM video revealed that the murderer-carjacker, an African American, apparently attempted to get cash from Carson’s stolen ATM card shortly after the crime.

In a similar recent incident, police arrested another African American attacker, Courtney L. Lockhart, 23, for the grisly murder and attempted rape of Auburn University freshman co-ed, Lauren Burk, on March 4. Courtney was arrested on March 7 after having brutally pistol-whipped the face of another White victim, 72-year-old Marjorie Llewellyn of Newnan, Alabama and briefly kidnapping her at gunpoint during an armed robbery and attempted carjacking earlier in the day.

The recent murders of two White coeds at major universities by Black predators underscore a racial reality that the mass media in America hides from the public: the tens of millions of White victims of Black criminality in America. Over the past four decades since the “civil rights” movement, crime figures show that millions of crimes have been committed by Blacks and other non-White predators against White people. Double Homicide Suspect in Court

A man being held for a parole violation is the suspect in a double homicide in January in Sunbury.

According to court papers, investigators said it was Michael Harrell who gunned down David Moore and Crystal Gordon in January.

Harrell has not been charged with the murders yet, but he is being held for an unrelated assault.

Harrell spat at our news crew as he was led into court Thursday for a parole hearing.

Search warrants identify him as the suspect in a deadly double shooting in mid-January.

Harrell’s parole hearing was moved to a bigger courtroom for security concerns and a spit guard placed over his head. Now police continue to investigate while he sits behind bars.

“This is pretty much the only thing I’m working on. Our number one priority,” said Detective Chris Blase of the Sunbury Police Department.

He expects to file homicide charges against Harrell within a few weeks. In the meantime, investigators are still searching for the murder weapon.

“It’s hard to sleep at night sometimes too,” related Thomas Gebhardt, who lives in the same building where the killings took place. Crystal Gordon and David Moore were shot to death.

Gebhardt said it brings him some peace of mind to know the suspect is in jail.

“It’s been quiet. My friends hardly don’t come over because of what happened. I don’t know if they’re afraid,” wondered Gebhardt.

“We’re considered a city but we’re not a very big city. It’s traumatic to the community as a whole. Not only the people involved, but everyone in community it affects,” Detective Blase added.

While out on bail, a career criminal stalked and raped three teenagers and shot a rival in Miami, police say.

Pleadro Jermaine Scott, 25, was arrested Wednesday and charged with three separate rapes and attempted murder.

”He’s a one-man crime wave. He really is,” said Miami Lt. Vincent La Ricci, of the special victims unit.

Scott, awaiting trial on weapons charges, had been released from jail after posting bail in May 2007.

A preliminary DNA match helped identify Scott as a suspect, Miami police said.

By Wednesday morning, the victims had identified Scott. Detectives arrested him at a cousin’s home in Little Haiti.

His crimes, Miami police say:

• On Feb. 3, he followed a 17-year-old who was leaving her retail job in Wynwood. While riding a bicycle, he pointed a gun at her, stealing her Metro PCS Nokia phone, $34 and her ID.

Scott forced her behind a white truck and raped her, according to Miami Detective Reyneaud Gerbier’s arrest report.

Gerbier and Detective Keandra Simmons charged Scott Wednesday with armed sexual battery, armed robbery and armed kidnapping. Scott said the girl agreed to sex, according to the arrest affidavit.

• On Feb. 16, police say, Scott followed another 17-year-old who was walking home in Little Haiti. He followed her into her apartment and raped her inside her bedroom at gunpoint. Her father was home at the time, in another room, and didn’t hear the attack.

After raping the girl, Scott tried robbing her father in his room.

”If you comes out, you are a dead man,” Scott told him, according to an arrest report. The man had no money.

For the second rape, Scott faces two counts of armed sexual battery, armed robbery, attempted armed robbery and armed sexual battery. Again, Scott said the sex was consensual, police say.

• On Feb. 27, police say, Scott burst into a 19-year-old’s car that was stopped in the 800 block of Northwest 102nd Street. Pointing a gun at her, Scott forced the teen to drive to Northwest 22nd Avenue and Gulf Drive, where he raped her, police said.

After the attack, Scott forced the teen to drive him to Biscayne Boulevard and Northwest 70th Street, where she dropped him off, according to an arrest report by Miami-Dade Detective Alberto Morciego.

On Sunday, police say, Scott was involved in a completely different type of crime: attempted murder. According to a witness, Scott shot and wounded Tramell Marshall, 23, at 1511 NW 68th Terr. on Sunday night. Miami homicide Detective Ervens Ford arrested Scott on an attempted murder charge Wednesday.

A man accused of dismembering a friend and filling his grandmother’s freezer with the body parts last year, is now being charged with two dozen counts of sexual assault against a fellow prisoner at the Anchorage jail. 22-year-old Elmer Seetot was arraigned this week on 28 charges, including 23 counts of rape.

The assaults occurred over a period of five consecutive days in November and December, according to the charging document. Barry Jack, Seetot’s victim, shared a cell in the Echo Mod unit, known officially as the Anchorage Correctional Complex West.

47-year-old Jack from Valdez, is in jail on theft and forgery charges. The days of the attacks, Jack said he feared for his life. Seetot’s promise to kill Jack kept him from informing the guards of the ordeal he faced every night. “I was terrified,” he said.

Jack’s attacker, as described by Jack, is roughly the same height, but “buffed out.”

Soft-spoken and suffering from a bipolar disorder, Jack was unable to report the attack he said, until he was moved to a safer section of the prison where he knew and trusted one of the correctional officiers.

Jack said he has undergone testing for sexually transimitted diseases and Standing Together Against Rape has offered him counseling.

After asking Kansas City, Mo., police to use DNA technology to try to solve the 1987 cold case slaying of his grandmother, word that the killer was identified turned into an emotional roller coaster for Topekan Lawson Phillips.

“It was good news,” Phillips said during an interview at his Topeka home. When a police investigator told him a DNA match was made to a suspect in 2004, Phillips felt “elated, excited, (that) they found him.” Then he recalled details of the slaying of Edna Walton, 88, in her airplane bungalow in Kansas City, Mo.

“I went from real excited to crying and sobbing,” he said.

This week, Phillips and his mother, Betty Phillips, who is Walton’s daughter, will watch as Marshall Tillman, 55, is sentenced in Kansas City, Mo.

A Jackson County (Mo.) Circuit Court jury convicted Tillman on Feb. 7, 2008, of first-degree murder, rape and forcible sodomy, court records said. It had been more than 20 years since the August 1987 slaying of Walton.

Walton had been strangled to death, suffered a beating on the head and was sexually assaulted.

While no arrest was made for years, Phillips, who was 26 when his grandmother was killed, would touch base with police every two to five years to find whether there was any progress in the investigation.

“The unsolved murder of my grandmother kind of became this thing I felt an obligation I needed to follow up every few years,” Phillips said.

He didn’t accept that the killing would remain unsolved.

“That would be to give up hope, and there was no reason to give up hope. (Her death) was just unfinished business,” he said. “She deserves the follow-through on it.”

One neighbor who grew up with Courtney Lockhart in his eastern Alabama town describes him as a troublemaker who liked to pick on younger boys.

Another says Lockhart seemed like a good kid who mowed his family’s lawn and always said hello to her at the Wal-Mart.

Both neighbors, however, were taken aback to learn that the 23-year-old from Smiths Station, Ala., had been charged Saturday with capital murder in a case everyone in town had heard about — the shooting death of Marietta’s Lauren Burk, a freshman at Auburn University.

“That’s crazy,” said another neighbor, Thomas Moore, 19, who said Lockhart bullied him as a youngster, too. “I wouldn’t have believed that.”

Lockhart’s arrest came three days after Burk was found fatally wounded Tuesday night along a highway not far from the university.

Burk’s murder drew enough interest that Auburn police assembled a task force of local, state and federal investigators to find her killer.

But it was police officers from Phenix City who caught and arrested Lockhart on Friday. Phenix City is about a 35-mile drive from the Auburn campus.

“I wouldn’t call it a lucky break,” Auburn police Assistant Chief Tommy Dawson said Saturday. “I would call it a blessing from God.”

Police held a news conference in Auburn late Saturday morning to announce that Lockhart has been charged with three crimes: capital murder during a kidnapping, capital murder during a robbery and capital murder during an attempted rape.

The announcement came less than six hours before Burk was set to be memorialized at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in Marietta. Her funeral is 5:30 p.m. today at Marietta’s Temple Kol Emeth.

Lockhart’s case will be presented to a grand jury on May 5. He is being held in the Russell County jail but is expected to be moved next week to the jail in Lee County, where records show he served time in 2002 for harassment.

Lockhart did not know the 18-year-old Burk, and he acted alone, police said. Aside from that, police are releasing few details.

Dawson would not say how investigators linked Lockhart to the crime. He did say police have “a lot of evidence,” but declined to elaborate.

“We have the right individual in jail,” Dawson said. “I’m 100 percent sure of that.”

N.C. police circulate photo of possible suspect in Carson slaying

North Carolina authorities said Saturday they continue to pursue “several leads” in the shooting death of 22-year-old Athens native Eve Marie Carson.

Police investigating the death of Carson, the student body president at the University of North Carolina, are circulating a photo of a possible suspect.

Sgt. L.B. Evans, the watch commander in the neighboring city of Durham, said his department was given the photo.

Saturday night at the UNC-Duke basketball game in Durham — amid the hubbub of the teams’ huge rivalry — there was a moment of silence. UNC players had “Eve” stitched in small blue circles on their uniforms, and people on both sides of the court wore Carolina blue lapel ribbons to honor Carson’s life.

Chapel Hill (N.C.) Police Chief Brian Curran said detectives don’t have the names of any suspects.

Twice in the hours after learning Carson had been shot to death early Wednesday on a city street not far from campus, thousands of students, staff and faulty gathered to mourn her death. The tears continued to flow Friday and Saturday, and it’s likely the school will hold another memorial service after students return from next week’s spring break.

University Chancellor James Moeser plans to lead a delegation of senior administrators to services this weekend for Carson at her home in Athens. The Board of Trustees, meanwhile, has offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in her death.

Authorities say they do not believe there’s a connection between the shooting deaths of Carson and Lauren Burk, two Georgia natives attending out-of-state colleges.

Friday afternoon, Curran said his department has been in contact with authorities in Auburn to discuss “surface similarities” between the deaths. Burk was a Auburn University freshman from Marietta.

“We don’t believe they are connected,” Curran said at a Friday news conference.

Carson was shot to death early Wednesday. “We’re very hopeful that we will” solve the case, Curran said Friday afternoon during a half-hour update on the status of the case:

- Police have Carson’s laptop computer and are also looking into use of her credit card or cards, Curran said.

- 911 tapes of the two calls made after shots were fired will be released.

- There are no suspects in the case but investigators are following leads in search of clues that will lead them to Carson’s killer.

- The medical examiner’s initial examination did not reveal signs of a struggle between Carson and her killer.

- Carson was alone before her death. Her roommates had gone out at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, and had invited her along, but Carson stayed home to study. There was no sign of a break-in there, Curran said.

Police say they’ve caught the man who murdered a Scranton woman and scattered her body parts along two highways in two separate counties. State Police have charged 33 year old Charles Hicks with murdering Deanna Marie Null and dismembering her body. Hicks is currently at Monroe County Correctional Facility where he’s being held without bail. Bags containing Null’s remains were found scattered along interstates 380 and 80 in Monroe and Lackawanna Counties two months ago.

Tobyhanna man charged with killing, dismembering woman

More than a month after a woman’s dismembered body was found in garbage bags along Interstates 380 and 80, police charged a Tobyhanna man today with her homicide.

Police arrested Charles Ray Hicks, 33, after allegedly finding disembodied hands in his apartment.

Hicks, who has lived on the 100 block of Prospect Street in Coolbaugh Township since going to work for a contractor at the Tobyhanna Army Depot on Jan. 2, was charged with homicide, aggravated assault, tampering with evidence and abuse of corpse in the slaying of Deanna Null, 36, according to court documents.

“They got the wrong man,” Hicks, formerly of Texas, told reporters after his arraignment in Stroudsburg this afternoon.

A man is now charged with the murder of a woman whose remains were found scattered along two interstate highways in January. Investigators said they found two human hands in the man’s home.

The arrest comes a month and a half after the shocking discovery along Interstates 380 and 80 in the Poconos.

PennDOT workers made the first gruesome find on I-380 in January. In the end, body parts were found in eight different spots, spanning 15 miles of road.

Investigators later identified the victim as Deanna Marie Null, who had ties to Williamsport and Scranton.

Police arrested Charles Hicks, 33, from the Tobyhanna area this morning and charged him with murder. The break in the case came just over the past 48 hours. Authorities said Hicks not only killed Null, he also cut up her remains.

“The guys got the wrong guy,” Hicks said after his arrest.

Police disagree and said they found evidence inside the Hicks’ home that links him to the murder of Deanna Null.

An investigation showed the 36-year-old woman was killed, then her remains cut up and scattered like trash along two major highways in our area.

Police said all of the victim’s body parts were found except her hands.

When officers search Hicks’ rental home in Tobyhanna they found what they believe to be Null’ssevered hands wrapped in newspaper and stuffed inside a wall.

Woman convicted for selling pre-teen for sex

A woman pleaded guilty this week after prosecutors say she helped a man pay to have sex with a pre-teen girl.

38-year-old Tina Day pleaded guilty to promoting prostitution. Police say Surgio Viveros paid Day $15 to have sex with the girl. Viveros, was convicted Tuesday of paying twice to have sex with the child.

“It involved a betrayal of trust and a sense of isolation,” said Jackson Deputy Prosecutor Katie Mote. “It is especially upsetting in this case that the victim is a child.”

Viveros is a neighbor of Day’s at a Seymour apartment complex. He is now in the Jackson County Jail, not far from another man in the case, Jose Romero Mendez. Mendez, who is Day’s boyfriend, didn’t pay her to have sex with the girl, he just went ahead and molested her. He was convicted on two counts of child molest. The sex acts against the child happened over a two-month period over the summer.

“I think that’s a natural question to ask, for what could this money have been used,” Mote said. “I don’t know the answer.”

Police learned of the crime when the girl told a school counselor. Neighbors at the apartment complex are offended by the crime, but glad the men and Day were caught.

“I think it’s scary. I think that’s gross, just nasty,” one neighbor said.

A suspect linked to last year’s murder of a Lincolnville constable has his day in a Charleston courtroom. Police say Jerome Washington knew about the murder of Robert Bailey last May and that he used his car to help Walter Fayall (and Asia Prioleau) dispose of the body.

Investigators found those remains three days later in Orangeburg County after a massive manhunt.

Washington is charged with accessory after the fact of murder. He was already being held on unrelated charges.

Indonesian police arrest second man over Australian’s murder

DENPASAR, Indonesia — Indonesian police said Wednesday they had arrested a second man in connection with the murder of an Australian woman stabbed to death on the resort island of Bali earlier this month.

Ahmad Fahrul Rozi was arrested Tuesday in the city of Malang in East Java in connection with the death of 34-year-old Heidi Murphy, Bali police spokesman Anthony Samuel Reniban told AFP.

Rozi, a labourer, had been taken to Bali for questioning, he said.

Another man, Nurianto, was arrested last week after calls from Murphy’s stolen mobile phone were traced to his girlfriend.

“Nurianto told police that he had been asked by this man to help him in his plan to rob Heidi Murphy’s house,” Reniban said.

Murphy was found dead in her villa in the resort area of Canggu on February 10.

Police have said Nurianto faces a charge of carrying out a violent theft with an accomplice that led to death. The crime carries the death penalty.

Nurianto has claimed he had nothing to do with Murphy’s death, telling reporters last week that he had only dropped off Rozi at Murphy’s villa. When he collected him later, he said he saw blood on his clothes.

Police arrest Bali stabbing murder suspect

Indonesian police have arrested a man in East Java who they suspect of murdering Sydney woman Heidi Murphy.

Local officials say Ahmad Fahrul Rosi is being taken to Bali for questioning later today.

Another suspect told police last week that he drove Rosi to Heidi Murphy’s villa the night she was stabbed to death.

Both men have previously served time in prison for theft.

Ms Murphy’s body was found earlier this month with 16 major stab wounds and was cremated in Bali last Friday.

Serial rapist in Charlottesville area receives four life sentences

An Albemarle County man who committed a series of rapes over nearly a decade in the Charlottesville area was sentenced Tuesday.

Forty-year-old Nathan Antonio Washington was arrested in August after police spent years trying to match a suspect with DNA evidence in seven rapes.

Washington — a former meat cutter and newspaper deliveryman who is married and a father of four — pleaded guilty in December to charges related to four attacks in Charlottesville and one in Albemarle County.

Under a plea agreement, a judge will sentence Washington to four life sentences for the Charlottesville attacks. A separate agreement in Albemarle County calls for an additional 20 years in prison for breaking and entering in connection with a 2004 sexual assault.

Tamir Hamilton Pleads Insanity in Sparks Killing

A man facing trial for the rape and killing of a Sparks teenager is pleading insanity.

Twenty-nine year old Tamir Hamilton entered his new plea Thursday during a hearing before Washoe District Judge Connie Steinheimer.

The judge also rejected a defense request to exclude a possible death penalty.

Hamilton’s is charged with sexually assaulting and killing 16-year-old Holly Jean Quick in her bedroom in 2006.

He was a friend and former roommate of the girl’s older sister.

His trial is scheduled to begin March 17.

Hamilton pleaded no contest last summer and was sentenced to life in prison for raping a University of Nevada, Reno student the month before Quick was killed.

Gerald Davison, 16, arrested for shooting and killing a Palo Verde high school classmate has now officially been charged as an adult. Gerald Davison made his first appearance outside of family court, standing next to an alleged accomplice.

“They came here looking for the American dream and all of a sudden the American dream has turned into a nightmare.” The Williams family’s attorney, Brent Bryson says they came from Belize.

“He wasn’t an honor student, but he graduated, he dabbled in and out of sports, he had jobs, he wasn’t employed at the time. His mother works for the RJ as head of security,” said Bryson.

Bryson wouldn’t say where things went wrong but did say Williams met the younger Davison at Cimarron High School and says now they are getting threats.

“Some of them are pretty outrageous, calling the kids terrorists and saying they should be lynched.” Bryson is calling for everyone to take a deep breath and wait for the facts. Facts he says even the D.A. doesn’t have yet.

“We show up and start talking about bail issues, and the D.A. stands up and says we are not ready to go, we need more time.”

The judge said Davison won’t get bail. But Williams still could. Authorities still need to interview him to determine if he’s a flight risk. Williams is expected to be back in court on Monday.

In the police report, Davison said Williams handed him the gun. He is very specific. He says Williams handed him the gun and said, “Are you gonna do it, you gonna get at them.”

Williams’ attorney says he’s going to plead not guilty to the accessory to murder charges.

The city of Winston-Salem is close to finalizing a review of a case that’s caused years of controversy. A citizen’s group will look into how the investigation was handled into the near-fatal beating of Jill Marker at the Silk Plant Forest store in 1995 and the subsequent conviction of Kalvin Smith.

Amid growing questions about Smith’s innocence, Winston-Salem officials are finalizing details about a citizen’s committee that will review the investigation that led to his conviction.

“There’s enough questions about the case that having a fresh look at the case with citizens involved, it can’t hurt,” said Winston-Salem City Manager Lee Garrity.

Smith has served 12 years of a 28-year prison sentence after being convicted of assault and robbery in the 1995 beating Marker, a store clerk at the Silk Plant Forest, a store that is now closed but was once next to Toys ‘R’ Us at the shopping center on Silas Creek Parkway.

Friends blame drugs for brutal stabbing deaths

Waving around a bottle of pricey pills in a neighborhood where drugs rule may have been what got a South Halifax Avenue woman killed, her friends said Thursday.

The friends said Donna Sinclair, 51, and a man described only as “Junior” by neighbors, were stabbed multiple times Wednesday night in a tiny apartment just two or three blocks from the heart of where thousands of motorcyclists will soon gather for Bike Week.

Police Chief Mike Chitwood called the killings “the most gruesome crime scene I have ever been on” and said the motive was likely robbery.

But judging from the way Sinclair lived — “one step above homelessness,” according to Chitwood — the bottle of methamphetamines she had Wednesday morning may have been what the killer was after, said Sinclair’s neighbor Olivia Young and a friend of the victim who asked not to be identified because she fears for her safety.

“The reason someone would have killed Donna was to get those pills,” said the friend. “She was high and kind of crazy that morning — the same day she was killed.”

Records show Sinclair — who the friend said is the mother of a grown son and daughter — had been arrested for possession of cocaine and marijuana in the past. She had also been nabbed for prostitution.

Police would not confirm the victims’ identification Thursday. However, Donna Sinclair’s name is written across a mailbox at 139 S. Halifax Ave. where the killings occurred.

“This was methodical and deliberate,” Chitwood said describing the killings. “When you look at this blood-soaked crime scene, you gotta ask yourself, ‘What did these people do to deserve this?’ “

Police have charged 26-year-old Doug Blaine Matthews with two counts of first-degree murder. Matthews has a criminal drug and theft record locally and in North Carolina, where he recently lived.

Chitwood said investigators are also looking for “another suspect.”

According to a police report, investigators were called to a building of three apartments in a shabby stretch of South Halifax Avenue just after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. When officers arrived, they saw Sinclair’s male friend lying on the ground just outside Apartment 1, yelling for help.

The man had been stabbed at least 12 times in the back and chest, Chitwood said.

When officers walked inside the unit, they found Sinclair on her bed with a pillow over her face. She had been stabbed in the chest about a dozen times.

Investigators then canvassed the neighborhood and learned from an anonymous source that the suspect was probably at 125 S. Wild Olive Ave., Chitwood said. That apartment is about three blocks from where Sinclair and her friend were killed.

The South Wild Olive residence also is directly across from the city’s beachside police precinct.

Both police and residents have said those neighborhoods, in the shadows of the city’s signature tourist spots, are rife with drugs. Police arrest an average of 200 to 300 people on the beachside every week, records show. The crimes include drug offenses.

Wednesday night when investigators arrived at the South Wild Olive address, they had no doubt it was the right place to find the suspect.

“We saw a pair of bloody sneakers,” Chitwood said. “When we went into the house, we saw a man in his boxer shorts lying on top of some bloody clothes.”

Detectives were able to identify the man as Matthews because he had a traffic citation in the back pocket of his black jeans. The ticket had been issued by Daytona Beach police in October 2007, Chitwood said. The name on the ticket was Matthews’. Police also found a blood-soaked white T-shirt wrapped around the male victim’s wallet, the chief said.

Chitwood said there were “blood patches all over the shower curtain.”

The chief said at least five people — including Matthews — were staying at the South Olive residence, a tiny four-room unit that was cluttered and filthy. He called Matthews and his roommates “a conglomeration of lowlifes.”

Investigators said when Matthews was being questioned, he admitted he had gone to Sinclair’s home Wednesday night. He said that when he got there, however, he saw her male friend stabbing her. Matthews said he then attacked the man to help Sinclair, police said.

Thursday afternoon, Sinclair’s neighbor Young and the close friend stood on Young’s front porch looking around uneasily as they talked about Sinclair and Matthews.

The friend said she would not give her name “because I have to survive on these streets.”

She did, however, describe Matthews as a menacing individual who drove around in a black Monte Carlo, threatening to “break people’s legs.”

“Donna was a little loopy, but she had a good heart,” the friend said. “She would help anybody.”

Young agreed: “She was the kind of person that would let people sleep on her couch if they had nowhere to go.”

Chitwood said the attack on Sinclair was particularly heinous because of her petite frame. She was only 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighed under 100 pounds, according to arrest records. Matthews meanwhile, is over 6 feet tall.

“The woman never had a chance,” Chitwood said.

A 26-year-old was arrested overnight and is facing murder charges for a double homicide in Daytona Beach. Police are searching for a second suspect.

Chief Mike Chitwood called the scene of the stabbing deaths of a man and woman at an apartment last night “one of the most gruesome” he’s ever seen.

“It was methodical and it was deliberate,” the chief said of the killings at a press conference this morning.

The stabbings occurred at an apartment at 139 S. Halifax Avenue. Police said the woman, who was found inside, was likely pinned on the bed with her head covered by a pillow while she was stabbed in the chest repeatedly.

Police believe the man tried to stop that attack and then was stabbed in the front, the back and while he was trying to get away. He stumbled outside, calling for help and saying he was dying.

Police have arrested Doug Blaine Matthews, of Daytona Beach. Investigators said witnesses at the crime scene provided clues that led them to Matthews.

He was found at a home on Wild Olive Avenue, about a half-mile from the crime scene. Police said they found bloody sneakers — with a distinctive Air Jordan pattern that also was found at the crime scene — at the Wild Olive home and other blood evidience.

Chitwood said it appeared Matthews, who was found hiding under a pile of clothes, had been trying to wash blood off of him in the shower.

Police also recovered a wallet they believe belongs to the male victim in Matthews’ possession. There was no obvious murder weapon inside the apartment, but police recovered three knives in the surrounding area. They are testing them to see if any was used in the killing.

Police said the motive appears to be robbery at this point.

Police: Brothers Awaiting Trial Behaving Badly In Jail

Constant trouble has followed the three brothers in jail awaiting trial in the slaying of a young Jacksonville girl, according to authorities.

Channel 4 viewers may remember first seeing Tijuan, Rasheem and Terrell Dubose when the brothers made their first appearance in court on murder charges. At that time, the trio was seen laughing and smiling at the cameras, despite facing serious charges.

All three are charged in the slaying of 8-year-old Dreshawna Davis, who was fatally shot when a hail of bullets riddled her family’s home.

Davis died trying to protect her cousin, her family said.

A year after being indicted, the Dubose brothers have racked up a thick file of disciplinary reports in jail.

“They are all just miscreants,” said Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office spokesman Ken Jefferson. “They just have a total disrespect for themselves as well as authorities.”

The brothers’ records cite inappropriate conduct such as fighting, stealing, lying, masturbating, drugs, and disobedience.

“Their behavior in the detention facility has just been despicable,” Jefferson said.

Police said the whole list of misconduct is what the Dubose brothers have been up to since they’ve been arrested.

“They don’t cooperate. They’ve been involved with fights. They are just a menace to society,” Jefferson said.

Police said it’s not hard to believe the accusations against the Dubose brothers, based on their conduct in public. One of the brothers made an obscene jester to TV cameras during his last court appearance.

“They have no respect for the judge. These guys — they are in the right place,” said Jefferson.

The Dubose brothers are expected to be back in court within the next few months.

Memphis, TN- Friday, February 15, 2008, a jury found Monique Johnson guilty of reckless homicide. She had originally been charged with first degree murder.

Johnson shot Memphis police officer Tony Hayes during a fight in September of 2006. The two had been dating. Johnson’s attorney said the shooting was self defense, while prosecutors argued it was planned.

After shooting Hayes, Johnson and her 16 year-old son then stuffed his body in the trunk of Hayes’ Lexus.

The maximum amount Johnson could serve is four years in prison.

She has already served 17 months.

She is set to be sentenced in March 2008.

“He told me I could never tell him no and if he wanted it I would have to give it to him,” Johnson said.

Johnson testified in court that months into her relationship with Memphis Police Officer Tony Hayes, Hayes became obsessed and jealous. He repeatedly forced her to have sex. He also stalked her and physically abused her.

Johnson says she tried to end he relationship numerous times.

In September of 2006 the two argued at her home.

Johnson said Hayes forced her into a closet where she kept a gun.

“I was holding the gun shaking. Asking him to leave. He said you won’t shoot me. I said you’re not going to let you hurt me. At that point he took a turn like he was going to leave, that’s when I started shooting,” Johnson said.

Authorities in Bolivar, Tennessee have made an arrest in connection with the brutal beating death of former Hardeman County Commissioner Dunn Mask.

Bolivar Police say 32 year-old Don Mask Brown, Jr. is in custody. He’s accused of robbing 79 year-old Dunn Mask and severely beating him after he returned home from dining out with his wife in September 2007. Mr. Mask died a few days later.

Brown is charged with First Degree Murder and Aggravated Assault. Police believe he robbed Mr. Mask because he thought he was wealthy. The Masks owned a lot of farmland in Hardeman County.

Police say what makes the case disturbing is the fact the Brown’s family is very close to the Mask Family, and has been for years. Brown’s father, aunt, and his father’s twin, were name after Mr. Mask and his wife Peggy.

Police in Burlington say someone is attacking people (White people) while they’re pumping gas.

One victim says it happened in broad daylight in front of several people.

She was hit was a metal pipe says she’s scarred for life.

“All I saw were eyes and blue bandana… And that’s when I fell and um… I was like Oh, my God.. he’s going to kill me,” explained attack victim Kathleen Fisher.

Her nose is broken and her sinus’ are caved in. She is also missing a front tooth and all of her top teeth are loose.

A similar attack happened two weeks ago.

The thing is that neither victim was robbed. They were just beaten.

The owner of Great Stops on North Church Street is offering a reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction of a man wanted for assaulting a Burlington woman in January in the store’s parking lot.

Phil Kleinman who owns the 24-hour convenience store, which is located near the convergence of North Church and Fisher streets, is offering a $2,500 reward. Alamance County CrimeStoppers will also pay for information that leads to an arrest and conviction, according to a Burlington Police Department news release.

Police have been searching for the man who assaulted Kathleen Fisher of Burlington since the attack on Jan. 16. Fisher stopped at Great Stops at about 9 a.m. that morning. As she was heading in the store to pay for her fuel, a man whose face was masked with a blue bandanna, approached her and hit her in the face.

At the time, Fisher told police she thought she was hit with a bottle. Since that time, her physician informed her that her injuries — a broken nose and facial fractures — were more likely caused by a metal object, such as a pipe.

DNA leads to an arrest in a 16-year-old cold murder case.

Murphysboro police arrested 37-year-old Quincy Damell Hughes Friday afternoon. Hughes is charged with the 1991 murder of Cindy Lou Pavey.

Pavey’s body was found on December 2nd at a home on Shomaker Drive. Investigators reopened the case late last year, after discovering new forensic evidence.

Authorities say a Murphysboro man is in custody for an alleged 1991 murder of a 22-year-old female.

Police arrested Quincy Damell Hughes, 37, around 3 p.m. Friday after a judge issued a warrant for him on unrelated charges, according to a Murphysboro Police Department press release.

Hughes is charged with first degree murder in the death of Cindy Lou Pavey, whose body was discovered by officers in a Murphysboro residence nearly two decades ago. A coroner’s jury ruled the death a homicide, but authorities could not pinpoint a suspect at the time.
