Police have arrested a man and confiscated nearly 200 roosters that were part of a cock fighting operation in the northern Indiana town of Ligonier.

It was actually a tip that led authorities to the property this past weekend where the cock fighting allegedly took place. They arrested 34-year old Eleazar Sandoval after finding gruesome evidence.

Noble County Sheriff’s Deputy Brian Walker was one of the first officers on the scene, “I was very surprised just with the number, just walking in, it was kind of overwhelming and then finding the clumps of blood and feathers, things of that nature, it is kind of surprising.”

Walker says the tip came from a man who bet on the fights, “A gentleman had called stating he had lost all of his money in what he called rooster fighting”

After getting a search warrant, police found 197 roosters and animal fighting paraphernalia. They also found two arena style fighting areas which provided Walker and the authorities even more evidence, “With all that together, we kind of thought that they’d been doing this for a while.”

Sandoval had been leasing the barns on the property where the fighting allegedly took place He was booked on Sunday and faces a number of charges, including Possession of Animals for Fighting and Cruelty to Animals.

A burglary suspect pulled out a gun and pointed it at a Scottsdale officer on Wednesday afternoon, but was quickly disarmed by a second officer standing nearby.

Police say Sonia Rodriguez and Octaviano Meza had tried to rob a home at Scottsdale Road and McDowell Road earlier in the day.

Officers arriving at the scene then found the suspects fleeing the area in a vehicle.

Upon stopping their car, both were arrested; Meza for an outstanding warrant and Rodriguez for failure to provide identification.

Police say Rodriguez then complained about her handcuffs being too tight while trying to turn her wrists.

As the arresting officer was adjusting the handcuffs, Rodriguez apparently pulled one of her hands free and retrieved a revolver from her front waistband.

A second officer was able to grab the gun and disable the trigger while other officers disabled Rodriguez and re-handcuffed her.

No one was injured during the event.

Due to statements that Rodriguez made, she was booked on charges of Attempted 1st Degree Murder and other weapons charges then transported to the county jail.

But police soon realize her family is holding something back and isn’t fully cooperating with them. Later, investigators find out that relatives have arranged the woman’s release on their own. And they discover that members of the family are heavy into marijuana trafficking.

The case illustrates how a terrifyingly common crime in Latin America has moved across the border into the United States: Criminals and their family members are being kidnapped by fellow criminals and held for six-figure ransoms.

The abductions are occurring in the Phoenix area at the rate of practically one per day, and police suspect they have led to killings in which bound and bullet-riddled bodies have been found dumped in the desert.

The kidnap victims are typically drug- or immigrant-smugglers, who are seen as inviting targets because they have a lot of money, they can raise large sums of cash on short notice, and they are unlikely to go to the police, for fear their own shady dealings will come to light.

“We have never had a victim that we have investigated that has been as clean as the new driven snow,” said Sgt. Phil Roberts, who investigates the kidnappings. “There has always been some type of criminal element to it. Either they are criminals, drug dealers or human smugglers — or a close family member is.”

The kidnappers themselves are fellow traffickers who are doing it for the money or to punish their rivals.

Phoenix had more than 340 reported such kidnappings last year, but police said the real number is much higher because many cases go unreported.

The San Diego area has also seen a rise in kidnappings over the past year, with two or three reported during busy weeks, and some victims were mixed up in drug smuggling. But the hostage-taking appears to be most prevalent in Phoenix, the nation’s biggest base of operations for immigrant smugglers.

Kidnappings are common in Mexico, and the victims often include criminals as well as legitimate businessmen, such as bankers. Phoenix police said they believe the kidnappers here are not going after legitimate businessmen for fear their families will go to the police.

The kidnappings first came to light in Phoenix three years ago but are rising as overall violence associated with immigrant smuggling intensifies in Arizona.

Immigrant smuggling is a lucrative line of work: A ring that moves a load of 30 illegal immigrants through Arizona can gross $45,000 to $75,000.

And smugglers can quickly get their hands on large sums of money — sometimes in the middle of the night. In one case, someone who turned to authorities about a kidnapping brought more than $300,000 in ransom money to the police department in cereal boxes.

Hidden Cam Shows Woman Repeatedly Slapping Helpless Handicapped Man

A 56-year-old Central Florida woman was arrested after a hidden surveillance camera videotaped her repeatedly slapping and hitting a mentally handicapped man.

Vincent Dimartino said he put three hidden surveillance cameras in his Port Orange home after he suspected that his 17-year-old son wasn’t being taken care of properly by caregiver Rabha Assal Merlino.

When Merlino would come to care for Dimartino’s son, she would bring the 42-year-old victim who has Down’s Syndrome and suffers from diminished mental capacity, according to a police report.

Dimartino said the first tape he checked showed the woman delivering repeated blows to a man’s head and face.

The sound of the strikes to the head and face can be heard on the tape.

“There is no doubt that that individual was helpless and could not defend himself,” Port Orange police Capt. Frank Surmaczewicz said. “It is probably one of the worst incidents that we have seen.”

“It is still too hard to watch,” Dimartino said. “I feel angry and betrayed. She always swore how much she loved Vincent. In my head, I still hear the slapping,” Dimartino said.

Marlino spent up to 20 hours a week at the alleged victim’s home to provide caregiver services for the last four years.

Police said there are six other videos in police possession allegedly showing the woman stealing food and items, Local 6′s Adam Longo said.

Polk dad charged in baby’s death – Officials said the man told them he beat his daughter because he had wanted a son.

Marcos Gomez-Romero told sheriff’s detectives he wanted a son.

Every time he looked at his baby girl, Gomez-Romero said he grew annoyed and angry because she was not the boy he had hoped for.

Gomez-Romero told detectives that abusing his daughter, Ariana Lizeth Rodriguez-Romero, became such a “habit” that he slapped her while she slept.

On Thursday, a Polk County grand jury indicted Gomez-Romero, 28, on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse for Ariana’s death.

A medical examiner found dozens of internal and external injuries on Ariana’s body. The infant had five new fractures on her ribs and more than a dozen old fractures. There was a hematoma and a cut on her spleen. Her liver was bruised, as was her jaw.

When questioned by a Polk County sheriff’s detective the day after Ariana died, Gomez-Romero said he was angry when his daughter was born because he wanted a son, reports said.

Gomez-Romero, who lives in Winter Haven, told a detective he called his daughter an “ugly girl, a prostitute and deny [sic] she was his daughter,” a Sheriff’s Office report said.

Gomez-Romero said he picked Ariana up by her hands to carry her. He said he spanked her several times out of anger because she would not stop crying.

When a detective asked Gomez-Romero what a 4-month-old could do to warrant such severe punishment, the report said he stated, “Nothing.”

“Gomez-Romero made it clear that his anger and hostility towards his daughter was due to the fact that she was a girl and he had wanted a son,” the sheriff’s report said.

Sheriff’s detectives also interviewed Ariana’s mother, Juana Rodriguez-Perez, who said Gomez-Romero would carry Ariana by her hands into the bedroom and close the door.

Shortly after, the report said, their daughter would begin to cry.

Rodriguez-Perez told the detective when she threatened to call the police on Ariana’s father, he would threaten to leave with their 2-year-old son.

Gomez-Romero is being held at the Polk County Jail.

State Attorney’s Office spokesman Chip Thullbery on Friday said that although the infant’s mother has not been arrested, “the possibility of charging her has not been foreclosed at this moment.”

BAYOU LA BATRE, Ala. — Lam Luong initially told police that his girlfriend had his four young children and failed to return them, but his family suspected something more sinister: that he traded the kids for a drug fix.

The truth appears to be even worse. Police say Luong broke down under questioning and confessed to tossing the children — ages 4 months, 1, 2 and 3 — off the highest point of the Dauphin Island bridge near the Gulf of Mexico.

Mobile County Sheriff’s Flotilla Capt. Paul Stewart on Wednesday searches the waters north of the Dauphin Island bridge.

He had been fighting with his wife, Ngoc Phan, in part about the girlfriend, said Kam Phengsisomboun, Phan’s brother-in-law.

Phengsisomboun said a police witness reported seeing at least part of the horror: someone throwing a bundle from the bridge Monday as three children sat in a nearby car. Other details about the witness account were not immediately available from authorities.

The bridge is 80 feet tall at the highest part of the span, the water up to 55 feet deep, and rescuers searched Wednesday without hope of finding the children alive. Divers aided by cadaver dogs in boats searched near the bridge, while others in boats and helicopters covered an area totaling 100 square miles in case the current swept the bodies into the gulf.

The search was called off late Wednesday afternoon when dense fog rolled in, completely obscuring the bridge.

Missing and presumed dead were 4-month-old Danny Luong; 1-year-old Lindsey Luong; 2-year-old Hannah Luong; and 3-year-old Ryan Phan. Phan is not the man’s biological child, but Luong raised him from infancy, authorities said.

Some family members and friends held out hope that the children survived.

“I just pray for the kids, that they are still alive,” said Van Lam, a family friend who was at an Oriental market along with the children’s maternal grandmother Wednesday afternoon.

Luong, 37, is charged with four counts of capital murder.

He came to Alabama from Vietnam in 1984 and worked as a shrimper, Phengsisomboun said. The couple lived with Ngoc Phan’s mother at Bayou La Batre, a fishing village 20 miles southwest of Mobile with a large Southeast Asian community.

Phengsisomboun said the couple had recently moved back to the area from Hinesville, Ga.

Luong had argued with his wife Sunday night and again Monday before taking the children, Phengsisomboun said. Luong’s girlfriend, who is from New York but had been living in a Gulfport, Miss., hotel, was a factor in the dispute, he said.

Luong left the home with two of the children, then later came back for the other two, he said.

Investigators and family members said Luong reported the children missing Monday, claiming he had given the kids to his girlfriend and that she failed to return them. Authorities said he changed his story Tuesday night after they found holes in his account.

Phengsisomboun said he initially feared Luong had traded the children to buy drugs. Luong had a crack habit and had rapidly spent money from an insurance settlement after an automobile accident, he said.

Luong was arrested last Oct. 19 in Hinesville on a charge accusing him of possessing crack cocaine; a grand jury has not acted on the case. According to a police report, he called police looking to turn himself in.

Luong was scheduled to appear in court Thursday on the murder charges. District Attorney John Tyson said he did not believe Luong had a lawyer.

His 23-year-old wife was in seclusion Wednesday at her mother’s brick home, the front porch cluttered with children’s shoes.

Two men have been arrested and a third is being sought in a double-shooting Sunday night in Sevier County, Sheriff Ron Seals said today.

Kevin Anthony Dickson Jr., 26, of Sevierville and Jessie James Davis, 27, of Dandridge have both been charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder.

Warrants have been issued for Johnny Ramirez of Kodak, also charging him with attempted first-degree murder.

Ramirez is believed to have fled the state, according to Seals.

Dickson was taken into custody around noon Monday by Capt. Jeff McCarter and Detective Matthew Cubberley, who are investigating the shooting, in a home in Pigeon Forge.

Dickson also was charged with two counts of aggravated assaulted, stemming from Sunday’s shootings.

Davis was taken into custody later in the day by McCarter and Cubberley in Jefferson County.

Both are being held without bond in the Sevier County Jail pending arraignment.

Both shooting victims, Christopher S. Lyons, 24, who is a resident of the home where the shooting occurred, and his visitor, Rodney W. Hardin, 31, are still hospitalized at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

Hardin is in critical condition.

McCarter said robbery was not a motive in the 10:12 p.m. attack. He said it appeared to be some sort of revenge against the victims, who are acquainted with their attackers.

The two were shot with a semiautomatic pistol.

A third man, Anthony Lyons, who also lives at the residence, was beaten with fists and a stick, McCarter said.

Slain Girls’ Mother Asks Father To Turn Himself In

Family and friends remembered two slain teenage girls at funeral services on Saturday.

Police continue to search for the girls’ father, Yasser Said, who allegedly killed his daughters Amina and Sarah Said on New Year’s Day.

The girls’ mother, Patricia Said, issued a plea for their father to turn himself in.

“All I’m asking is turn yourself in,” she said. “We will not quit until we find you. If it’s the last thing I do, I promise, I will find you.”

The girls’ mother and brother, Islam, are in hiding, but both attended the service at Rahma Funeral Home.

“He messed up the family,” Islam Said said. “Everybody’s shocked.”

Many people wore pink ribbons and held pink flowers in memory of Amina and Sarah Said. Mourners said the outgoing sisters were inseparable.

Police found 17-year-old Sarah and 18-year-old Amina shot to death in their father’s taxicab Tuesday night.

The victims’ boyfriends said they believe the girls were killed for dating American men.

NBC 5 reported that Patricia Said had left her husband and took the girls because he refused to let his daughters date American boys. When the girls returned home last week, Yaser Said was enraged, friends said.

Police said they are still looking for Said, but have no leads on his whereabouts.

Schepps Dairy is offering a $10,000 reward for his arrest and indictment.

Father, Son Charged With Alleged Sexual Assault

DENVER (CBS4) ― A father and son accused of sexually assaulting a pizza delivery woman were formally charged Thursday.

Daniel and Lawrence Garcia are accused of attacking a pizza delivery person on New Year’s Eve.

She was on her way back to her car in the 4600 block of Race Street when police say they went after her.

The woman eventually broke free and called for help.

Both men were expected in court on Monday.

Rafaela Mendz was arrested after TIA police found a blackjack in her carry-on bag.

An airport spokeswoman tells us that when police asked her what she was doing carrying the bat-like, leather covered stick through the passenger screening area, she told them it was “to smack men’s hands when they got fresh.”

Mendez was booked into the Orient Road Jail and charged with carrying a concealed weapon. The incident took place at around 4 a.m. at Airside C, no word on where Mendez was travelling to.

According to Answers.com – a blackjack is a “leather-covered bludgeon with a short, flexible shaft or strap, used as a hand weapon.”

An arrest after the body of Ricardo Linares is found in a Cape Coral canal days after Christmas. Police say they have the man responsible for killing him. Melgin Alvarado is charged with second degree murder for taking the life of his cousin who was also his roommate.

A man is found dead handcuffed and dragged by his feet in a northwest Cape canal. Preliminary reports show he was strangled to death.

An investigation led police one mile away to SW 14th street. The home of the the victim — Ricardo Molina-Linares and the suspect — Melgin Alvarado. But they weren’t just roommates, police say they were cousins.

Linares was found handcuffed at the scene but police keys couldn’t get them off. Reports show the only key to unlock those handcuffs were found inside the suspects room.

Police say they also found a sandal of Alvardo’s that matched a footprint at the scene. They say Alvarado also admitted to sending bogus text messages from Linares phone and that he was caught on video surveillance using the victims ATM card after Linares had died.

Man arrested in death of woman found burning at Royal Palm Beach church

A 30-year-old Sunrise man left 24-year-old Katie Brunelle’s body burning behind a church parking lot on Dec. 23 after beating her to death, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office announced today.

John Liebro faces second-degree murder charges that could be upgraded after the State Attorney’s Office reviews the case, officials said. Liebro and Brunelle worked together at a Denny’s restaurant in Sheridan and had become involved romantically, according to sheriff’s detective Jennifer DeGidio. They had gone out together on Dec. 21, and Liebro eventually took her home to make his girlfriend jealous in the early morning on Dec. 22, DeGidio said. Brunelle and the girlfriend, 29-year-old Michelle Gonzalez, argued, and Brunelle spit on Gonzalez, according to DeGidio. When Liebro drove Brunelle away from the house, “he tried to get Katie to be quiet and she continued to yell,” DeGidio said. “At that time, John apparently snapped. He stopped the car and proceeded to strangle Katie to death.” Liebro returned home and told Gonzalez that Brunelle would no longer be a problem for them, according to DeGidio. He left Brunelle’s body in the passenger’s seat of his car with a comforter draped over her, DeGidio said. That night, Liebro threatened to kill Gonzalez and her 9-year-old son if Gonzalez didn’t accompany him to dispose of the body, DeGidio said.

A passing deputy found Brunelle’s body on fire in a wooded lot behind Our Lady Queen of the Apostles Catholic Church in Royal Palm Beach shortly after 3 a.m. on Dec. 23. DeGidio said Liebro set his car on fire in a Margate parking lot by lighting gas-soaked rags on the passenger’s side floor on Dec. 26. Hours later, he reported the car stolen. But he also told several family members about what he had done to Brunelle, DeGidio said. He did not confess to the crime when sheriff’s detectives interviewed him.

Liebro is on probation in Pennsylvania for robbery and was originally booked into the Broward County Jail for violating that probation when he drove into Palm Beach County. Cell tower records placed him near the church before Brunelle’s body was found there.

Because Liebro threatened her, Gonzalez will not face charges, DeGidio said.

Brunelle leaves behind two sons ñ ages 4 and 2 ñ and a husband. She did not live with her family because of drug and alcohol problems, DeGidio said.

Man arrested in connection with burning body

A 25-year-old man suspected of firing the bullet that killed a woman and a child early New Year’s told police investigators he was shooting at a streetlight, according to court documents.

Pedro Cortez appeared in court for the first time today, and a judge ordered him held without bail.

Cortez has not been formally charged but was arrested on suspicion of two counts of murder in the deaths of Becky Yanez, 47, and a cousin, 11-year-old Angelica Martinez.

Cortez, wearing blue jeans and a white T-shirt, stood impassively before Denver County Judge Melvin Okamoto, then mouthed “I love you” to relatives as he left the courtroom.

Cortez’s attorney, Harvey Steinberg, asked the judge to schedule a bail hearing, but Okamoto made no decision on that request.

Denver police investigators have suggested that the fatal gunshot was fired from several hundred yards away by someone celebrating the arrival of 2008. Investigators initially thought the single bullet, which went through the front wall of a home at 4708 W. 11th Ave., was fired from a high-powered rifle. However, an affidavit for Cortez’s arrest said he admitted firing a .44-caliber revolver at a streetlight at the corner of Wells Place and Winona Court — located across Lakewood and Dry Gulch Park from the home where Yanez and Martinez died.

According to court documents, when police investigators went to the place where Cortez said he was shooting, they noted that the home on 11th Avenue was “directly in the background to the south.”

The pair were at a family gathering when the bullet tore through the front wall of the home about 12:15 a.m. Tuesday. It hit Yanez in the head, killing her instantly, and then struck the girl in the side. She was rushed to Denver Health Medical Center, where she died.

Members of Cortez’s family and relatives of the two people who died were both in the courtroom, and extra Denver sheriff’s deputies were on hand. But there were no ill words exchanged and, in fact, Angelica’s aunt said she knows Cortez’s wife.

A affirmative action corrections officer at the Valencia County Detention Center ended up behind bars last week when she was caught allegedly smuggling heroin into the jail for two inmates.

After working for the facility for about a year, for a couple of days Renee Contreras joined the inmates she was trusted to protect.

Last week deputies reported they caught Contreras bringing in drugs for two inmates inside.

“Apparently she had been bringing in marijuana for some time,” Valencia County sheriff’s Deputy Ed Chavez said. “We don’t know exactly how long but had moved up to bringing heroin into the detention facility.”

Contreras apparently fessed up to some of the crimes. Court documents said Contreras got the drugs from someone inside a Los Lunas house.

Investigators later found marijuana, possible mushrooms and a scale inside the home.

Contreras is accused of delivering the drugs to the resident’s relative and a friend already inside the detention center.

In return, Contreras allegedly pocketed $50.

The jail’s warden said drugs smuggled into the facility are a common problem he’s trying to stop.

Witness at scene of Thursday’s shooting cooperating, police say

Vancouver police are looking for a 27-year-old man, described as extremely dangerous, who allegedly shot and killed three men in a rental home in Vancouver’s Burton Ridge neighborhood.

An arrest warrant charging murder was issued Friday evening for Benjamin Vasquez-Salamanca.

He is the only known suspect in the murders, and also uses the names Benjermin Salamanca-Vazquez and Benjamin Salamanca. He is 5 feet 5 inches tall and 180 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

A drug-related warrant for his arrest was issued previously in Multnomah County, Ore.

Anyone who knows his whereabouts is urged to not approach him and to call 911.

Police late Friday also identified two of the men killed: Luis Infante-Ramirez, 25, and Cesar Nuñez-Ortiz, 20.

The name of the third murder victim hadn’t been released Friday as officials sought to notify his family.

Police also withheld the name of a fourth man who was shot. That victim is hospitalized but expected to recover.

A fifth man who was in the house during the shooting — and allegedly tried to hide methamphetamine from police — is cooperating with the investigation as a witness.

Natanael M. Nuñez-Ortiz, 21, of Lacey made his first appearance Friday in Clark County Superior Court on one count of possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver.

Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney John Fairgrieve said Nuñez-Ortiz was at 9612 N.E. 21st St., a rental property described in court papers as a drug house, when the shootings happened about 12:30 a.m. Thursday.

Las Vegas police arrested a man Friday afternoon in connection with a bloody machete attack the night before that left a woman dead and her two children maimed.

Police booked Victor Cruz, 29, on murder and attempted murder charges after catching him in an apartment complex near Tropicana Avenue and Mountain Vista Street.

Investigators believe Cruz, also known as Victor Orlando Cruz-Garcia, attacked a 46-year-old woman and her two children after she told him to leave their apartment because he was drunk, homicide Lt. Lew Roberts said.

Cruz and his girlfriend shared the apartment with the family, he said.

Alex Martinez, 22, who lives in the unit above at the Cabana Park apartments near Bonanza Road and Eastern Avenue, said he was in bed when he heard the thumping sounds of a fight.

When Martinez peered out a window, he saw a woman bleeding on the ground and a bleeding girl running around the building.

Not far away, Martinez saw a man on the ground covering his head with his hands as the attacker whaled on him seven or eight times with a foot-and-a-half long machete.

The attacker didn’t say anything. He just kept hitting, Martinez said.

After taking the blows, the man on the ground grabbed his dangling arm, which was nearly severed below the elbow, and ran while the blood poured like water, Martinez said.

“It was very ugly,” he said.

Roberts said the blood trail led across the parking lot and around some cars, as if the victim were running from the machete-wielding man.

Cruz disappeared before police arrived, but investigators learned he had an acquaintance near Tropicana and Mountain Vista and flooded the area with patrol officers Friday. One of the officers spotted Cruz in an apartment complex about 1:30 p.m. and arrested him.

Meanwhile, the woman died at University Medical Center. Her 12-year-old daughter was in critical condition with severe cuts and trauma to her head and face, though she had been talking Friday, Roberts said.

The woman’s 27-year-old son was also in critical condition after doctors reattached his partially severed arm and a severed finger found at the scene, he said.

“It’s one of the worst I’ve seen,” Roberts said of the crime.

By Friday afternoon, most of the blood had been cleaned in the complex on Aster Lane, but a few dried blood patches on the light gray gravel served as reminders of the attack.

A handful of children on their way home from Lunt Elementary stopped to gawk at the stained concrete outside the apartment with Bill Richardson campaign stickers on the window.

In the window next door, someone had hanged Christmas lights and wrote the words “Feliz Navidad.”

A Cottonwood man has been arrested for slapping his son and cramming a tortilla into his wife’s mouth.

Officials from the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office say Jose Daniel Suarez-Quinones hit his 13-year-old son on the ear and in the rib cage on Monday after the boy was playing with a toy instead of eating.

Suarez-Quinones, 37, then apparently grabbed a flower tortilla and stuffed it in his wife’s mouth when she confronted him about the situation. He also threw a plate at her, which broke and cut her leg.

Suarez-Quinones faces charges of aggravated assault, criminal damage and disorderly conduct.

Teen given prison term for rape, murder

Posted: 8:55 PM- ST. GEORGE – A 15-year-old boy is on his way to Utah State Prison after pleading guilty today to raping and killing a teenage girl in a St. George park earlier this year.

Carlos Adrian Javier Hernandez entered his plea during his arraignment in 5th District Court.
Judge James L. Shumate accepted the guilty pleas as part of a deal with prosecutors in which a charge of aggravated sexual assault was dropped.

Shumate also sentenced Hernandez after he entered the pleas to 15 years to life for the murder of Keely Amber Hall and 5 years to life on the rape count. He ordered the sentences be served consecutively at the Utah State Prison. Hernandez will likely be the youngest inmate in the Draper prison, said his lawyer Alan Boyack.

Hernandez had waived his presentencing report, which allowed Shumate to lay down the prison term today.

The judge will order Hernandez to pay restitution, the amount of which will be determined at a later date. The restitution will not exceed $15,000 on each count.

Hernandez, heavily guarded, shackled and wearing green-striped jail clothing, answered Shumate’s questions softly as members of the victim’s family wept.

In recounting the facts of the case, Washington County Deputy Attorney Ryan Shaum told the court that Hernandez and Hall, 15, had met at the

Dixie Downs Park in St. George in the early morning hours of Jan. 10.

When Hernandez made sexual advances toward Hall, he was rebuffed, Shaum said.

“[Hernandez] became angry and physically assaulted Hall who in the process was raped,” said Shaum. “At some point during the rape, she stopped breathing and [Hernandez] left the area.”
Shaum said it was determined that Hall died from strangulation.

Gilbert police arrested three men Saturday in connection with 15 robberies at convenience stores in Valley.

The men robbed stores in Gilbert, Tempe, Chandler, Mesa, Phoenix and Sun Lakes from September into this month, police said. The robbers would enter convenience stores armed with handguns, demanding cash, alcohol, cigarettes and lottery tickets.

All three suspects have admitted to an involvement in the robberies, Gilbert police said. The suspects are Joshua Liranzo, 20, of Gilbert, and Jonathan C. Diaz and Joseph Armando Herrera, both 19 and from Chandler.

The three have been booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail in Phoenix.

A fourth suspect has been identified and is in custody in another state, police said. Information about that suspect was not being released by police on Monday.

The investigation that led to the arrests was a cooperative effort between the Gilbert, Chandler, Tempe, Mesa and Phoenix police departments, and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.

Four members of Manatee County’s Brown Pride Locos gang were sentenced to prison today on criminal racketeering charges.

In September, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office arrested several men they believed to be members of the gang.

Attorney General Bill McCollum’s office says the four members that received their sentencing today were convicted of Criminal Racketeering and Conspiracy to Commit Racketeering.

The men sentenced include 25-year-old Justino Santana, 22-year-old Fernando Chavez, 21-year-old Jose Luis Rodriguez and 25-year-old Pedro Garcia. Their prison terms range from 71 months to 4 years.

A 26-year-old Miami woman was married to 10 men at the same time, prosecutors allege, in a marriage-for-pay scheme to enable the men to remain in the United States.

Eunice Lopez was charged with nine counts of bigamy Wednesday, reported WPLG-TV in Miami.

The charges say she married the men between 2002 and 2006 without divorcing any of them. In one case, she married two men in the same month.

The Bakersfield district attorney is seeking the death penalty against a career criminal who is accused of fatally beating an elderly woman and severely injuring her daughter.

Prosecutors say 39-year-old Timothy Titus Rodriguez beat the victims after a dispute over the amount of money he was being paid for doing odd jobs around their house.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Kern County Superior Court on charges including first-degree and attempted murder.

Rodriguez was arrested along with his estranged fiancee, 26-year-old Chenoa Martinez, who told authorities Rodriguez returned from the woman’s home with money and bloodstained clothes

A juror spoke to NewsChannel 32 regarding the case of a Jewish Hospital nurse’s aide who was tried with sexually abusing patients.

“It’s stressful to make a decision on someone’s life, and either way there’s victims and to be absolutely positive that he’s the person who did it, that’s hard,” said the juror, who asked to remain anonymous. “Very tough.”

Mohammad Muse was charged with three counts of sexual abuse and knowingly abusing an adult, until a judge declared a mistrial in his case earlier this week.

A 58-year-old woman, who is deaf and communicates with sign language, testified that in February, 2006 Muse entered her room, moved her legs and touched her genitals while she used sign language to tell him to stop.

The victim testified that Muse stopped, but did it again.

She said the curtain between her and the other patient was drawn. After about 10 minutes, she said, Muse wrote something on a clipboard and left.

“I couldn’t do anything,” she testified. “You know, like when you’re in shock, like you’re frozen. It was incredible.”

Police said Muse also abused two other patients who identified him as their attacker.

Muse could have received 25 years in prison for the charges against him.

APPLETON, Wis. — Darshana Patel told authorities she was suspicious as she watched her boyfriend stir a smoothie at an ice cream store. When he offered it to her, she noticed powder on the cup’s rim, and the pregnant woman feigned illness and didn’t drink it.

According to a criminal complaint, the woman says she sent the powder to a laboratory and it turned out to be mifepristone, the abortion pill also known as RU-486.

The test results came too late: She had already suffered two miscarriages in less than a year.

On Thursday, Manishkumar M. Patel, 34, of Appleton, was accused of slipping the drug to the woman without her knowledge. He was charged with seven felonies and two misdemeanors, including attempted first-degree intentional homicide of an unborn child, stalking, burglary and two counts of violating a restraining order. The nine charges carry a maximum penalty of 99 1/2 years in prison and a $92,000 fine.

Wisconsin is one of 37 states with a “fetal homicide” law, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. Under the 1998 law, anyone who attacks a pregnant woman and injures or kills her fetus could face life in prison.

“These allegations are devious, diabolical and disturbing,” Outagamie County Court Commissioner Brian Figy told Manishkumar Patel at a hearing.

Defense lawyer Thomas Zoesch said he had not had a chance to discuss the case in detail with his client but expects he will plead not guilty. No one answered the door at Darshana Patel’s Kaukauna home Thursday evening.

Darshana Patel and Manishkumar Patel are not related, and Manishkumar Patel is married to someone else; Patel is a common Indian last name.

The criminal complaint paints a picture of a long-running affair that produced a child, now age 3, but which soured.

The two had known each other since Manishkumar Patel, who holds a legal green card, emigrated to the U.S. from India in 1998, the complaint said. The two began a relationship in 2001 and had a son in 2004.

Darshana Patel said she became pregnant with Manish’s child in September 2006 — a child he denied was his — but she miscarried two months later.

She became pregnant with his child again in August 2007, the complaint said, and this time she noticed how attentive Manish became. He even prepared meals for her on occasion.

Then she noticed the powder on the smoothie cup at the store. A short time later, her doctor detected problems in her hormone levels, and she contacted the lab to test the substance in the cup. While waiting for a kit to test the substance, she miscarried. The lab test later confirmed the presence of the abortion pill, the complaint said.

She obtained a restraining order Nov. 13, authorities said.

The complaint said a search of Manishkumar Patel’s residence Wednesday found an envelope containing pills labeled as mifepristone, or RU-486. Investigators said they asked him if he knew what kind of pills they were, and he responded, “abortion pills.”

He told deputies he got the pills from India, according to the complaint. Access to RU-486 is strictly regulated in the U.S., and it is only administered to women in a doctor’s office.

Investigators asked him whether he used the pills to cause the miscarriages and he declined to answer. In a follow-up interview, he admitted giving Darshana “one pill” but did not say when or where, the complaint said.

Patel was ordered held on $750,000 bail after Assistant District Attorney Mark Schroeder said Patel had a net worth of $400,000 and was a flight risk. Patel runs service stations and other businesses.

Investigators had found an airline ticket in Patel’s home for a flight scheduled to leave for Germany on Nov. 28, the day after he was arrested, Schroeder said.

Hit-run suspect eventually may face deportation

A Milwaukie man arrested Wednesday in the hit-and-run death of a woman in a wheelchair may face deportation once his criminal case is resolved.

Rafael Avelino Gines, 51, appeared Thursday in Clackamas County Circuit Court to hear charges of felony hit and run. If convicted, he would serve as much as 10 years in prison before an immigration judge decides whether to deport him, said Lorie Dankers, a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman.

Gines told authorities he was originally from Mexico and lived in the United States illegally, Dankers said.

Mary Denise Richey, 40, of North Portland died Wednesday after she was struck trying to cross Southeast McLoughlin Boulevard near Gladstone.

Gines, who held a valid Oregon driver’s license and had no criminal record in Oregon, later surrendered to police.

Newberg man accused of abuction and attempted rape

Authorities were holding a Newberg man today, accusing him of abducting and trying to rape a woman.

Ignacio Benito-Bejarnano, 29, was accused of second-degree kidnapping and attempted first-degree rape. He was held in the Yamhill County Corrections Facility on $600,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in Yamhill County Circuit Court on Dec. 6.

Newberg-Dundee police said a woman reported that she dropped off her children at a babysitter on Wednesday. She said while driving away, she was confronted by a man who had hidden in her van.

After a brief struggle, the man ran from the van, police said. The woman was not injured.

Police arrested Benito-Bejarnano Wednesday evening after an investigation.

Benito-Bejarnano also was facing charges by federal immigration officials.

Second-degree kidnapping is a Measure 11 crime under Oregon law and carries a minimum sentence of five years, 10 months in prison.

Police on Wednesday released the 911 tape and dash cam footage of the brutal beating of a cab driver injured, as a community continues to seek justice in the case.

The video shows Luis Vasquez punch and choke drier Shukvir Singh during a fight on the shoulder of Interstate 5 in Seattle. Shocked witnesses flooded 911 with calls.

“It looked like a fender bender and then between the two cars, there’s a guy (who’s) got another guy pinned on the ground and he’s stomping on his head,” one caller told the 911 operator.

Singh believes he was targeted because as a Sikh, he wears a turban. He says Vasquez called him an “Iraqi terrorist.”

Vasquez, 20, has been charged with a hate crime, and it’s not the first time he has run into trouble with the law.

According to police, Vaasquez was arrested last year for allegedly slapping his girlfriend during an argument. He is also accused of punching someone else’s car during the same fight, leaving a dent.

Singh’s community has been rallying around him following the attack. On Wednesday, dozens of people gathered outside the Gurdwara Singh Sabha temple in Renton to pray for justice.

According to a statement of probable cause file in court, Vazquez was kicked out of the Apple Cup at Husky stadium on Saturday and placed into a cab by two police officers who told the driver that Vazquez needed to be taken to his home in Kent.

While the cab was southbound on Interstate 5, police said Vazquez began punching Singh in the head while calling him a terrorist. Singh pulled over and tried to run away, but witnesses told state troopers that Vazquez followed him, knocked him to the ground and continued to kick him in the head.

“I can not imagine anybody who can do this to me,” Sing said from his hospital bed on Tuesday. “He said to me ‘you are a terrorist, you did the 9-11, and I will kill you.’”

A local postal worker faced a federal judge this week in connection with throwing away mail.

Alvin Garcia-Jimenez, 28, is accused of throwing at least 300 pieces of mail into a Dumpster instead of delivering them. A witness contacted authorities.

Garcia-Jimenez was a temporary postal worker at the Azalea Park post office. Residents there were shocked by the news.

“That’s terrible,” one resident said. “We pay for them to get shipped and get to our familes and they don’t get there.”

This week, Garcia-Jimenez was arraigned in federal court on a misdemeanor count of obstructing the passage of mail entrusted to him as a letter carrier.

“This is a huge disappointment,” Postal Service spokeswoman Elaine Pancake said. “The postal service truly wants our customers to receive the service they expect and deserve and that out employees deliver.”

Garcia-Jimenez was released on his own recognizance.

Federal investigators said they believe all pieces of mail thrown in the Dumpster were retrieved and accounted for.

VILLIERS-LE-BEL, France: Rampaging youths clashed with the police for a second night in a suburb of Paris, hurling Molotov cocktails and setting fire to dozens of cars. At least 77 police officers were wounded and some officers were fired at, a senior police union official said Tuesday.

The violence overnight Monday was more intense than during three weeks of rioting in 2005, said the union official, Patrice Ribeiro. Police officers are facing “genuine urban guerillas with conventional weapons and hunting weapons,” he said.

Some officers were hit by shotgun pellets, Interior Minister Michele Alliot-Marie said. She said there were six serious wounds, “people who notably were struck in the face and close to the eyes.”

Another police union official said a round from a hunting rifle pierced the body armor of one officer, leaving him with a serious shoulder wound.

President Nicolas Sarkozy, in China on Monday on an official visit, appealed for calm.

The clashes began when two teenagers on a motorcycle died in a collision with a police car Sunday in this town of public housing blocks about 20 kilometers, or 12 miles, north of Paris. The teenagers were identified in French news reports only as Moushin, 15, and Larami, 16.

On Monday night, more than 100 youths pushed riot police officers into the middle of a four-way intersection, raining projectiles on them from at least two directions. Police officers responded with tear gas and paint guns to mark the attackers for arrest. Broken glass and spent tear-gas canisters littered the streets.

At least 36 cars were burned Monday, the authorities said, with the police guarding the local fire department and moving to protect firefighters as they put out fires. At least three buildings received some fire damage, including a library and a post office, a police spokesman said.

Many of the youths had lined up garbage cans in the middle of a street.

Firecrackers were set off and when a firebomb hit a garbage can, youths could be heard cheering. Standing on the sideline of the battles, one young man was holding a poster of one of the two dead teenagers: “Deceased 25/11/07. Dead for nothing.”

The incidents Monday night took place not far from where Moushin and Larami died, and they followed other confrontations between teenagers and the police on Sunday night.

Residents claimed that the police officers had left the crash scene without helping the teenagers. Officials cast doubt on the claim, but the internal police oversight agency said it was investigating. The police authority for the department of Val d’Oise suggested that it was an ordinary traffic accident and that the youths had ignored the right of way.

In the violence Sunday, eight people were arrested and 20 police officers were hurt – including the town’s police chief, who was hit in the face with an iron bar when he tried to negotiate with the rioters, the police said.

A study by the state auditor’s office indicated that money poured into poor French suburbs in recent decades had done little to solve problems vividly exposed by the 2005 riots, including discrimination, unemployment and alienation from mainstream French society.

The unrest in 2005 was prompted by the deaths of two teenagers who were electrocuted in a power substation while hiding from the police in another suburb northeast of Paris.

Fires raged and mobs rioted in the Paris banlieues (suburbs) Monday night for the second night in a row, after two boys, aged 15 and 16, died when their mini-motorcycle hit a police car a day earlier, Nidra Poller reports. At least sixty policemen have been injured, and a school gym has gone up in flames.

Violence is spreading from Villiers le Bel to a dozen neighboring communities. At least twenty policemen have been injured so far tonight (forty injured last night according to the latest figures), some of them critically. The insurgents are using firebombs, iron rods, baseball bats, and firing buckshot. Journalists are attacked, their cameras are stolen. The mayor of Villiers le Bel is running a crisis center from an undisclosed location. Interior Minister Michèle Alliot-Marie is strangely absent, silent, or ineffectual. This is not the way it is supposed to be happening in the Sarkozy government. Don’t be surprised if Alliot-Marie is replaced early next year.

Cars, dumpsters, and buildings have been torched. A school gym has gone up in flames. Shop windows that weren’t smashed last night are targets tonight.

Police investigators and several eyewitnesses corroborate the patrolmen’s version of the accident. The police car was going at a normal speed, no sirens, no hot pursuit. The mini-motorcycle came down a side street at high speed and made a left turn, crashing directly into the police car. The police remained on the scene for approximately twenty to thirty minutes until the fire department ambulance arrived.

President Sarkozy, on a state visit to China, issued a plea for calm. It must have seemed quite logical from where he’s standing… but it’s totally inaudible here on the receiving end.

The tally on Sunday’s punk jihad outburst is heavy and rising.

Twenty-five policemen injured, dozens of cars burned, shops destroyed, individuals assaulted. Blind with rage, the rampaging mob found time to steal before smashing and burning. For the brother of Mushin, one of the victims, “it’s not violence, it’s an expression of rage.”

Journalists are unwelcome, often assaulted, but they are getting the story out.

According to concurrent reports, the rage broke out immediately. The police claim the motorcycle ran into their patrol car at an intersection; the enraged know better—the police car in hot pursuit of the innocent boys, Moushin and Larami, smashed into their motorcycle. Moushin’s uncle was outraged because the bodies were left lying in the fire station. But it seems that the forces that came to pick them up had to turn back because they were attacked. The boys had gone out to do a little bit of rodeo, a favorite sport in the banlieue projects. Le Parisien posted You Tube videos filmed by reckless kids.

Reckless, yes, but when they get wrecked it’s the fault of the police, the Peugeot dealership, and McDonald’s.

The euphemism for these enclaves — “quartier sensible”—bears a nugget of truth if correctly translated as “touchy neighborhoods.” Villiers le Bel is in the administrative district of Sarcelles / Garges-les-Gonesses about 20 km north of Paris. Not so long ago Sarcelles was the home sweet home of Jewish refugees from North Africa; today it is their nightmare. They endure constant attacks and harassment from the permanently enraged African-Arab-Muslim residents who live cheek by jowl with their still neat clean streets.

An in-law of the widow of a Queens dentist gunned down in Forest Hills was charged with his murder after detectives made a CSI-style fingerprint match, police said Tuesday.

Authorities say 50-year-old Mikhail Mallayev was taken into custody Saturday in front of his house in Chamblee, Georgia, after detectives matched his fingerprints to the homemade silencer believed to have been used in the October 28 murder.

He reportedly offered no resistance.

Mallayev was charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

He is being held in Georgia pending extradition.

NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly described Mallayev as an in-law of the Mazoltuv Borakhova, widow of Dr. Daniel Malakov, killed while taking his 5-year-old daughter Michelle to see her.

The couple had been embroiled in a bitter custody dispute.

The suspect is reportedly related by marriage to Malakov’s widow.

“There is a relationship, in laws, we believe,” Kelly said.

Authorities say Mallayev’s prints, from the homemade silencer found at the crime scene, were matched to prints from his December 29, 1994, arrest for fare evasion in the subway system.

A second set of prints were matched Saturday, and he was placed under arrest by NYPD detectives and officials from De Kalb County.

Mallayev, a native of Uzbekistan, has lived in United States for past 19 years.

Kelly would not discuss the motive for the murder.

“We are not going to go into the details at this time,” he said. “An arrest has been made, an extradition hearing will be held today in Georgia.”

The police commissioner praised the CSI-style detective work that led to the arrest.

“I want to commend the latent print detectives,” he said. “They had to use special procedures, darken the prints, because of the nature of the prints taken in 1994, manual procedures had to be used.”

On November 5, Malakov’s ex-wife testified in Queens Family Court that he had abused her; a divorce lawyer who represented the shooting victim said it wasn’t true.

The death shocked Malakov’s close-knit community of Bukharan Jews from the former Soviet republic of Uzbekistan.

The victim’s family has insisted all along that Borakhova or members of her family were somehow responsible for the murder. It is an allegation that Borakhova, for the record, has repeatedly denied.

The arrest is a major development, but the Malakov’s have so many unanswered questions.

Suspects accused of Thanksgiving Day rape

A man and a teenager are accused of sexually assaulting a woman on Thanksgiving Day.

The sheriff’s office says Jesus Vargas-Garcia, 33, is charged with sexual assault, false imprisonment and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.

Hector Raul Gomez-pol, 17, is charged sexual assault.

Authorities say the two are co-workers. According to the victim, Vargas-Garcia wanted her to have sex with Gomez-pol.

She refused and Vargas-Garcia put a gun to her head. At that point, both allegedly sexually assaulted her.

She was eventually able to get away, but said that Vargas-Garcia caught her, dragged her back to the site of the assault and started to choke her.

The victim said he only stopped because someone knocked on the door – that’s when she was able to get away.

Vargas-Garcia and Gomez-pol were both arrested and taken to the Lee County Jail.

A man was taken to the hospital over the weekend after he says his friend’s roommate bit and kicked him during an argument.

It happened early Saturday morning at 4401 24th Place SW in Golden Gate.

Alex Hernandez walked into the Collier County Sheriff’s Office Golden Gate Substation just after midnight with bite marks on his arm and injuries to his head.

Hernandez told deputies that he had been attacked by Maximlilo Hildago-Hernandez, 37, while visiting a friend.

He said he was leaving the home when Hildago-Hernandez bit him on the arm. Hernandez says he was then pushed to the floor and Hildago-Hernandez started kicking him in the head.

After meeting with deputies, Hernandez was taken to Naples Community Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities went to the home where the attack took place and arrested Hildago-Hernandez. He is charged with felony battery causing disfigurement.

A two-month-old boy is in state custody and his parents are in jail after the child was airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital with several fractures to his arm, legs and ribs, an Anderson County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman said Wednesday.

“State custody?” Ship these lowlife motherf*ckers back to Mexico, Guatemala or wherever they came from – we can’t afford this BS! Better yet, since jews like all this diversity – send them to Israel!!!

The boy was taken to Anderson Area Medical Center on Saturday at the insistence of his grandfather and later airlifted to Greenville, said spokeswoman Susann Griffin.

Some of the 24 fractures were fresh, while others were old, Griffin said.

The boy and a 3-year-old sibling have been taken into the care of the state Department of Social Services, she said.

The father, 26-year-old Anthony Enclarde, has been charged with inflicting great bodily injury upon a child, Griffin said. The mother, 19-year-old Morganna Massey, was charged with unlawful conduct toward a child, Griffin said.

Both were in the Anderson County Detention Center late Wednesday

(Millington, TN 11/20/07) A 27 year old man police say is in the United States illegal is now behind bars after he was busted with 52 pounds of pot. Piles of marijuana are now stacked up in mounds of one pound bags. 52 pounds of pot, with a street value of more than 36 thousand dollars was found in the house of Gerardo Mendoza.

Inspector Charlie Coleman is with the Special Operations Division of the Millington Police Department, “If he was getting it in 50 pound bags at a time or more he’s cutting it down to a smaller amount probably a pound and selling it to somebody else who will cut it down probably and sell it.” Police say Mendoza is an illegal immigrant, along with the pot, they found scales and a lot of other drug paraphernalia inside his house in Waverly Farms. It’s a problem police say is seen in communities like Millington more and more often. Inspector Coleman says, “They might move up here for other reasons, work, what have you but they have connection where they dope is at, where the drugs are at and they get it shipped up here to them and it’s big money to them.”

Police caught up with Mendoza at the entrance to Waverly Farms where he lives. They say he was driving a pick up truck with a shotgun in the back, along with almost 1000 dollars in cash. Chamiece Crutcher lives in the neighborhood, she says, “I saw 2 police cars in front of my house and I came out the door because I was going to take something to my momma’s friend and I saw this big truck right here and they was going in and out of this house.” People who live in the area say Mendoza’s little boy lived in the house, around what police now say is the biggest pot bust they’ve ever seen in the City of Millington. Crutcher says, “There will be kids over here kids from across the street over there and they will be right there in yard playing that’s sad.”

Beaten up at the drop of a hat

MOREHEAD CITY – Two brothers who own a Morehead City business were arrested Monday night following an alleged assault against a customer they wrongfully claimed was trying to steal from them, police said.

Maysara Alqazah, 27, and Yaser Alqazah, 25, who reside in Atlantic Beach, were arrested by Morehead City Police Department and charged with second-degree kidnapping, common law robbery, assault inflicting serious injury and assault on a female, said Capt. Garland Terry.

The men are accused of assaulting Morehead City resident Nathaniel Willis, 18, who was a customer in their business, the 98 Cents Only Discount Store on Arendell Street, police said.

Willis reportedly went to the store counter to purchase cigars, at which time the elder Alqazah brother, who was the clerk at the counter, accused him of trying to steal a hat, Terry said.

According to police information, the hat was visible, but Willis, who had a cast on one arm, was holding it in his coat. Willis held up a $20 bill to show that he intended to pay, but the clerk grabbed him and called for his brother, Terry said.

The brothers allegedly started assaulting Willis and attempted to pull him to the back of the store, he said.

At one point they locked the front doors of the store and assaulted Willis on his arms, back and upper torso using a piece of wood, Terry said. Willis was treated for his injuries at Carteret General Hospital and then released.

The assault on a female charge stems from actions allegedly taken against Willis’ girlfriend, who heard a commotion and went inside to see what was happening.

She was hit by a door when one of the brothers opened it and yelled at her to get out of the store, Terry said.

After assaulting Willis, the brothers took his $20 and let him go, at which time he and his girlfriend called police, he said.

Maysara and Yaser Alqazah were each placed in the Carteret County Jail under a $30,000 bond.

South Brunswick High Janitor Charged with Assault

BRUNSWICK COUNTY — A janitor at South Brunswick High School has been arrested for assaulting a student.

Camilio Dionicio is a 31-year-old temporary janitor at the school and has been charge with two counts of assault on a female.

Dionicio was released on a $2,000 bond.

A mother and father have been arrested for allegedly playing a role in the death of their two-month-old son.

Julian Machado died more than seven months ago.

His parents, 21-year-old Jesus Rey Machado and 28-year-old Emma Lidia Rodriguez, called deputies to their Golden Gate home on April 19th when they discovered the baby was unresponsive and not breathing.

An autopsy report released earlier this month stated the child was found to have multiple bruises as well as swelling and softening of the brain. Ultimately, it determined the boy’s cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head and that the manner of death was homicide.

But Jesus Machado’s sisters, Mirtha and Vanara Morera, say there is more to the story. They say the two-month-old’s life was filled with medical problems.

“He was born sick. He was born with the left of his brain damaged. He had seizures from the day he was born,” said Mirtha.

The autopsy also states Machado and the mother, Emma Rodriguez, told investigators in the days before their son’s death, a baby wipe warmer had fallen on the young boy’s head. The family says the couple did everything to protect the child.

“They want to make it seem like he’s the bad father and she’s the bad mother. But it’s not like that,” said Vanara. “We know that he wouldn’t hurt his kids – him or Emma. We back up both of them 100-percent. We’re here for them.”

Warrants for his parents were immediately issued by investigators. The couple had moved to Tampa after the death of their son.

The Tampa Police Department found the couple Wednesday morning and they will soon be returned to Collier County to face charges.

Jesus Machado is charged with second degree murder and aggravated child abuse.

Emma Rodriguez is accused of aggravated child neglect.

Machado does have a three-year-old daughter from a previous relationship and family members say Rodriguez is five months pregnant.
