D.A.: Rape of elderly woman led to her death

The Bossier Parish grand jury today charged a Benton man with the murder of a nursing home patient, saying the injuries she sustained when she was raped led to her death.

Derrick Walker, 31, was indicted for first-degree murder of Emma Broghan, 89.

District Attorney Schuyler Marvin said Broghan, who suffered from dementia and was a resident of a Bossier City facility, was taken to the hospital this past October after she started bleeding. An examination determined she had been raped, Marvin said.

Broghan died nine days later. An autopsy concluded Broghan died of pneumonia, but Marvin said there is medical evidence that would prove her condition “was aggravated by the trauma of being raped.”

At the time of Broghan’s death, Walker — who police said had a relative living at the nursing home — had just been arrested for exposing himself to Broghan’s next-door neighbor at the nursing home. Police then began investigating him for rape.

Marvin said Walker had a sexual attraction to elderly [White woman] and brought a condom to the nursing home.

The district attorney said he has not decided whether to seek the death penalty, which could apply in this case because of the age of the victim.

Walker has not been arraigned on the murder charge. He is expected to enter a not-guilty plea in the next few days.

Lamont Hunter is sitting on Ohio’s death row for torturing and killing his girlfriend’s 3-year-old son while baby-sitting the toddler in early 2006.

But Trustin Blue‘s mother faces charges of her own Monday in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court.

Luzmilda Blue, 31, goes to trial for child endangering.

She is accused of failing to protect her son.

Prosecutors say she knew Hunter abused Trustin when she left him alone with the boy and their infant daughter and went to work the morning of Jan. 19, 2006.

The next time she saw her son, he lay dying on her couch, suffering from multiple injuries, including severe head trauma and anal tears.

“I think she made a choice of herself over her kid,” Assistant Hamilton County Prosecutor Seth Tieger said. “In our opinion, she knew Hunter tortured and abused Trustin, and still on the day in question left Trustin in his care.”

Others would have gladly watched the toddler, Tieger said.

A panel of three Hamilton County Common Pleas judges convicted Hunter, 39, of aggravated murder, rape and child endangering. The judges sentenced Hunter to death.

Blue’s lawyer, Barry Levy, did not return a phone call for comment.

“I will never forget the brutality of this case as long as I live,” said Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Ralph “Ted” Winkler at Hunter’s sentencing.

For more than a week, judges heard testimony about the abuse Trustin suffered.

He was abused twice in 2004, with Hamilton County Department of Job and Family Services intervening after the tot turned up with injuries the second time.

In that case, he suffered injuries to his leg and penis while alone with Hunter.

The agency removed Trustin from Blue’s care for a year, but once she took parenting classes and complied with other orders, Trustin was sent home.

Blue has been free on bond since shortly after her arrest the week after Trustin’s death.

As her case has weaved through the criminal system – stalled while waiting for Hunter’s case to move forward first – a Hamilton County Juvenile Court magistrate took her three other children away, placing them with relatives.

Blue retained supervised visitation rights.

The two niggers below were both charged with the crime, and both were convicted in the callous kidnapping, robbery, rape and unnecessary murder of 17 year old Brittney Willis. This “confession” led the NAACP to cry racism while demanding that James Johnson be set free. After serving three years of his sentence, his charges were reduced, and per NAACP demands, he was set free. He is yet awaiting trial on “after the fact” crimes concerning the case while the other nigger, Kenneth Meeks, is serving a life sentence.

Man Arrested Near Day Care – Woman: Man In Bathrobe Slathered In Baby Oil, Exposed Himself

Police said a mother found a man covered in baby oil exposing himself outside a church day care near East 25th Street and Paseo Boulevard.

Larry Booker, 53, of Kansas City, was charged with sexual misconduct Tuesday night.

On Monday morning, a parent said she had just dropped her child off at the church day care. The mother said that as she made a left turn onto East 26th Street and Vine Boulevard, she saw a man standing near a Ford Bronco.

The woman said the man was wearing a short robe with no pants. She said he was exposing himself.

The woman told police the man had been doing this to parents as they drop their children off at Paseo Baptist since mid-December.

Police said that when they stopped Larry Booker in the Ford Bronco, he was wearing pajama bottoms under a robe and was covered in baby oil from head to toe.

Pastor Charles Briscoe of the Paseo Baptist Church said, “He needs some help, but he needs to be restrained so that this doesn’t happen again.”

Booker denies that he exposed himself. He told police he was working on his car and his clothes got soiled, so he changed into the robe and pajamas.

Booker was convicted of lewd and lascivious behavior in Johnson County in 2006 and sentenced to six months in jail.

Sparta Doctor Faces Criminal Charges

SPARTA, Ill. – The Randolph County State’s Attorney’s office investigates a southern Illinois doctor after a female employee at the Sparta Community Hospital claims that Dr. Frantz Charles sexually assaulted her.

The allegations stem from an incident that allegedly happened at the hospital on the morning of December 29th. The Sparta Police Department arrested Dr. Charles a couple of days later, and he posted a $1000 bond.

But, now some folks in the community want to see the doctor fired if he’s found guilty.

“Well I think they should fire him. It’s pretty sick that somebody’s doing that. That is in the health industry and that you place your well-being in their hands,” said Joyce Wagoner of Sparta.

The CEO of the hospital, Joann Empe, issued this statement, “Dr. Frantz Charles, General Surgeon at Sparta Community Hospital has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation.”

“Well I guess on allegations such as that, that would be the only thing you could do right off the bat,” said Dana Weber of Sparta.

Dr. Frantz Charles began working at the Sparta Community Hospital in June 2003. But, now he faces criminal charges of Sexual Abuse, Unlawful Restraint and Misdemeanor Battery.

Doctor Denies Charges that he Fondled Hospital Worker

SPARTA, Ill. (AP) – A southern Illinois surgeon placed on leave after being accused of fondling a hospital worker says he’s innocent.

Randolph County prosecutors on Monday charged 61-year-old Sparta Community Hospital doctor Frantz Charles with unlawful restraint, battery and criminal sexual abuse.

He’s free on $1,000 cash bond.

Charles is accused of detaining a part-time female employee last month by pulling her into the men’s locker room at the hospital and forcing her against a wall where he fondled her.

But Charles says he merely sought to give the woman a hug after having not seen her for about six months.

Charlotte Man Jailed on Child Porn Charges

A Charlotte man who has been convicted on multiple child pornography charges is heading to prison.

27-year-old Marques Bynum has been sentenced to 16-years behind bars.

FBI agents found about 5,000 images of child pornography on his laptop as well as evidence linking him to an online group where such images were shown.

A 15-year-old monkey-boy was behind bars Thursday morning for raping and robbing a woman just outside her apartment complex.

Police said it wasn’t his first run-in with the law. They said Benjamin Williams attacked his victim in the Timbersound apartments on Raleigh Street.

Williams is accused of hitting the woman over the head in the parking lot and then robbed and raped her. A neighbor heard the commotion and called the police.

Detectives said Williams has a long criminal history and started committing crimes five years ago.

“He was involved with law enforcement at the age of ten and he’s had some robbery charges and now he’s facing very serious charge of sexual battery,” said Sgt. Barb Jones of the Orlando Police Department.

The State Attorney’s Office will determine whether or not Williams is charged as an adult.

An ape-man was arrested on rape charges after the victim awoke from a coma and identified him from a photograph lineup, according to Orange County sheriff’s deputies.

Alphonso Benjamin, 26, was arrested Wednesday night in connection with the rape of a woman inside her Orange County home Dec. 13.

The victim was caring for her elderly mother when she was attacked, deputies said.

The victim remains hospitalized after nearly being killed in the attack, according to Orange County sheriff’s deputies.

Benjamin was charged with raping an elderly woman in 2005, but the charges were dropped because the victim died before she could testify against him.

Orange County deputies credit a rape victim for helping them to catch her attacker.

Wednesday night, investigators arrested Alphonso Benjamin, Jr. They said his 57-year-old victim, who had been in a coma since the December 13 attack, woke up and was able to identify him in a photo line-up.

In 2005, Benjamin was charged with raping a 76-year-old woman, but she died before she could testify against him.

“Obviously this guy was very dangerous, so we’re glad we got him off the street today,” said Sgt. Richard Mankewich of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

A youth pastor at Bible Way Church has been charged with performing sex acts on a 14-year old girl three separate times. Investigators say 36-year-old Falcon Davis worked at the Augusta church for 2 years.

They say Davis confessed to the crimes. He is now in jail awaiting a bond hearing.

Investigators took him into custody after the girls mother called the Sheriff’s Department this weekend. During the investigation they found 37 pages of Yahoo! Messages between Davis and the teenager. Many of them were sexual in nature.

And investigators say the teen eventually told them that Davis came to her house to perform oral sex on her.

They say this case serves as a warning to parents.

“Monitor what your children do, because in all honesty you don’t know who they’re talking to. It could be a child, or an adult who is a predator of some sort,” said Richmond County investigator Earnest Furgeison.

Young people from age five all the way up to 18 are involved in the youth program at Bible Way.

CENTENNIAL, Colo. ― The music director for Heritage Christian Center appeared in court Monday morning for an advisement hearing on sexual assault charges.

James Howard Brown, 38, was arrested last Thursday at his Arapahoe County home. Investigators said he’s accused of assaulting a teenaged family member.

Brown is charged with sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust.

He’s being held on $50,000 bond.

Brown is due back in court Jan. 3 for formal filing of charges.

Police: Man Dragged Woman Into Home, Beat, Raped Her

An Orange County man was jailed Monday for allegedly beating and raping a woman while hiding in an abandoned home. The woman was attacked in Tangelo Park, not far from International Drive.

The victim knew her attacker but said she didn’t know that man was about to attack her as she was walking along the street in Tangelo Park. She said he dragged her to a vacant house where she says she was beaten and raped for nearly 45 minutes.

Michael Grady, 43, told a much different story than the 61-year-old woman who’s accusing him of rape.

“We were just hanging out together, so how could it come out to be rape?’” Grady questioned as police let him away in cuffs.

Detectives said Grady not only raped the woman, but beat her so badly one of her eyes was swollen shut. She said she was walking home from a party in Tangelo Park around 6:00am Monday when Grady grabbed her from behind, dragged her to an abandoned house and sexually assaulted her. She said he threatened to kill her if she told anyone.

“It’s a brutal crime and I think it’s a sin and a shame,” said neighbor Estelle Davis.

Davis said she knows of the victim and Grady and worries the same thing could’ve happened to her.

“You don’t know who to trust,” she said.

“I don’t believe he did that, I really don’t,” Grady’s mother told Eyewitness News.

She said she still doesn’t know what happened. Grady told investigators the woman agreed to go to the vacant house, but couldn’t explain how she was beaten.

Investigators gave Grady a white jumpsuit after taking his clothes as evidence, including a pair of bloody socks.

Grady has been in and out of prison since 1989 for a variety of crimes, including drugs and grand theft. He’s being held in the Orange County jail on a charge of sexual battery.

Hemet police arrest suspect in rapes at senior housing complex

Police arrested a suspect in three rapes Friday shortly after a break-in was attempted at an apartment in a Hemet senior-citizen housing complex.

Kenneth Daniels Jr., 21, of San Jacinto, was taken into custody shortly after 1:30 a.m. near the Oak Terrace Senior Apartments off North Santa Fe Street. He is suspected of attacking and raping two female residents — including one found dead from her injuries earlier this month — in the Hemet apartment complex.

“We’re confident that we have the right guy and the community can take a deep breath now,” said Hemet police Lt. Jeff Pinney.

He said a 63-year-old woman who was assaulted in August and again in October has identified Daniels as the attacker. Other evidence, which Pinney declined to detail because the investigation is ongoing, also pointed to the man, according to Pinney.

In an earlier interview, the police lieutenant said DNA evidence had been collected at the previous crime scenes.

The last attack, which occurred earlier this month, was on a 74-year-old woman who used a wheelchair. Officers found her dead Dec. 11. Police say her death was related to the attack, but the coroner’s office has not officially ruled it a homicide.

Pinney said the attacker preyed on Oak Terrace complex residents who had left doors or windows unlocked. On Thursday, Hemet police released surveillance videos.

The release of the videos generated more than a half-dozen tips, but police had not yet listened to them when Daniels was arrested.

Early Friday morning, undercover police officers saw a man who matched the description of the person on the videos jump over the wrought-iron fence that surrounds the complex, according to a Hemet Police Department news release. A short time later, a police dispatcher received a call from a female resident, who said someone was trying to break into her apartment through a partially open window.

Officers quickly responded and saw a man exit the complex through a gate and walk rapidly away. Police ordered the man to stop, but he fled, the release said.

Daniels was arrested nearby after a brief struggle with officers, the release said.

A trucker and an alleged prostitute fought on a Nashville highway.

She shot him and he cut her with a boxcutter.

Rutherford County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the incident that started at a Nashville truck stop.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a tractor trailer accident early Wednesday morning.

But they discovered that it also involved a shooting, violence and sex.

“She began telling deputies she’s been attacked by the driver of tractor trailer,” said detective Sgt. Dan Goodwin.

A woman, police called a prostitute, said Otis Miles picked her up at a TravelCenters of America truck stop.

The woman said Miles tried to rape her, while he told investigators that he protected himself from her attack, Goodwin said.

The woman, whose name was not released, said Miles attacked her with a box cutter and tire iron. She then grabbed his gun from the cab of the truck and shot.

“The woman had multiple cuts on her body as well as a broken arm,” Goodwin said.

This is a case of “she said – it said” and I find her more credible than it – hang the boon and be done with it. BTW, WTF was the jig doing driving that big rig? Niggers can’t drive, sheeesh!

Investigators Have DNA Match In Trimble Murder Case

There is a major development Monday night in one of Nashville’s biggest murder mysteries.

NewsChannel 5 has learned investigators have a DNA match in the Marcia Trimble case. The match appears to link Jerome Barrett of Memphis to the crime.

Metro police have been investigating whether Barrett killed the 9-year old Nashville girl more than 32-years ago.

Barrett was arrested last month and charged in the 1975 rape and murder of a Vanderbilt University student.

He has not been charged in the Trimble case. Marcia’s mother toells NewsChannel 5 she has not been officially notified of a match in the case.

Because it is only a possible DNA match, the full case file has been sent to the Federal Bureau of Investigation for more complete testing.

A police officer who was fired from his job three years ago and eventually reinstated was arrested Wednesday for sexually assaulting a teenager he was investigating, authorities said.

Dwight Toombs was responding to a report that a 15-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man were having intercourse in a vehicle at Kimberly Bergalis Memorial Park on Dec. 18. Toombs, 33, handcuffed the man and the teen and fondled the girl, a complaint affidavit said.

Toombs has been charged with three felony counts of sexual battery on a person 12 years of age or older by a government agent and three felony counts of lewd and lascivious battery. He was being held at St. Lucie County jail on $900,000 bond.

“It’s disturbing,” Police Chief R. Sean Baldwin said. “It’s painful. It hurts. It’s embarrassing for the department. We work so hard to gain and maintain the public’s trust and to have an incident like this tears away at that. It’s hard on me and it’s hard on every officer that works here.”

Toombs, who was placed on administrative leave with pay Dec. 20., will remain on paid leave pending the review of an administrative investigation, according to a department press release.

The officer was fired by a previous police chief in 2004 after an internal investigation found he struck an 11-year-old child with a belt. City Manager Dennis Beach reinstated Toombs.

Death penalty sought in killing

CARTHAGE — Four of the five people accused of murdering Emily Haddock will face the death penalty, a Moore County assistant district attorney said Tuesday.

In October, Moore County Assistant District Attorney Peter Strickland filed paperwork asking for a Rule 24 conference. The conference notified the court, the defendants and defense lawyers that his office would be trying Michael Graham Currie, Ryan Jermar White, Perry Ross Schiro and Sherrod Nicholas Harrison for capital first-degree murder.

Moore County sheriff’s deputies believe those four men and Van Rogers Smith Jr. broke into Haddock’s home near Cameron on Sept. 21 by kicking in the back door.

Haddock, who was 12, was home sick with strep throat. She was shot once in the mouth and once in the back of the head with a .22-caliber handgun during the break-in, according to police and autopsy reports.

Her grandfather found Haddock dead about 1:30 p.m. when he came to check on her.

Last week, a Rule 24 conference was held for Currie, who is 18. Superior Court Judge James Webb granted Strickland’s request.

Strickland said similar conferences will be held Jan. 7 for White and Harrison, who are both 19, and Schiro, 20.

If any of the defendants are found not guilty of first-degree murder, the death penalty cannot be invoked.

Smith, 16, cannot be tried for a capital offense because he is not 18, Strickland said. The district attorney’s office, however, will be trying him as an adult, Strickland said.

When asked why the district attorney’s office chose to seek the death penalty, Strickland said, “Because of the evidence we have reviewed and the aggravating circumstances that exist because of the evidence. In her discretion, Miss (Maureen) Krueger felt capital murder would be appropriate for the jury to consider.”

Krueger is the district attorney for Moore County.

Schiro, one of the four who is facing the death penalty, was originally charged in September with burglary, larceny and possession of stolen property. Deputies said then that they didn’t believe he was at the Haddock home during the murder and break-in.

Schiro’s lawyer, Vincent Frank Rabil, filed a motion Nov. 30 asking for the conference to be continued. Rabil alleges that Schiro wasn’t at the crime scene.

No ruling was issued as of Tuesday.

All five defendants were indicted by a Moore County grand jury Oct. 15.

Harrison and Smith were moved to Central Prison in Raleigh on Sept. 27 for safekeeping, according to court documents.

The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Detectives arrested Raymond Bernard Moore and Curtis Antonio James this past Friday.

Moore is charged with two counts of Statutory Rape/Sex Offense and one count of Indecent Liberties with a Child and is under a $50,000 secured bond.

James is charged with five counts of Statutory Rape/Sex Offense and is under a $1,000,000 bond.

Both individuals are from Wilmington are still in the New Hanover County Detention Facility awaiting their court dates.

Due to the nature of the charges and the age of the victim, her name is being withheld at this time.

Brutal Christmas Eve Crime Shocks Omaha – Shocked? Omaha’s not used to niggers yet?

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) ― A man killed two women and left their bodies in the basement of a house, then beat and raped the daughter of one of the victims in the same home, authorities and a relative of the victims said.

Fabian Hands, 46, was booked on two counts of homicide and two counts of use of a weapon to commit a felony.

Officers were called to the house in north Omaha Monday night. When they arrived, a 20-year-old woman came out of a bedroom and said she had been sexually assaulted. Hands followed her out of the bedroom and assaulted her in front of officers, according to a police report. Officers subdued him and took him into custody.

Police found the bodies of the woman’s 36-year-old mother and 48-year-old aunt in the basement during a search of the house, authorities said. Paramedics pronounced the women dead at the scene.

The woman who reported she had been sexually assaulted was taken to a hospital.

The cousin of the assault victim told Omaha television station KMTV that Hands was the 36-year-old woman’s boyfriend. The cousin said the 20-year-old told police that she was beaten and raped after Hands killed her mom and aunt.

Police have not said how the women were killed, but the cousin said they were shot. It wasn’t immediately known how long their bodies had been in the basement, who was living in the house, who had called police or whether additional charges would be filed against Hands.

Denver woman, 61, raped, left for dead

A Denver man was charged with murder Thursday in the rape of a 61-year-old woman who was left outside on the coldest night of the season and later died.

Residents who heard Judith Pyle’s cries for help in the early-

morning hours of Dec. 9 called police, who found her behind a Dumpster in an alley at East 35th Avenue and Clayton Street.

Pyle, whose poor health hindered movement, had been beaten and was unable to pull herself off the ground, or even put on her coat and pull up her pants — her belt and one of her boots also had been removed.

She had been out in the cold for about two hours before being found, according to an arrest affidavit, and died about four hours later at Denver Health Medical Center.

Temperatures at Denver International Airport dipped to zero that day, according to the National Weather Service.

Police find San Jose woman’s body

DISCOVERY IN MILPITAS LANDFILL BRINGS FAMILY MEASURE OF PEACE

The news they dreaded, but were relieved to finally hear, came on Wednesday for the grief-stricken family of 35-year-old Lisa Nguyen. Searchers found the woman’s body at a Milpitas landfill in the early afternoon.

San Jose police and workers at the Newby Island Landfill had spent nearly seven days scouring layers of refuse from daybreak to nightfall. Nguyen went missing on Dec. 8 after failing to return home as she’d promised, her family said. She apparently set out to go to dinner and a movie.

“We are mourning, but we are relieved to have her back with us,” Nguyen’s sister, Jennie Nguyen, said Wednesday in a brief statement on behalf of the family.

The family expressed gratitude to all who assisted in the search for her, especially to the San Jose Police Department’s Homicide Unit and Detectives Michael Knox and John Seaman, “for their untiring work to bring Lisa back to us. Lisa is back with us, and now her soul is in peace.”

Jennie Nguyen said her family and friends of her sister have sponsored a Christmas tree in her name at San Jose’s Christmas in the Park. It is tree No. 505.

“Lisa loved Christmas,” Jennie Nguyen said. “We got her the tree so that her loved ones can put up an ornament in her memory.”

San Jose police officer Jermaine Thomas would not go into details about why authorities focused their search on that location. Workers searching the landfill used a grid map of the site, which methodically lays out where refuse comes from and is dumped.

Anthony Davis Evans, 45, who was Nguyen’s personal trainer at Fitness USA in Milpitas, was taken into custody Dec. 12 and faces first-degree murder charges in her death. Evans, who is being held without bail, is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday in Santa Clara County Superior Court.

Authorities allege he bludgeoned the 35-year-old Nguyen to death with a metal bar inside his San Jose apartment. Investigators say they found blood on the rug in Evans’ bedroom and a bag containing blood-splattered clothing and bedding in his car.

Police located Evans at a motel near his apartment. When he was first questioned by police, he denied knowing Nguyen.

When Nguyen, the program manager at Radicati Group in Palo Alto, failed to show up at work on Dec. 10, her family and friends grew fearful.

Cary Police Charge Babysitter With Rape

Cary — Cary police have charged a babysitter with statutory rape.

Alecya Tabb, 17, is accused of raping a 7-year-old boy in her care.

The alleged rape happened at the boy’s house, police said.

A Headland teenigger has surrendered to police, who were looking for him in connection with a burglary and sexual assault which occured last week.

Andrevis Deon Davis, 18, of Terrace Drive in Headland, turned himself in Monday to face charges of burglary, rape, sodomy, and sexual abuse, according to Headland police.

Authorities say Davis used a hammer to break into a home where he sexually assaulted a child older than 12, but younger than 16. Three other children were in the home at the time, but were forced into a back room while the sexual attack occured.

Davis is being held in the Henry County Jail on bonds totaling $190,000.

Mother Faces Drug Charges After Daughter’s Death

The mother of 14-year-old murder victim Ebony Dorsey has now been charged with drug offenses and endangering the welfare of her children.

Danielle Cattie, 34, of Ambler, Pa., turned herself in to authorities on Wednesday to face the charges — the most serious being the felony endangerment charge.

Prosecutors said Cattie has a long history of drug use with murder suspect Mark O’Donnell while her children are in the house, and First Assistant D.A. Risa Ferman said Cattie and O’Donnell were snorting cocaine the weekend that teenage honors student Ebony Dorsey was killed.

“And at the time that Ms. Cattie believed O’Donnell was under the influence, she allowed him to take her 14-year-old child in a car, drive her under the influence to his residence, and then he ultimately left with the child, we believe, sexually assaulted and murdered her,” Ferman said.

Ferman said they found out about the drug use when Cattie provided key information to police that led them to O’Donnell.

Ferman said she understands that Cattie is going through a tough time and is remorseful, but they need to protect her other two children:

“I really credit her for being cooperative with the police and ignoring her own personal interests and her rights not to said anything, and providing information to the police that allowed them to find the killer.”

Ferman said all that will be taken into consideration as the case moves forward.

Cattie was released on $10,000 bail.

Teen’s alleged killer hit with rape charge

On what would have been Ebony Dorsey’s 15th birthday, prosecutors yesterday added a felony charge of rape to a laundry list of charges already facing Mark O’Donnell, Ebony’s alleged killer.

Now, O’Donnell will face charges of murder, indecent assault, abuse of corpse and various drug charges to go along with the newly added rape charge.

O’Donnell, protected by a bulletproof vest, waived his preliminary hearing before District Court Judge Francis J. Bernhardt, and was remanded to Montgomery County Prison.

Danielle Cattie, Ebony’s mother, refused to comment to reporters, but O’Donnell’s lawyer, Thomas Egan III, confirmed the charges while speaking about the mental health of his client.

“Mr. O’Donnell did try to harm himself sometime last week, and because of that he is still staying in the medical unit of the Montgomery County facility in Eagleville,” Egan said.

He took issue with the spectacle of O’Donnell’s being led to court in a protective vest.

“It’s unusual for a defendant to be brought in wearing a bulletproof vest, but he was brought in with about 10 to 15 officers and wearing a vest,” Egan said.

“So I’m just speculating, but the detectives may have received some information that there may have been threats on his life.”

Montgomery County Deputy District Attorney Kevin Steele couldn’t be reached for comment on the vest and extra protection by the cops.

O’Donnell is accused of strangling and sexually abusing Ebony sometime early on Dec. 7. The arrest affidavit recounts that Ebony was baby-sitting O’Donnell’s infant daughter at his residence while O’Donnell was smoking crack with Ebony’s mother at her home.

O’Donnell allegedly assaulted and killed Ebony after returning from the cocaine binge. He then stuffed her body into a plastic container, and drove that container to a relative’s house, the affidavit states.

O’Donnell claimed that he had caught Ebony molesting his daughter and that that’s what sent him into his rage.

Cattie responded by labeling O’Donnell a “monster.” *

90-year sentence in teen’s rape, murder

A Columbus man convicted of raping and stabbing to death a 14-year-old girl during a burglary has been sentenced to 90 years in prison.

Demetrick Shepherd, 20, told a Bartholomew Superior Court judge during Friday’s hearing that he plans to appeal his conviction.

A jury convicted him Nov. 1 of murder, rape and burglary in the slaying of Chelsea Porter.

Porter, who attended Central Middle School, was found dead June 29 in an apartment of a family friend in the city about 40 miles south of Indianapolis.

Authorities said Shepherd entered the apartment where she was sleeping to steal some car keys when she awoke and he attacked her, stabbing her 11 times with a butcher knife.

Porter’s father, Raymond Porter, said after Friday’s hearing that he was content with Shepherd’s sentence, but hopes Shepherd’s planned appeal won’t shorten his sentence.

“It still isn’t going to bring my daughter back,” he said, adding, “We’ve still got a lot of grieving to do. It’s going to be hard with Christmas coming up.”

Porter’s family and Bartholomew Superior Court Judge Chris Monroe said Shepherd showed no remorse for killing Porter. They noted that he slouched in his chair throughout the trial and sentencing and seemed uninterested.

“It appears that you are unmoved by what has happened,” Monroe said. “Bottom-line, it sounds like you just don’t care about anyone.”

Police arrested a nurses technician at a mid-state rehabilitation center for allegedly raping a resident.

Records show a Certified Nurses Technician (CNT) named 44-year-old Harvey Eugene Taylor raped a 70-year-old resident at the Madison Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center back in May.

A sex crimes officer and the TBI investigated the incident since it occurred and said the incidnet has not resulted in any othe rsexual misconduct allegations at the facility.

On May 5 the vicitm reported to staff members that Taylor raped her in her room. Emergency officials transported the victim to General Hospital, where a medical exam was performed.

DNA samples taken from her clothes matched Taylor’s DNA.

Taylor repeatedly denied raping the 70-year-old.

Police arrested Taylor Wednesday and charged him with aggravate rape. He is being held in lieu of $175,000 bond.

The cases:

• May 1, 1998: A woman was alone in her Vinca Circle apartment when a man walked through the front door at about 9:30 a.m. The man, who was armed with a handgun, sexually assaulted the woman for more than an hour before running away.

• May 14, 1998: A woman was alone in her apartment at 11 p.m. when a man entered the home via the sliding glass door. The man held her in her in the English Hills Drive apartment for nearly thee hours, physically and sexually assaulting her before running off.

Boyd faces 18 charges, including four counts of first-degree rape and two counts of first-degree kidnapping.

New DNA evidence helps police pinpoint a suspect in the 1978 killing of Sara Beth Lundquist

Sara Beth Lundquist would be well into her 40s by now. The way she loved children, perhaps she’d have a few of her own. Maybe, just as she’d planned, she’d be a nurse.

Though her family will never know what the 15-year-old could have become, they’re finally getting answers about who may have abducted her near a Ballard bus stop and stabbed her to death almost 30 years ago.

Seattle police say DNA evidence now points to Clarence E. Williams, who killed a young woman less than three months later. On Wednesday, King County prosecutors charged him with murdering Lundquist in 1978. He will be arraigned Nov. 7 in King County Superior Court.

“I feel like this is going to be healing. … Having this question answered has got to bring some relief,” said Lundquist’s mother, Lynne Carlson, who still lives in Seattle. “I often thought I might die before I knew.”

Lee Lundquist remembers with “photographic clarity” the day he learned, at age 10, that his big sister wasn’t coming home. He’s always believed her killer would be found. He needed to believe it, he said.

“I’ve known for a long time that finding out who did this to Sara certainly would not make the loss any less severe,” he said. “But knowing would certainly help by reducing the mystery and unknowns surrounding her case.”

Clarence E. Williams was convicted of kidnapping Laura Anne Baylis, 21, from the 7-Eleven where she worked in 1978 and stabbing her to death.

On Tuesday, Detective Mike Ciesynski, who investigates Seattle’s “cold cases,” paid Williams a visit in a Minnesota prison where more than 400 Washington inmates are being housed. The 62-year-old man — who has a chance for parole in less than eight years — insisted he didn’t kill the woman he’s convicted of murdering and had nothing to say about Lundquist’s death, he said.

Ciesynski said he wants to make sure Williams doesn’t kill anyone else.

“Here are two girls who were killed in a similar way, two months apart. They were similar in appearance. Both were abducted,” he said. “It’s my personal belief that a serial murderer will not just stop because he’s 60 years old. Once he’s released, he’ll do it again.”

The ape-man convicted for the 1985 rape and killing of a 28-year-old photographer wept in court Monday as a judge condemned him to a sentence of life without possibility of parole for first-degree murder.

Calling the sentence “entirely appropriate,” Judge Charlotte Walter Woolard addressed the defendant, John Davis, 40, before pronouncing sentence on him in the Dec. 4, 1985, slaying of Barbara Martz.

“This was a very brutal, terrible crime that resulted in the horrible death of a beautiful young woman,” Woolard told Davis, after denying his request not to be present at the sentencing.

Martz was building a career in commercial photography when she returned home from a trip to the store and surprised a burglar.

She was raped, stabbed several times and her throat was slashed. The killer took her purse and wallet, which were later found in a crawlspace at the housing project where Davis lived.

Family and friends thanked the San Francisco police who reopened the case through DNA technology and pledged that Martz’s memory will be kept alive through them.

Davis, who had argued through his attorney that the DNA evidence was flawed, put his hand to his head during much of the sentencing hearing, sometimes weeping as he heard statements made on behalf of the victim from her friends and family.

“John Davis – you are a psychopath,” said a friend who read a statement on behalf of Bobby Adams, Martz’s boyfriend at the time of the slaying who found her body that day.

“Nothing I could say to you would possibly matter or be heard by you,” said the friend, Peter McCandless. “You are a soulless creature without guilt or remorse.”

In the statement read by McCandless, Adams described Martz as “an amazing, vibrant, talented person who cared about correcting the wrongs of this world. Barbara would have made this world a better place.”

Police on Friday said DNA evidence links a man who was fatally shot during a rape investigation to two reported rapes.

The Columbus Police Crime Lab said that the DNA samples taken from two rape victims match the sample taken from Larry Martin.

Martin was shot and killed early Wednesday morning outside a vacant home on Genesee Avenue, 10TV News reported.

Authorities were conducting surveillance in the neighborhood after learning that Martin had arranged a meeting at the home with an escort service, police said.

At about 4 a.m., officers approached Martin to make an arrest, but police said he pulled out a gun, forcing officers to open fire.

Martin died at the scene.

Police said that although Martin has not been linked through DNA to the first reported rape, the assaults were similar.

The crimes remained under investigation.

(Memphis 12/6/2007) Two Shelby County men, a father and his son, are wanted by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

Both men were added to the 10 most wanted list by the TBI Thursday. Winfred Scott and Akeem-Abou Scott are wanted for raping a girl repeatedly over a 5-year period, according to a news release from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. Kristen Helm is with the TBI, “They’ve been on the lamb for a while. The TBI hopes by adding them to the most wanted list, iIt will re-energize the case. They’re hoping now that their pictures are out there, someone will recognize the father and son and turn them in leading to the arrest and in this case. It would be one thousand for each of them.”

The crimes were committed between 1999 and 2004 and began when the victim was 5.

The men are subject to arrest for rape of a child, a felony.

Winfred Scott, 47, is approximately 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighs 300 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.

Akeem-Abou Scott, 24, is also a black male with black hair and brown eyes. He is 6 feet tall and weighs about 250 pounds.

Baseline Killer Suspect Gets 438 Years

PHOENIX (AP) — A man accused of being the Phoenix Baseline Killer was sentenced to 438 years in prison Friday for a brutal attack in which he raped a woman while pointing a pistol at her pregnant sister’s belly.

“It is clear from the record that you cannot function in a civilized society,” Superior Court Judge Andrew Klein told Mark Goudeau, who still faces trial for the slayings of eight women and a man in 2005-2006.

The 43-year-old former construction worker was convicted in September of 19 counts, including sexual assault and kidnapping, for assaulting the sisters in 2005 as they walked home from a park.

The sisters told the jury how Goudeau forced them into the bushes near a road and told them to strip, then raped the younger victim while pointing the gun at the other.

“My daughter was in danger before she was even born,” said the woman who had been pregnant when the attack occurred. Speaking through an interpreter, she said she still wakes up crying sometimes.

“I will hope for him to never get out,” she said.

DNA evidence linked Goudeau to the rape, but he maintained that he was innocent.

“What happened to those two girls was indeed horrible,” he told the judge, “but I had nothing to do with it.”

“This is just another freak show of a hearing where they convicted an innocent man,” Goudeau’s wife, Wendy Carr, said outside the courthouse.

Klein said before handing down the sentence that Goudeau must have two “diametrically opposed” personalities, one calm and respectful in court and the other sociopathic and brutal.

Maricopa County Prosecutors had said earlier that Goudeau faced a maximum of 285 years in prison. But Deputy County Attorney Suzanne Cohen proved a prior violent record in court Friday that made him eligible for the higher sentences.

Goudeau still faces trial on 74 other criminal charges, including nine murder counts, from a crime spree police have attributed to the Baseline Killer, named for the south Phoenix street where many of the early attacks took place. He has pleaded not guilty.

If Goudeau is convicted of murder, County Attorney Andrew Thomas has said he will pursue the death penalty.

A man accused of killing seven women and convicted of one murder was sent to Florida’s death row on Thursday.

Paul Durousseau was convicted in June of the rape and slaying of 24-year-old Tyresa Mack in 1999. The same jury voted 10-2 to recommend the death penalty.

Durousseau’s attorneys argued that his life should be spared because he suffers from brain damage and other mental illnesses that impaired his behavior. But prosecutors said Durousseau was well aware of what he did when he killed the woman and deserved the death penalty.

On Thursday, Judge Jack Schemer formally sentenced Durousseau to death by lethal injection.

“This was a consciously hideous crime,” Schemer said from the bench. “Durousseau is manipulative, devious and crafty.”

Schemer said the brutality of the slaying was among the reasons why he agreed with the jury’s recommendation that Durousseau should die.

Durousseau was arrested in 2003 and is charged in the deaths of Mack and five other women in Duval County. He is also accused of killing a woman in Columbus, Ga., while he was in the Army and stationed at Fort Benning stationed in 1997.

Mack’s family said it has waited eight years to hear their loved one’s killer would die for his crime.

“Thank God it’s all over with. We have a closure. Me and my family, we have been through a lot, including her kids. Thank God it’s finally over with,” said Mack’s sister Latashia Bell, who continues to raise Mack’s three children.

Last month, the State Attorney’s Office dropped the other five murder charges against Durousseau.

Prosecutors were concerned that an acquittal in one of the remaining Jacksonville cases would jeopardize the conviction in the Mack case. Additionally, prosecutors worried an overturned conviction in the Mack case could present problems for the remaining cases.

Durousseau is expected to stand trial in the Georgia slaying. Tracy Habersham’s nude body was found Sept. 7, 1997, two days after a party at a club on base. Police said they believe she was strangled shortly after the party.

A convicted child molester has been charged with the 2003 murder of his girlfriend’s 12-year-old daughter, who had been missing for nearly a month before her body was found behind a riverside hotel.

A Chatham County grand jury Wednesday indicted 31-year-old Bobby Lavon Buckner on charges that he abducted, molested and strangled Ashleigh Moore more than four years ago.

When Ashleigh vanished on April 18, 2003, Buckner was dating her mother and living in their Savannah home. Volunteers searched for the girl for weeks in coastal Georgia and South Carolina before her body was found May 14, 2003, by a man fishing along the Savannah River.

The indictment said Ashleigh had been strangled. It also charged Buckner with molesting her at some point between August 2002 and her death months later.

Buckner was jailed for violating his probation from a 1996 child molestation conviction the day after Ashleigh went missing. A judge revoked his probation and sent Buckner back to prison.

Savannah-Chatham County police Sgt. Armando Tamargo said investigators considered Buckner a suspect from the beginning. As to why it took years to charge him with Ashleigh’s murder, Tamargo said only that the case was “very complex and one which was going to take time to resolve.”

“Right now, we’re confident to go forward with the case,” Tamargo said.

According to court records from 2003, Buckner called Ashleigh’s mother, Michelle Moore, at the hospital where she worked and told her Ashleigh was missing early on the morning of April 18, 2003. Buckner later told police he had been drinking at a strip club the night before.

Police searched Buckner’s car after a cadaver dog smelled blood on its door handle. Investigators seized a box of condoms and some towels from the car as possible evidence.

Buckner’s attorney, Michael Schiavone, questioned whether police have enough evidence to convict Buckner more than four years later.

“We’ve always maintained, and still maintain, that Bobby did not do this,” Schiavone said.

After her daughter went missing, Michelle Moore said she never knew Buckner was a convicted child molester. They met years earlier when Ashleigh’s mother worked at the Chatham County Jail.

RALEIGH — A North Carolina Highway Patrol officer, who is accused of making sexual advances towards women he pulled over while on patrol, turned himself in to face the charges.

Stripped of his badge, his gun and his highway patrol car, a plain-clothed Michael Steele, Jr. walked into the Orange County Courthouse Friday.

Steele’s attorney spoke briefly to Eyewitness News.

“This is simply a first appearance, and we’re here to cooperate with the authorities,” Attorney Clay Plunkett said. “We understand there are some warrants. He’s here to turn himself in.”

The 28-year-old former officer faced a judge in handcuffs. Prosecutors say on three occasions in August, Steele pulled over women he believed were Hispanic immigrants.

He is accused of ordering the women out of their cars and driving them around Orange County. During the drive, authorities say he made sexual advances toward them.

“We thought this was a situation that was serious enough it warranted moving it directly to superior court,” Orange County District Attorney Jim Woodall said. “And we did it with sealed indictments because we wanted to get the defendant under arrest as soon as we could.”

As Steele’s wife and his father looked on, the prosecution read the list of charges. The charges include kidnapping, sexual battery, assault on a female and extortion.

Prosecutors say Steele even threatened to kill the family of one of his victims if she didn’t call him on a later date. Steele was a highway patrol officer for nearly four years and resigned from the force in September.

His bail is set at $250,000. The judge ordered him to have no contact with the victims.

South Africa’s tougher laws on rape to go into effect
CAPE TOWN – After a protracted delay, tough new laws against sexual abuse will finally enter force Sunday in South Africa, which is often called the “rape capital” of the world.

The Justice Ministry said Friday that the Sexual Offenses Amendment Act would help the country “fight the scourge of sexual offenses head-on” and would at last give greater protection to victims of sexual crimes.

For the first time, victims will be able to go to court to force their attackers to take AIDS tests. An estimated 5.4 million South Africans are infected with HIV – the highest number of any country in the world.

More than 50,000 rape cases were reported last year, almost 150 per day. Based on reported cases alone, South Africa has 114 rapes per 100,000 people, compared with a rate of 32 rapes per 100,000 in the United States, according to police figures. Women’s rights groups estimate that only one in nine rapes is reported to police.

The definition of rape was until now narrow and outdated. Attacks on children, for instance, were often classified as indecent assault, not rape – even though the young are often targeted because of the mistaken belief that sex with a child can rid the body of the HIV virus.

The new law says that sexual penetration by objects other than a penis would be classed as rape – which usually is punished with a life sentence – rather than sexual assault, for which there are lesser sentences. For the first time, male-on-male sexual assault is classed as rape.

The new law introduces tougher measures to protect children and the mentally disabled from sexual exploitation and child pornography. It would also set up a register of sexual offenders so that schools and other institutions dealing with children could vet candidates for jobs.

The bill was approved by parliament before it went into recess last month after being held up for more than a year because of technical legal problems over the clauses about compulsory HIV tests for sexual offenders.

The revised legislation said all victims should be entitled to apply for a court order to compel the alleged sex offender to take an AIDS test, and should get free medication immediately after the rape to reduce the risks of contracting the virus. Given the delay in HIV infection showing up in tests, many women currently face weeks of agonized uncertainty over whether their attacker carried the deadly virus.

The provisions on AIDS testing will take effect in March because of the legal complexities involved, the Justice Ministry said.

Rape is a sickening and despicable act – It’s only logical a nation overflowing with sickening and despicable creatures would hold the title of such depravity. Police have arrested a Minnesota man on a murder charge stemming from a Tampa woman’s death four years ago.

Tampa Police Department Detective Eric Houston identified Michael Lord Owens as a suspect in Dorothy Mink’s death after it was deemed his fingerprints were the ones found on a bottle of Sutter Home wine in her South Tampa apartment, Houston said.

In November, the department’s Cold Case Squad put more emphasis on solving the case. The fingerprints were resubmitted to the Automated Fingerprint Identification System, Houston said.

Owens’ name turned up. After police got a search warrant for Owens’ DNA, his mouth was swabbed to obtain a sample.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement confirmed DNA at the crime scene matched Owens’ DNA, Houston said.

Owens, 44, is in a Minnesota state hospital serving time for a sexually related crime, Houston said. Owens has been charged with first-degree murder and two counts of armed sexual battery.

Mink’s family found her body Sept. 11, 2003. It was reported at the time that she was strangled and had been sexually assaulted. She also was beaten with an unknown object and had blunt trauma to her face and head, Houston said.

Mink was 71.

Her family had called her home several times to confirm a dinner engagement. When she didn’t answer, they grew concerned and went to her apartment. Mink didn’t answer the door, so they went behind the apartment’ and found a sliding glass door partially open.

Inside, they saw Mink’s body on the floor.

After a news conference today, Houston described Mink’s murder as a “brutal crime and a truly innocent victim.”

He said Mink was a nice, outgoing grandmother whose adult children visited her daily.

“Obviously it’s great that we solved this, but it’s even better for the family,” said Houston, who works with the Cold Case Squad.

Houston spoke to Mink’s daughter today to tell her the case had been solved, and she was overjoyed, he said.

“It’s good,” Mink’s daughter, Penny Hammock, said about the arrest. “It’s still shocking to know.”

Owens, a drifter without ties to Tampa, didn’t know Mink, Houston said. But three days before Mink’s death, Hillsborough deputies interviewed him about an unrelated offense in north Tampa. He was not charged in that case.

In 2003, the Chicago native had no permanent residence. Tampa police traced him that year to at least a dozen cities.

Owens now calls Minnesota his home, Houston said.

Two days ago, Houston went to Minnesota and spoke with Owens for about an hour.

“He denied knowing the victim, denied being in Tampa, denied being in the apartment,” Houston said.

Owens offered no explanation for fingerprint and DNA evidence, Houston said.

Owens likely will be extradited to Tampa to stand trial for Mink’s death, he said.

At the press conference, Tampa police Maj. George McNamara said the arrest was made due to tenacious work and some luck.

Since the Cold Case Squad started in 2006, it has cleared 10 cases and made five arrests. Houston described today’s arrest as one of the most important.

“For every victim out here, there’s a family left behind, McNamara said. “We’re going to do our darndest to find out who committed these crimes.”
