Three students from Montclair High School were charged on Tuesday with sexually assaulting a 16-year-old special education student at one of their homes last week, prosecutors and the police in the suburban New Jersey community said.

A law enforcement official said the three male suspects — an 18-year-old and two 16-year-olds — forced the girl to perform sex on them and abused her with a broomstick on Thursday afternoon.

“This is a horrible act,” Montclair Police Chief David P. Sabagh said at a news conference. “This is a sad day for Montclair.”

Two of the suspects, Romal Roberts, 18, and one of the 16-year-olds, were arrested on Saturday. The third suspect surrendered to the police on Tuesday, the authorities said. The three were charged with multiple counts of aggravated sexual assault.

The Essex County prosecutor, Paula T. Dow, did not say why the victim was in special education classes, but did say that some of the charges had to do with the victim’s “diminished capacity.”

Residents of Montclair, a middle-class town of about 40,000 that prides itself on its schools and its history of racial integration, were stunned by the events and its jarring similarity to others in recent years.

Gang ‘laughed as teenager was stabbed’

A gang of youths screaming “kill him” chased and stabbed a 16-year-old boy to death, the Old Bailey was told. Kodjo Yenga was ambushed by about 12 children, including two girls, armed with knives and bats, the jury heard.

Kodjo was left on the ground with a single stab wound to the heart when the gang laughed and ran away as passers-by tried to help, the court was told. Six boys, aged between 14 and 17, all deny murdering Kodjo in March last year.

Deepika Kohli was walking along Hammersmith Grove, in west London, when she spotted Kodjo running away. Sir Allan Green QC, for the prosecution, said: “Behind him was a group of 10 black youths. She noticed two girls as well. She could hear a few members of the group shouting ‘catch him, kill him’.”

Two or three members of the group caught him and appeared to stab the back of his jacket, before Kodjo managed to slip their grasp and get away. The group seemed “happy, they were laughing and smiling” and they ran off, Sir Allan told the court.

It appeared Kodjo had agreed to have a one-to-one fight with a member of the MDP gang, jurors heard. When the pair confronted each other, another eight or nine boys, including one with a bull terrier, arrived to back up their gangmate, the jury was told. The case continues.

3 Suspects in 12-Year-Old’s Death Face Fresh Charges - Emily Elizabeth Haddock

Lillington — Two of the five suspects in the slaying of a Moore County girl burglarized three other homes and stole weapons and a car during the days surrounding the girl’s death, according to indictments handed down by a Harnett County grand jury Monday.

The new indictments charge that Michael Graham Currie and Perry Ross Schiro, both 19 and of Cameron, committed a home burglary each day between Sept. 20 and Sept. 22, 2007.

A third other suspect in Emily Elizabeth Haddock’s death – Ryan Jamar White, 18, of Sanford – was also indicted for the Sept. 22 robbery.

Emily, 12, was at home sick on Sept. 21 when someone broke into her Marks Road home outside Vass and shot her several times with a .22-caliber handgun, authorities said. Investigators said they believe the intruders intended to burglarize the house and were surprised to find the girl at home.

According to the grand jury indictments, Currie carried a .22-caliber pistol when he and Schiro broke into a home on McKoy Town Road on Sept. 20. They allegedly stole a .22-caliber semi-automatic pistol, as well as jewelry, a TV set and coins valued at more than $1,000.

Jurors indicted the two for a second burglary at Castle Rock Road home in Sanford on Sept. 21 – the day Emily died. They allegedly stole a 2007 Lexus and later set it on fire. The Lexus, along with other items taken from the home, had a value close to $47,000.

On Sept. 22, Currie and Schiro allegedly broke into a home on Rhode Island Way in Cameron and stole rifles and firearms. White and Tyre Graham Richardson, 18 – who is not a suspect in Emily’s death – also face charges for that burglary.

Altogether, the grand jury indicted Currie and Schiro on 12 felony charges of breaking and entering, 10 charges of possession of a stolen firearm, two charges of larceny, two charges of possession of stolen property and one count each of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and destruction of personal property.

Schiro also face charges of cocaine possession with intent to sell and deliver and possession of a weapon of mass death and destruction stemming from an incident on July 8, 2007. The jury indicted him on a second charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Curries faces 10 additional charges of larceny of a firearm.

Currie and two other suspects in Emily’s death – Sherrod Nicholas Harrison, 20, and Van Roger Smith Jr., 16, both of Cameron – were arrested on Sept. 25. Schiro was charged two days later, and White on Oct. 4.

Prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty against Currie and Harrison, but have not decided how to treat Schiro. Smith cannot face the death penalty due to his age, and prosecutors do not believe that White was in the home at the time of the murder.

Three Soweto schoolboys were arrested yesterday in connection with the rape and murder of a 44-year-old woman on Youth Day last year.

The police in Jabulani arrested the boys, aged between 16 and 18, at their different schools – Goudveld Senior Secondary School in Langlaagte, Johannesburg, Letare High School and Jabulani Technical College.

The half-naked body of Ntombikayise Mwelase was discovered by her friend Phumla Zulu, 41, on June 17. Mwelase, who was separated from her husband, lived alone at the time.

Police said Mwelase had been raped and then strangled.

Inspector Kay Makhubela said that following the police investigation, a 17-year-old youth was eventually linked to Mwelase’s case through fingerprints.

The 17-year-old has a pending case of housebreaking and theft in Meadowlands, police said.

A warrant for his arrest was issued after he failed to appear in court on several occasions. Makhubela said police swooped on the 17-year-old’s school after he had initially resisted attempts by his parents to hand him over.

“The parents informed us where his school was and when we got there he told us who he was with on the day of the murder. He said he only raped the woman but did not kill her,” Makhubela said.

The youths are expected to appear in the Protea magistrate’s court today.

Group of Ten, Most Juveniles, Attack and Rob Two Bartlett Bikers

Two adults are charged with robbery and aggravated robbery for a brazen mid day attack on two bikers in Bartlett’s Nesbit Park, but the suspects police say, had plenty of help from eight juveniles.

“Somehow they overtook the victims, demanded their wallets, cell phones and took their bikes,” said Bartlett Lt. Rory Mack.

It happened on the Dr. King holiday when the high school and middle school aged suspects were out of school. Instead they ended up in jail. Investigators still have no clue as to why the two victims were attacked, it seems a total surprise.

“One of the victims stated they took a rest and were sitting there talking to a couple of suspects when all this went down. It was surprising to the victims.”

This whole case is still under investigation including just what kind of ties this group had as well as why a group of kids would do such a thing.

“Some of the suspects did indicate to the investigating officer that they were affiliated with gangs. What type, traditional, non traditional, we have no idea.”

Street Gang Arrested in Fast Food Robberies

For five months the robbers had it their way at burger king and dozens of other Memphis fast food restaurants. They terrorized employees and anyone else inside the places. News Channel 3 obtained video of them “taking over” the Burger King on Brooks Road.

“They’re very, almost military style the way they go in. Each person has a job function and they function well and they’re in and out in a little of no time,” said Memphis police Lt. Darren Goods.

The robbers are members of the dangerous Crips street gang. Police say they’d go in with guns, take cash from the registers and force the manager to open the safe. They did this at least 20 times.

Jonathan Williams, Mario Abston and Robert Brown and this woman Carletha Caraway are behind bars. Police say Caraway, the girlfriend of Abston, seemed just as hard core as the men.

“You can tell by their demeanor they were becoming more and more brazen, more and more violent. Some of the verbiage they used in these robberies, let us know these guys mean business and we really need to get these guys off the street,” said Goods.

Tips from witnesses about a silver Buick get-away car led police to one of the suspects and the case unfolded from there. Now, at least two of these Crips face federal charges. Soon, the others may also. Federal charges mean the suspects will likely spend more time behind bars and less time on the streets of Memphis.

Goods said, “We can put the baddest of the bad away for a long period of time thus making the streets of Memphis safer.” (LMAO @ that! The only way to make Memphis safe is to ship these baboons OUT of Memphis - like back to Afreaka!)

Police were searching Friday for three men in connection with the shooting death of a Fayetteville man a week ago.

Bobby Eugene Clemmons, 23, was left at the emergency entrance to Highsmith Rainey Hospital on Dec. 19 after being shot, and he later died, police said.

Police recovered the vehicle they believe Clemmons was in when he was dropped off at the hospital. The black Kia was located near Fordham Drive.

The location where the shooting occurred hasn’t yet been determined, police said.

David William Covington, 23, of 204 Brinkley St., was arrested Thursday and charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, conspiracy to commit murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle. He was being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center on a $210,000 secured bond.

Police were searching for the following men in the case:

Larry Donnell Everett, 23, of 1110 Clark St.; Kajuan Kenneth Toles, 24, of 827-A Orange St.; and Ricky Lavelle Martin Jr., 19, of 289 Ingram St.

Another man who was identified last week as a person of interest in the case has been questioned and released, police said.

3 men arrested who may be responsible for 13 robberies

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office says a dangerous band of armed robbers responsible for a rash of late-night hold-ups is off the streets. Authorities say three Pompano Beach men stepped into South Florida 24-hour pharmacies thirteen times this year.

“These guys forced every person to think twice about going into a drug store. We’re glad they’re off the street. They’re not going anywhere. They face life on no bond,” says Broward County Sheriff Al Lamberti.

Sheriff Lamberti and representatives of agencies from Delray Beach to Fort Lauderdale announced the arrests of Timothy Johnson, a.k.a.”Back Arms,” Gerald Joshua, a.k.a “Dread” and Deitrich Johnson, a.k.a. “Real Deal.”

“Great, I hope they stay behind bars,” says Pat Turner of Boca Raton.

“I think it’s phenomenal because people I’m sure are real at ease near these locations,” says Walgreens shopper Bob Redfern.

Investigators say the men robbed four Walgreens and CVS stores in Palm Beach County and nine in Broward between May and October.

Broward Sheriff’s Office Lt. Bill Wesolowski says the three men grew up in the same Pompano Beach neighborhood.

“They had no job. This was their job,” says Lt. Wesolowski.

Their “jobs” started and ended in Boca Raton. On May 20th, the Walgreens on SW 2nd Avenue was hit and on October 18th, CVS stores on Glades and Yamato Roads were hit.

Investigators say their evidence includes DNA, phone records, surveillance video and individual confessions.

Lt. Wesolowski says Timothy Johnson confessed to 9 of the robberies. Gerald Joshua confessed to 6 of the robberies and Deitrich Johnson was linked to all 13 of them.

“These poor employees. They’re herded from one end of the store to the other at gunpoint, forced to the ground, forced behind the counters… they can relax a little too. It had to be nerve-wracking for them,” says Delray Beach Officer Jeff Messer.

Death penalty sought in killing

CARTHAGE — Four of the five people accused of murdering Emily Haddock will face the death penalty, a Moore County assistant district attorney said Tuesday.

In October, Moore County Assistant District Attorney Peter Strickland filed paperwork asking for a Rule 24 conference. The conference notified the court, the defendants and defense lawyers that his office would be trying Michael Graham Currie, Ryan Jermar White, Perry Ross Schiro and Sherrod Nicholas Harrison for capital first-degree murder.

Moore County sheriff’s deputies believe those four men and Van Rogers Smith Jr. broke into Haddock’s home near Cameron on Sept. 21 by kicking in the back door.

Haddock, who was 12, was home sick with strep throat. She was shot once in the mouth and once in the back of the head with a .22-caliber handgun during the break-in, according to police and autopsy reports.

Her grandfather found Haddock dead about 1:30 p.m. when he came to check on her.

Last week, a Rule 24 conference was held for Currie, who is 18. Superior Court Judge James Webb granted Strickland’s request.

Strickland said similar conferences will be held Jan. 7 for White and Harrison, who are both 19, and Schiro, 20.

If any of the defendants are found not guilty of first-degree murder, the death penalty cannot be invoked.

Smith, 16, cannot be tried for a capital offense because he is not 18, Strickland said. The district attorney’s office, however, will be trying him as an adult, Strickland said.

When asked why the district attorney’s office chose to seek the death penalty, Strickland said, “Because of the evidence we have reviewed and the aggravating circumstances that exist because of the evidence. In her discretion, Miss (Maureen) Krueger felt capital murder would be appropriate for the jury to consider.”

Krueger is the district attorney for Moore County.

Schiro, one of the four who is facing the death penalty, was originally charged in September with burglary, larceny and possession of stolen property. Deputies said then that they didn’t believe he was at the Haddock home during the murder and break-in.

Schiro’s lawyer, Vincent Frank Rabil, filed a motion Nov. 30 asking for the conference to be continued. Rabil alleges that Schiro wasn’t at the crime scene.

No ruling was issued as of Tuesday.

All five defendants were indicted by a Moore County grand jury Oct. 15.

Harrison and Smith were moved to Central Prison in Raleigh on Sept. 27 for safekeeping, according to court documents.

Authorities have arrested three men in the slaying of UAB student Kayla Fanaei, who was slain in an off campus shooting in October.

One of the suspects was arrested early this morning at his girlfriend’s home. Two others were taken into custody Wednesday morning, police said.

All three are being held in the city jail on suspicion of capital murder.

Birmingham police officials declined to comment on the arrests. Police said formal warrants could come this afternoon.

Fanaei, a 20-year-old majoring in psychology, was found dead about 1 a.m. Oct. 8 in the driver’s seat of her convertible BMW in the parking lot of Glen Iris Elementary School. She had just left a surprise birthday party about five block from where she was killed.

After leaving, she pulled into the school parking lot, presumably to finish a cell phone conversation she was having with a friend who was in Auburn.

She told her friend some men were approaching her while she was parked there. She was shot once in the head area. The car, which remained in drive, rolled a short distance in the parking lot and crashed. Fanaei was pronounced dead at the scene. The convertible top and windows were up, her doors locked. Nothing was missing.

Birmingham police and U.S. Marshals have been working the case.

VILLIERS-LE-BEL, France: Rampaging youths clashed with the police for a second night in a suburb of Paris, hurling Molotov cocktails and setting fire to dozens of cars. At least 77 police officers were wounded and some officers were fired at, a senior police union official said Tuesday.

The violence overnight Monday was more intense than during three weeks of rioting in 2005, said the union official, Patrice Ribeiro. Police officers are facing “genuine urban guerillas with conventional weapons and hunting weapons,” he said.

Some officers were hit by shotgun pellets, Interior Minister Michele Alliot-Marie said. She said there were six serious wounds, “people who notably were struck in the face and close to the eyes.”

Another police union official said a round from a hunting rifle pierced the body armor of one officer, leaving him with a serious shoulder wound.

President Nicolas Sarkozy, in China on Monday on an official visit, appealed for calm.

The clashes began when two teenagers on a motorcycle died in a collision with a police car Sunday in this town of public housing blocks about 20 kilometers, or 12 miles, north of Paris. The teenagers were identified in French news reports only as Moushin, 15, and Larami, 16.

On Monday night, more than 100 youths pushed riot police officers into the middle of a four-way intersection, raining projectiles on them from at least two directions. Police officers responded with tear gas and paint guns to mark the attackers for arrest. Broken glass and spent tear-gas canisters littered the streets.

At least 36 cars were burned Monday, the authorities said, with the police guarding the local fire department and moving to protect firefighters as they put out fires. At least three buildings received some fire damage, including a library and a post office, a police spokesman said.

Many of the youths had lined up garbage cans in the middle of a street.

Firecrackers were set off and when a firebomb hit a garbage can, youths could be heard cheering. Standing on the sideline of the battles, one young man was holding a poster of one of the two dead teenagers: “Deceased 25/11/07. Dead for nothing.”

The incidents Monday night took place not far from where Moushin and Larami died, and they followed other confrontations between teenagers and the police on Sunday night.

Residents claimed that the police officers had left the crash scene without helping the teenagers. Officials cast doubt on the claim, but the internal police oversight agency said it was investigating. The police authority for the department of Val d’Oise suggested that it was an ordinary traffic accident and that the youths had ignored the right of way.

In the violence Sunday, eight people were arrested and 20 police officers were hurt - including the town’s police chief, who was hit in the face with an iron bar when he tried to negotiate with the rioters, the police said.

A study by the state auditor’s office indicated that money poured into poor French suburbs in recent decades had done little to solve problems vividly exposed by the 2005 riots, including discrimination, unemployment and alienation from mainstream French society.

The unrest in 2005 was prompted by the deaths of two teenagers who were electrocuted in a power substation while hiding from the police in another suburb northeast of Paris.

Violent Crimes Unit announces more arrests

Indianapolis - Metro Police announced more arrests Friday by the new Violent Crimes Unit. Eyewitness News first reported about the VCU after officers tracked down a suspect accused in a Broad Ripple attack.

“You’d better stop or move out the city because eventually you are going to come under our radar and I got some good people and we are going to find you and put you back in jail where you belong,” said Sgt. Kerry Buckner, IMPD Violent Crimes Unit.

The first seven VCU arrests includes Tony Mays, who also faces violent crime charges in Vigo County. VCU Officers say Cory Jordon’s (pictured above) violent crimes put him on their radar. But Doug Cure made most wanted for allegedly beating and robbing women in Broad Ripple.

“He would be in the shadows and come out with a pipe and knock them out,” said Sgt. Buckner.

VCU officers say Cure attacked a woman in Broad Ripple and a blow to the head left her blind in one eye.

The unit hopes to get back-up from the public with tips on suspect whereabouts. The VCU will also get support from other special forces who have also identified dangerous suspects.

“We have the federal, we have the state and we have local law enforcement,” said Sgt. Buckner.

The VCU couldn’t come at a better time for detectives hard hit by robberies, especially at banks. Detectives have already identified robbery suspect John Turner.

Detectives are tracing cell phone calls to help identify three people who brutally attacked and robbed a woman Sunday in Wheeling.

The victim, Nicole Voellinger, said three black females attacked her for her purse and left her unrecognizable. Her face was left bloody and swollen and she has a total of 23 staples and stitches.

The attack happened on South Penn Street, the same street police responded to days earlier for another violent robbery. Voellinger said she was outside of a bar when three women jumped and beat her.

“Why would you do something so brutal like that to somebody? There’s no reason in the world. I mean, I would give you the shirt off my back if you needed it, you know? It’s just brutal,” Voellinger said.

Police found her covered in blood and unconscious, and Voellinger said she didn’t wake up until the next day.

Voellinger, a mother of three, spent 12 hours in Wheeling Hospital’s Trauma Center after the attack and said she must undergo several rounds of plastic surgery and said she fears her face will never look the same again.

Investigators on Monday were tracing cell phone calls made on Voellinger’s stolen phone in an effort to identify her attackers. As of Monday morning, one person gave police information about the attackers’ possible identities.

WHEELING, W.Va. – Wheeling police responded to two robberies on the same street just days apart, and both times the victims were attacked.

The latest victim said she was out for a night with friends, and woke up in the hospital brutally beaten — and whoever did it, is still on the run.

Nicole Voellinger said it hurts to talk, walk, and even sleep – and she can’t understand why anyone would attack her.

The 24-year-old was attacked early Sunday morning of a bar on South Penn Street in Wheeling.

She said she remembers three black females approaching her. Then she said they jumped her for her purse.

“I was lying on the floor and I was knocked out and they kept kicking my side,” said Voellinger.

She woke up Sunday after 12 hours in the trauma center at Wheeling Hospital.

“I have staples in my forehead and I have stitches all through here,” said Voellinger.

The mother of three said she’s afraid for her boys to see her this way, but she wants to see the women who did this to her get caught.

“Why would you do something so brutal like that to somebody? There’s no reason in the world. I mean, I would give you the shirt off my back if you needed it. You know? It’s just brutal,” said Voellinger.

Wheeling police responded to a violent robbery Thursday on the same street, when a woman was stabbed while showing a house. Police said both cases are still under investigation.
