Police Arrest 2 On Unrelated Murder Charges

Police announced Thursday the first two homicide arrests of 2008 by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office: Quentin Joyner was charged with Monday night’s shooting death of 21-year-old Kevin Jackson, and Erica Thomas, 19, was charged in the shooting death of a man during a robbery at a Westside motel in October.

According to the arrest report, Joyner was fighting with Jackson Monday night at the Sanctuary Walk Apartments before he went to his car, got a handgun, returned and fired shots through the door.

Witnesses said Jackson jumped from a second-story window and began to run away while Joyner gave chase and fatally shot the 21-year-old.

In addition to a charge of murder, Joyner is also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Police said they began building a case against Thomas in the Oct. 2 homicide of 54-year-old Jimmy Daugherty, of Kingsland, Ga., after getting a tip from the teen’s friend.

Detectives provided the friend with a recording device and they said she recorded Thomas admitting she planned to rob the victim in a Lane Avenue motel room, but the robbery “went so south.”

Thomas was a student at Raines High School at the time of the crime, which detectives said she had planned for two months.

Actor Gary Coleman got married last year but he’s only revealing it now.

Memphis School Board member Kenneth Whalum Jr. said this morning that Memphis City Schools should be shut down if the safety of students cannot be assured.

Whalum Jr. was reacting to the recent shootings inside Memphis City Schools. Whalum blasted fellow school board members and the interim superintendent for not taking the situation seriously and not reacting fast enough. Whalum Jr. was not at a press conference last night at the school board because he said, “I do not stand with them.”

Whalum went as far as to call for the closure of Memphis schools, “Unless and until Memphis City Schools can assure students, parents, teachers and voters that their children are safe in Memphis City Schools. Unless and until we can provide that assurance, Memphis City School system needs to be shut down.”

Whalum Jr. said he suggested this to interim Superintendent Dan Ward but Ward said it wasn’t possible and it would scare people.

Whalum Jr. said he has asked the mayor to declare some type of mayoral emergency.

Mayor Herenton has called a press conference for 2 p.m.

Girl, 10, impregnated by mom’s boyfriend

An Ohio man already jailed for drugs faces charges of impregnating his girlfriend’s 10-year-old daughter.

The investigation began after the girl gave birth to a daughter in November at University Hospital in Cincinnati. The hospital reported the birth to the Hamilton County Department of Job and Family Services because of the mother’s age.

On Wednesday, investigators learned that Michael Chaffer’s DNA showed him to be the father, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported. Chaffer is in a jail in Columbus serving a one-year sentence.

Also Wednesday, there was a status hearing on the girl and baby. They originally lived with the girl’s mother, who was ordered not to allow any adult men into her home, until investigators found Chaffer there.

The baby is in a foster home, while the girl is living with relatives. The mother has been barred from seeing her granddaughter and can only have supervised visits with her daughter.

A woman leaving an eyeglass store is grabbed in the parking lot by four men who force her, kicking and screaming, into a pickup truck. The kidnappers demand a $900,000 ransom.

But police soon realize her family is holding something back and isn’t fully cooperating with them. Later, investigators find out that relatives have arranged the woman’s release on their own. And they discover that members of the family are heavy into marijuana trafficking.

The case illustrates how a terrifyingly common crime in Latin America has moved across the border into the United States: Criminals and their family members are being kidnapped by fellow criminals and held for six-figure ransoms.

The abductions are occurring in the Phoenix area at the rate of practically one per day, and police suspect they have led to killings in which bound and bullet-riddled bodies have been found dumped in the desert.

The kidnap victims are typically drug- or immigrant-smugglers, who are seen as inviting targets because they have a lot of money, they can raise large sums of cash on short notice, and they are unlikely to go to the police, for fear their own shady dealings will come to light.

“We have never had a victim that we have investigated that has been as clean as the new driven snow,” said Sgt. Phil Roberts, who investigates the kidnappings. “There has always been some type of criminal element to it. Either they are criminals, drug dealers or human smugglers — or a close family member is.”

The kidnappers themselves are fellow traffickers who are doing it for the money or to punish their rivals.

Phoenix had more than 340 reported such kidnappings last year, but police said the real number is much higher because many cases go unreported.

The San Diego area has also seen a rise in kidnappings over the past year, with two or three reported during busy weeks, and some victims were mixed up in drug smuggling. But the hostage-taking appears to be most prevalent in Phoenix, the nation’s biggest base of operations for immigrant smugglers.

Kidnappings are common in Mexico, and the victims often include criminals as well as legitimate businessmen, such as bankers. Phoenix police said they believe the kidnappers here are not going after legitimate businessmen for fear their families will go to the police.

The kidnappings first came to light in Phoenix three years ago but are rising as overall violence associated with immigrant smuggling intensifies in Arizona.

Immigrant smuggling is a lucrative line of work: A ring that moves a load of 30 illegal immigrants through Arizona can gross $45,000 to $75,000.

And smugglers can quickly get their hands on large sums of money — sometimes in the middle of the night. In one case, someone who turned to authorities about a kidnapping brought more than $300,000 in ransom money to the police department in cereal boxes.

Police were searching Friday for three men in connection with the shooting death of a Fayetteville man a week ago.

Bobby Eugene Clemmons, 23, was left at the emergency entrance to Highsmith Rainey Hospital on Dec. 19 after being shot, and he later died, police said.

Police recovered the vehicle they believe Clemmons was in when he was dropped off at the hospital. The black Kia was located near Fordham Drive.

The location where the shooting occurred hasn’t yet been determined, police said.

David William Covington, 23, of 204 Brinkley St., was arrested Thursday and charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, conspiracy to commit murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle. He was being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center on a $210,000 secured bond.

Police were searching for the following men in the case:

Larry Donnell Everett, 23, of 1110 Clark St.; Kajuan Kenneth Toles, 24, of 827-A Orange St.; and Ricky Lavelle Martin Jr., 19, of 289 Ingram St.

Another man who was identified last week as a person of interest in the case has been questioned and released, police said.

Las Vegas police arrested a man Friday afternoon in connection with a bloody machete attack the night before that left a woman dead and her two children maimed.

Police booked Victor Cruz, 29, on murder and attempted murder charges after catching him in an apartment complex near Tropicana Avenue and Mountain Vista Street.

Investigators believe Cruz, also known as Victor Orlando Cruz-Garcia, attacked a 46-year-old woman and her two children after she told him to leave their apartment because he was drunk, homicide Lt. Lew Roberts said.

Cruz and his girlfriend shared the apartment with the family, he said.

Alex Martinez, 22, who lives in the unit above at the Cabana Park apartments near Bonanza Road and Eastern Avenue, said he was in bed when he heard the thumping sounds of a fight.

When Martinez peered out a window, he saw a woman bleeding on the ground and a bleeding girl running around the building.

Not far away, Martinez saw a man on the ground covering his head with his hands as the attacker whaled on him seven or eight times with a foot-and-a-half long machete.

The attacker didn’t say anything. He just kept hitting, Martinez said.

After taking the blows, the man on the ground grabbed his dangling arm, which was nearly severed below the elbow, and ran while the blood poured like water, Martinez said.

“It was very ugly,” he said.

Roberts said the blood trail led across the parking lot and around some cars, as if the victim were running from the machete-wielding man.

Cruz disappeared before police arrived, but investigators learned he had an acquaintance near Tropicana and Mountain Vista and flooded the area with patrol officers Friday. One of the officers spotted Cruz in an apartment complex about 1:30 p.m. and arrested him.

Meanwhile, the woman died at University Medical Center. Her 12-year-old daughter was in critical condition with severe cuts and trauma to her head and face, though she had been talking Friday, Roberts said.

The woman’s 27-year-old son was also in critical condition after doctors reattached his partially severed arm and a severed finger found at the scene, he said.

“It’s one of the worst I’ve seen,” Roberts said of the crime.

By Friday afternoon, most of the blood had been cleaned in the complex on Aster Lane, but a few dried blood patches on the light gray gravel served as reminders of the attack.

A handful of children on their way home from Lunt Elementary stopped to gawk at the stained concrete outside the apartment with Bill Richardson campaign stickers on the window.

In the window next door, someone had hanged Christmas lights and wrote the words “Feliz Navidad.”

Eunice Lopez was charged with nine counts of bigamy Wednesday, reported WPLG-TV in Miami.

The charges say she married the men between 2002 and 2006 without divorcing any of them. In one case, she married two men in the same month.

Suspects accused of Thanksgiving Day rape

A man and a teenager are accused of sexually assaulting a woman on Thanksgiving Day.

The sheriff’s office says Jesus Vargas-Garcia, 33, is charged with sexual assault, false imprisonment and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.

Hector Raul Gomez-pol, 17, is charged sexual assault.

Authorities say the two are co-workers. According to the victim, Vargas-Garcia wanted her to have sex with Gomez-pol.

She refused and Vargas-Garcia put a gun to her head. At that point, both allegedly sexually assaulted her.

She was eventually able to get away, but said that Vargas-Garcia caught her, dragged her back to the site of the assault and started to choke her.

The victim said he only stopped because someone knocked on the door - that’s when she was able to get away.

Vargas-Garcia and Gomez-pol were both arrested and taken to the Lee County Jail.

A two-month-old boy is in state custody and his parents are in jail after the child was airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital with several fractures to his arm, legs and ribs, an Anderson County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman said Wednesday.

The boy and a 3-year-old sibling have been taken into the care of the state Department of Social Services, she said.

The father, 26-year-old Anthony Enclarde, has been charged with inflicting great bodily injury upon a child, Griffin said. The mother, 19-year-old Morganna Massey, was charged with unlawful conduct toward a child, Griffin said.

Both were in the Anderson County Detention Center late Wednesday

Witnesses said the red Ford was speeding, going 90 mph or faster, when it hit the teenager on a bicycle Thursday night.

The police car was right behind.

Christopher E. Cooper, 17, a son, a smiling classmate, and a skateboarder, died of blunt trauma from the collision.

On Friday, prosecutors charged with murder the man they say was driving the speeding car.

Wilfredo J. Pujols, 24, faces one count of second-degree murder, one count of resisting arrest and two counts of leaving the scene of an accident and driving while intoxicated.

All but the DWI are felonies.

Pujols, of Independence, made his first appearance in court Friday evening. A judge read the charges against him and ordered him held on $500,000 cash bond.

Cooper’s death was the third in less than 10 days involving a driver trying to elude Independence police. In each of the first two, the fleeing drivers died after their cars lost control and overturned.

According to witnesses and police accounts, Cooper was trying to cross Noland Road at Osage Street about 9 p.m. Thursday, bound for home after stopping at a QuikTrip.

Witnesses said Cooper had waited for a turning vehicle to clear the intersection, then crossed as the red Ford sped around stopped traffic. The car’s headlights were off and it showed no attempt to slow down, witnesses told police.

An officer chasing the Ford saw a body in the street and reported that one of the occupants may have jumped out. Later, when he noticed two suspects still inside, he radioed dispatchers that a pedestrian may have been struck.

News of Cooper’s death hit classmates at Truman High School especially hard. Less than two hours after classes began Friday, a steady line of cars formed with parents waiting to pick up distraught children.

“He wasn’t just a good kid, he was a great kid,” freshman Katie Jones said to sophomore Lacey Hubbard later Friday afternoon at the crash site.

Classmates described Cooper as an avid skateboarder.

At Santa Fe Trail Park on Friday night, classmates, friends and family paid homage to

Cooper at a skateboard park her visited nearly every day.

“We love you Coop!” was scrawled on the pavement of the park, and a candlelight altar with photographs of him burned on a ledge.

Cooper’s older brother Ryan Steely led the vigil and spoke about how thankful the family was to see such an outpouring of support. He asked for a moment of silence, and simply spoke with quiet disbelief at the loss of their loved one.

“Everything is kind of overwhelming,” he said.

Pujols Cousin Charged With Second-Degree Murder

A man accused of killing of a 17-year-old bicyclist while fleeing police in a car has been hit with numerous charges, including second-degree felony murder.

In addition to the murder charge, Jackson County prosecutor Jim Kanatzar on Friday charged Wilfredo J. Pujols Jr. with two counts of leaving the scene of an accident, resisting arrest and driving while intoxicated.

Pujols, the cousin of St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols, is the alleged driver of a vehicle that struck bicyclist Christopher Cooper during a chase that started on Interstate 70 around 8 p.m. Thursday night. Cooper was hit when the fleeing car ran a red light.

Pujols and another occupant fled into the woods after striking a tree, but were tracked down by police dogs and arrested.

Pujols was being held in the Jackson County Jail in lieu of $1 million bond.

A man died Sunday morning from injuries sustained when he was shot at a Zebulon home.

Antony Devon Judd, 19, of Wilson, was shot Saturday night at 3029 Rosenburg Road. He was transported by ambulance to WakeMed where he later died.

Warren Charles Clifford, 45, who lived at the home, was taken into custody, Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison said.

According to Harrison, the shooting appeared to be a domestic dispute, because the two men apparently knew each other.

Police are searching for a man whose wife was shot outside a Dunn hospital Saturday night. An Amber Alert issued for two of their children was canceled Sunday morning.

Azucena D. Diaz, 28, of Autryville, was shot in the head and chest in the employee parking lot of Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital at about 8 p.m., according to Dunn police.

Diaz is an employee at the 800 Tilghman Dr. hospital. She was treated in the emergency room and later airlifted to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill where she was listed in critical condition.

Diaz’s estranged husband, Joaquin Rangel Ramirez, 31, is wanted in connection with the shooting, police said. Ramirez is described as a Hispanic man, 5 feet 6 inches tall, 150 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

At the time of the shooting, he was wearing a blue and yellow jacket, police said. Ramirez left the scene in a vehicle believed to be a white pearl 2002 Cadillac Escalade with white rims, tinted windows and North Carolina license tag number VZT9795.

He is considered to be armed and dangerous. An Amber Alert was issued for two of the couple’s children, Maren Rangel and Briana Ramirez.

JaMorris Brandon Walker, 18, was arrested Tuesday for the murder of 18-year-old Zeric Harrison. Harrison was killed last weekend.

Orlando police arrested a man who was spotted trying to steal from a city fire station early Wednesday.

A witness spotted a man inside the building on South Westmoreland Avenue at about 2 a.m. A police officer later found Larry G. Shingles, who matched the suspect’s description, in the area.

The officer had to chase Shingles down on foot to arrest him. He was taken to Orange County Jail, under charges of burglary and resisting arrest without violence.

Man Arrested after Setting Fire to Apartments

Early Saturday morning, Charlotte Fire Department responded to an apartment complex on West 26th Street after two fires were intentionally set. No residents were hurt in the fire.

Police arrested James Otis Gladden at the scene of the fire and charged him with fire degree arson, malicious use of explosive damage property and misuse of the 911 system.

His bail was set at $55,000.

A transient who robbed another man after asking him for a cigarette was arrested in front of the Central Florida Coalition for the Homeless shelter early Wednesday.

Orlando police said that Weston Jackson asked a 46-year-old man for the smoke in the 900 block of West Central Boulevard, but then snatched money from his hand and fled.

Police later found Jackson, 42, in front of the homeless shelter.

Jackson was taken to Orange County Jail, under one charge of robbery.

Orlando police, dispatched to a burglary at an occupied home, caught the thief walking down the street carrying his haul Tuesday night.

Officers were on their way to the reported crime at 621 W. South St. when they spotted a man toting a TV near Terry and Anderson streets.

Police arrested 50-year-old Johnny Howard on the spot.

A man police described as a “menace to Orlando” was arrested for the 36th time hours after being featured on Local6.com and Local 6 News.

Investigators said Anthony White has supplied street-level drug dealers in the Parramore area for some time.

Members of the Orange County sheriff’s warrants division took White into custody Tuesday after receiving a tip from a Local 6 viewer.

“What did they pick you up for man?” Local 6’s Donald Forbes asked White during his arrest.

“I don’t know?” White said.

“You don’t know? They say you are a big-time drug dealer,” Forbes said.

“I don’t sell drugs,” White said.

Officers said White was able to slip through a recent roundup of more than 200 suspects in an operation conducted by MBI officers and Orlando police.

“He is a menace to Orlando,” Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation Sgt. Robert Anzueto said. “He is a problem.”

White has been arrested 35 times on charges of grand theft, robbery and other violent felonies, police said.

Detectives said even though White has been arrested 36 times, current charges should keep him in custody, Local 6 reported.

Iran warned on Saturday it would fire off 11 000 rockets at enemy bases within the space of a minute if the United States launched military action against the Islamic republic.

“In the first minute of an invasion by the enemy, 11 000 rockets and cannons would be fired at enemy bases,” said a brigadier general in the elite Revolutionary Guards, Mahmoud Chaharbaghi.

“This volume and speed of firing would continue,” added Chaharbaghi, who is commander of artillery and missiles of the Guards’ ground forces, according to the semi-official Fars news agency.

The United States has never ruled out attacking Iran to end its defiance over the controversial Iranian nuclear programme, which the US alleges is aimed at making nuclear weapons but Iran insists is entirely peaceful.

Iran has for its part vowed never to initiate an attack but has also warned of a crushing response to any act of aggression against its soil.

“If a war breaks out in the future, it will not last long because we will rub their noses in the dirt,” said Chaharbaghi.

“Now the enemy should ask themselves how many of their people they are ready to have sacrificed for their stupidity in attacking Iran,” he said.

Iranian officials have repeatedly warned the military would target the bases of US forces operating in neighbouring Iraq and Afghanistan in the event of any attack and already has these sites under close surveillance.

Chaharbaghi said that the Guards would soon receive “rockets with a range of 250 kilometres (155 miles)” whereas the current range of its rockets is 150 kilometres (91 miles).

“We have identified our targets and with a close surveillance of targets, we can respond to the enemy’s stupidity immediately,” Chaharbaghi added.

He said that the Guards’ weapons were spread out throughout the country and so would not be affected by any isolated US strikes against military facilities.

The Guards are Iran’s elite ideological army and responsible for its most significant weapons such as the longer range Shahab-3 missile which has Israel and US bases in the Middle East within its range.

Suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick has put his lakefront suburban Atlanta estate on the market for 4.5 million dollars.

When I was a small child one of the worst things I had ever seen was the shooting of animals at my grandparents farm. He said he had to kill it because the animal was suffering - it was either too sick or too old. I thought back of how men would shoot their horses for the same reason, the animal was too sick, too old or had wounds/injuries that would never heal. I finally realized they were doing the best they could for the animal, rather than allow it to suffer for long periods of time, they shot it to relieve it any more pain. As hard as it was for me to understand as a child, I finally did - it was the humane thing to do.

On the other hand, I saw animals either shot, cut or their necks rung while being slaughtered for food. It didn’t matter the suffering in these cases. But, I understood, what had to be done had to be done. That was then, this is now, in this modern world, there is no rhyme nor reason to allow unnecessary suffering of animals, even the ones we use as food - at least not in the slaughtering process. For the second time this year, the federal government has failed to stop a man infected with a dangerous strain of tuberculosis from traveling to and within the U.S.

U.S. officials this spring were unable to catch a Mexican man infected with the disease because the doctor treating the man did not know his real name, according to an official who was briefed on the incident but requested anonymity because the official was not authorized to discuss it publicly.

The Mexican national traveled to the United States 76 times in the past year, even though Mexican and U.S. authorities knew he was infected with a contagious strain of tuberculosis. However, the Mexican clinic that had been treating the man, which is affiliated with the Texas Health department, unknowingly provided a fake name to U.S. authorities, the official said. The Washington Times first reported the episode in Thursday’s editions.

The man crossed the U.S. border 21 times between April 16 and May 31. However, the man used his real name and real travel documents when traveling, according to Customs and Border Protection spokesman Michael Friel. The Centers for Disease Control would not provide the man’s real or fake names for privacy reasons.

Customs officials sent out a nationwide alert to look for this man on April 16, but officials were not able to catch him, because the alert was for the man’s fake name, Friel said.

On April 17, when Customs officials had not had any luck finding the man, they suspected they had the wrong information and alerted health officials. On May 31, the Mexican man revealed his real identity to his doctor in Mexico, according to the official.

During the same time period, U.S. officials were dealing with another man infected with tuberculosis, who also was able to travel, despite warnings.

In May an Atlanta lawyer, Andrew Speaker, was able to fly from Atlanta to Europe for his wedding and honeymoon, despite warnings from public health officials. Once he was in Europe, the CDC determined that Speaker could not be transported back to the United States because the agency did not have the equipment to safely do so for a flight longer than eight hours.

The CDC asked TSA at the time to place Speaker on its “no-fly” list so he could not re-enter the country. But there was a four-hour delay between the request and the listing. Speaker got back into the U.S. through Canada, despite instructions to Customs and Border Patrol officers not to allow him in. The 18-year veteran inspector who ignored the warning has retired.

The Mexican man had been infected with tuberculosis for five years, but was being treated under a different name, according to the official who requested anonymity. Homeland Security officials have confirmed that the man is currently living in his home in Juarez, Mexico.

A 15-year-old girl that was arrested in connection with an armed home invasion in July which resulted in the deaths of two men, is facing two additional felony charges. She will be tried as an adult.

Detectives with the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit filed two charges of robbery with a firearm resulting in a death against Trisha Leigh Wofford Thursday.

She is already facing an armed home invasion robbery charge.

She will have her first appearance on the new charges Friday.

Victims Cristobal Perez Rodriguez, 24, and Jose Manuel Lopez-Rodriguez, 22, were found dead in their Mobile Gardens trailer at 137 Via Madonna in Englewood on July 23rd.

There are four other suspects in the case and their charges are listed below.

• Felton Joseph Stevens, 17, of Venice -two counts of second degree murder

• Tristan Anthony Hampton, 18, of Venice -two counts of second degree murder, robbery with a firearm involving death

• Mason Adam Washington, 31, of Venice -two counts of second degree murder, robbery with a firearm involving death

• Danielle Stephanie Williamson, 18, of Englewood -two counts of murder while engaged in a felony offense

Metropolitan Police: Operation Full Stride

WASHINGTON, DC — If you see more police on foot in your neighbotood today, they are part of Operation Full Stride.

D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier and Mayor Adrian Fenty kicked off the new foot patrol program yesterday. It goes into effect today bringing over 200 police officers to the streets. This is exactly what neighbors call for at every community meeting.

Just two weeks ago, there were four shootings that left one teen dead and a few days later, four shootings within one hour left another teen dead. This made the chief take action. She says all of the officers vounteered for the program, so she knows she has the right people for the job.

The foot officers will be passing out calling cards so the neighbors will know them on a first name basis.

Chief Lanier says, “The officers will be wearing out some shoe leather.”

Tacit warning to Iranian government suggests staged event may be used to ensure “bombs fall on your head”

Council on Foreign Relations member Gary Hart, famed for stating that Americans will die en- mass on home soil this century, and for declaring 48 hours after 9/11 that it should be used “to carry out a new world order”, has written a scathing letter to the leaders of Iran clearly warning that the U.S. government has a history of staging provocations in order to initiate conflict with other nations and that Iran could be next.

Hart references the sinking of the USS Maine in Havana harbor in 1898, which led to the Spanish American war, as well as the Gulf of Tonkin incident, which was ultimately the catalyst for airstrikes on Vietnam.

Why does Hart reference these two cases? Because they are both examples of staged managed events that were used to coerce the American public into supporting war.

The sinking of the Maine was immediately blamed on the Spanish, with the innovator of yellow journalism William Randolph-Hearst enflaming anti-Spanish sentiment in his papers by definitively claiming that it was a Spanish plot. No reliable evidence was ever produced linking Spain to the event and it is now widely believed that the event was at best a mechanical failure or at worst a false flag operation.

Similarly the Gulf of Tonkin incident saw President Johnson accuse North Vietnamese PT boats of attacking strike carries in the gulf, the USS Maddox and the USS Turner Joy. Documents and tapes released via the Freedom of Information Act have since shown that Johnson knew that there were no PT boats and no attacks, but still went ahead with lying to the American public on national TV to garner support for escalating the war in Vietnam. Johnson also had the NSA fake intelligence data to make it appear as if the two US ships had been lost.

Four black males charged after violent rampage against assistant principal and four coaches.

According to sheriff officials, DeJesus is charged with assault on a school official, inciting a riot and resisting arrest. His bond was set at $1,500.

His accomplices, 16-year old Anthony Dranell Dickerson and 16-year old Davon Demtrice Nowell and 17-year old Michael Pinkney Draper have been charged with inciting a riot and resisting arrest. All three have received bonds of $1,000 each and released from the Cumberland County Detention Center.

Paramedics treated the school officials, who according to a witness, were “bleeding because they had been punched or scratched by the students.” The school is only 30 miles from were the Emily Haddock, a twelve year old girl, was murdered by three teenage black thugs just days ago.

As Delaware State University students returned to classes Monday for the first time since a shooting early Friday, freshman Loyer D. Braden was in a Dover courtroom facing charges he fired a gun in retaliation for someone spitting in his face.

Escorted to his arraignment in handcuffs, Braden, 18, said, “I’m sorry,” to a crowd of reporters.

Asked why, he replied, “She’s in the hospital.”

Two 17-year-old students — Shalita Middleton and Nathaniel Pugh, both of Washington, D.C. — were wounded during the incident, allegedly sparked by a fight earlier in the week between Braden and an unidentified student, who, with his lip bleeding, spit in Braden’s face. When Braden saw the student late Thursday, a second argument broke out, leading to the shooting, according to court documents.

Middleton was struck twice in the stomach and was in serious condition at Christiana Hospital. Pugh, who was struck in the ankle, was treated at Kent General Hospital.

News that Braden, of East Orange, N.J., was arrested at 3:30 a.m. Monday in his dorm room at 307 Conwell Hall left some students questioning administrators’ assurances throughout the weekend that the shooter had left the campus.

Court documents and a news conference at DSU after the arrest left that question unanswered.

Asked whether Braden had spent the weekend on campus, DSU Police Chief James Overton replied, “No, he did not.”

Asked when Braden returned to his dorm room or how he got back onto campus, Overton responded, “I can’t go into that right now.”

Braden was charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and reckless endangering.

Braden was committed to Delaware Correctional Center near Smyrna on $75,000 bail.

Overton said the investigation remains open, and that other “persons of interest” remain to be questioned. He did not rule out the possibility of further arrests. University officials did not say whether Braden was one of the two students questioned Friday and later released.

Spitting incident

The shootings fueled talk of a “turf war” between students from Washington and New Jersey. Court documents did not address any rivalry.

According to court documents, Braden was angry because someone spit in his face during a fight earlier in the week.

The previous fight occurred Tuesday in a parking lot on the Dover campus. During that fight, an unidentified male was cut under his lip and spit saliva mixed with blood in Braden’s face, a university police investigator wrote in an arrest warrant.

Braden “did not want to let the [previous] altercation stand,” the warrant said.

Israeli rabbis to shun Christian event

JERUSALEM - Israeli rabbinic authorities have abruptly called on Jews to shun a major Christian tourism event. And that’s baffling evangelical groups that traditionally have been big supporters of the Jewish state.

The International Christian Embassy Jerusalem says more than 6,000 Christians from over 90 nations are expected to arrive in Jerusalem this week to take part in the 28th annual Christian celebration of the Jewish holiday Sukkot.

But last week, the chief rabbinate urged Jews to stay away from the event. It claims some of the groups want to convert them to Christianity. But the head of the organizing group says it’s never conducted missionary
programs in Israel.
There’s been a growing alliance in recent years between right-wing Israeli groups and some evangelical Christians who believe Jews must return to the biblical Land of Israel to facilitate a Second Coming of Christ.

Sergio Torecilla attempted to kill his ho execution style but the first gun was not loaded

According to investigators, Torecilla then ordered the woman to get on her knees, then pulled the revolver’s trigger five times. But the gun was not loaded.

Deputies think Torecilla then forced the woman back inside the house, grabbed a 9mm handgun, forced the woman back out to the barn, and aimed at her.

Officers say a car then drove up, and distracted Torecilla as she shot. The shot missed the woman, and Torecilla ran off.

Bedford County investigators have issued the following warrant for Sergio Torecilla:

1. 1 count of Breaking and Entering with the Intent to commit Murder

2. 1 count of Abduction

3. 1 count of Attempted Murder

4. 1 count of Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony (Attempted Murder)

5. 2 counts of Larceny of a Firearm
