Negro college stoodent Vikram Yamba gets away with a bar shooting

Charges against a California University student accused of shooting another student at a bar in May have been dropped.

Vikram Yamba, 22, of Churchill, was accused of shooting another student in the leg with a small pistol following an argument inside P.J. McMonagle’s Bar on Union Street.

Yamba was charged with attempted homicide and aggravated assault in the case.

The District Attorney’s Officer, since the shooting, asked for as many as six continuances for Yamba on the charges.

The district justice said he had no other choice but to drop the charges on Wednesday after the district attorney showed up without the victim, witnesses or subpoenas.

According to the district justice, after six months, if the ADA has not presented any witnesses or at least subpoena witnesses, charges can be dismissed.

Yamba remains in jail on federal counterfeiting charges.
