Rapper T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris Jr., is scheduled for a 10:30 bond hearing at the Federal Courthouse in downtown Atlanta.

Earlier this week, a grand jury passed down three indictments against Harris. He is charged with possessing unregistered machine guns and silencers, unlawfully possessing machine guns, and being a convicted felon in possession of firearms.

U.S. Attorney David Nahmias said ATF agents didn’t target the famous rapper, but that’s where the evidence led them. Investigators say Harris asked his bodyguard to buy machine guns and silencers for him. Other guns were allegedly found in Harris’ College Park home.

Friday’s bond hearing before United States Magistrate Judge Alan Baverman is expected to draw a large crowd. After fans and media packed the courtroom during Harris’ initial appearance, plans have been made to move the bond hearing to a bigger courtroom.

A jury was seated to hear the trial of Kelvin Williams on charges he stabbed his younger brother to death during a pickup basketball game. Opening statements are scheduled to begin on Wednesday.

Williams, 20, is accused of murder in the February 19, 2006, stabbing of 17-year-old Sean Williams in Kingsland.

Kingsland police said the brothers were arguing over who was the better basketball player when Kelvin Williams pulled a knife.

Sean Williams was flown to Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center, where he died. Kelvin Williams was arrested and charge with family-violence homicide. He is being prosecuted as felony murder.

Police bust a suspected drug house in Cape Coral Friday and found more than just cocaine and heroin inside - they also found three children.

“There was always a lot of cars in the driveway,” said Tyler, a 5th grade student.

There’s not much traffic anymore - the SWAT team broke down the door and found four people inside.

Two of them, Brooke Amidon, 24, and Damian Babb, 22, tried to run out the back door, according to police, but they didn’t get very far.

Police found chunks of heroin, cocaine and two AK-47 assault rifles hidden underneath a pile of clothing.

But the worst part is that it was all going on in front of children ages four, five and seven.

The children are with their mother.

The other two people living in the house, Eddie and Johnny Luster, 34 and 32-years old respectively, were also arrested.

All face drug trafficking and other charges.

Police arrested U.S. Customs and Border Protection Services official with possession of drugs early Thursday.

According to officials, 53 year-old Willie Cooper, a 35 year veteran of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Services, was stopped for a traffic offense on Northwest 12th avenue and 5th street, when the officer found “smoke still coming out of his crack cocaine pipe in his car.”

Cooper was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of paraphernalia, and resisting arrest with violence. “It’s really an insult to all the law abiding, hard working officers that are securing and protecting our nation’s border everyday. At a minimum, it is very very disappointing,” said special agent Zachary Mann.

Until the arrest, Cooper had been working at Port Everglades. Copper was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal charges placed against him.

O.J. Simpson wanted armed men with him when he confronted two sports memorabilia dealers, according to a co-defendant who has agreed to plead guilty and testify against the former football star.

“O.J. said ‘Hey, just bring some firearms,’” Walter Alexander told police, according to a transcript of his tape-recorded statement obtained by The Associated Press.

Alexander told police after his arrest Sept. 15 that he and another man showed up with guns at Simpson’s request, then headed with him into a casino hotel room to retrieve collectibles that Simpson said belonged to him.

Simpson told Alexander the guns were just for show, “so that these people know that, you know, we’re here for business,” Alexander quoted Simpson as saying.

Simpson’s attorney, Yale Galanter, said Wednesday that Simpson’s position remains that there were no guns brought to the room and he did not tell anyone to bring guns.

“There was no reason for Mr. Simpson to tell anyone to bring guns. He was going to see people he knew,” Galanter said, adding that Alexander’s statement couldn’t be trusted since he was looking for lenient treatment.

Alexander, 46, told police he carried a .22-caliber handgun in his waistband and Michael McClinton, who gave him that gun, pulled a larger pistol from a holster and displayed it in the room.

Police have alleged that McClinton impersonated a law enforcement officer during the alleged robbery.

McClinton went into the room “being Mr. Tough Guy,” Alexander said, adding that McClinton’s behavior “made things a lot worse than they probably would’ve been.”

Alexander characterized Simpson as talkative during the confrontation and apparently surprised by McClinton’s aggressive actions, with Simpson saying, “Calm down, put them guns down.” McClinton responded that he needed to make sure memorabilia dealers Bruce Fromong and Alfred Beardsley weren’t armed.

“I mean, Juice had told him just to carry the gun, not to, you know, take it out, just to show it,” Alexander said, using Simpson’s nickname from his NFL days. “But now he brought the gun out and he was like, you know, ‘Up against the walls, up against the walls.’”

But in a tape recording made in the room by Thomas Riccio, the man who arranged the meeting, “Nobody reacts to a gun. Nobody says, ‘Put that gun away,’” Galanter said.

Alexander’s 45-page account, which is provided in court documents turned over by prosecutors to defense attorneys, raises the legal stakes for Simpson.

“If it’s true, it hurts O.J. tremendously,” said Edward Miley, lawyer for co-defendant Charles Cashmore, who also has agreed to a plea deal.

“It puts him at the scene where he knew there were firearms,” Miley said of Simpson. “Under conspiracy law in Nevada, he’s on the hook, if they can prove it.”

For the second time this year, the federal government has failed to stop a man infected with a dangerous strain of tuberculosis from traveling to and within the U.S.

U.S. officials this spring were unable to catch a Mexican man infected with the disease because the doctor treating the man did not know his real name, according to an official who was briefed on the incident but requested anonymity because the official was not authorized to discuss it publicly.

The Mexican national traveled to the United States 76 times in the past year, even though Mexican and U.S. authorities knew he was infected with a contagious strain of tuberculosis. However, the Mexican clinic that had been treating the man, which is affiliated with the Texas Health department, unknowingly provided a fake name to U.S. authorities, the official said. The Washington Times first reported the episode in Thursday’s editions.

The man crossed the U.S. border 21 times between April 16 and May 31. However, the man used his real name and real travel documents when traveling, according to Customs and Border Protection spokesman Michael Friel. The Centers for Disease Control would not provide the man’s real or fake names for privacy reasons.

Customs officials sent out a nationwide alert to look for this man on April 16, but officials were not able to catch him, because the alert was for the man’s fake name, Friel said.

On April 17, when Customs officials had not had any luck finding the man, they suspected they had the wrong information and alerted health officials. On May 31, the Mexican man revealed his real identity to his doctor in Mexico, according to the official.

During the same time period, U.S. officials were dealing with another man infected with tuberculosis, who also was able to travel, despite warnings.

In May an Atlanta lawyer, Andrew Speaker, was able to fly from Atlanta to Europe for his wedding and honeymoon, despite warnings from public health officials. Once he was in Europe, the CDC determined that Speaker could not be transported back to the United States because the agency did not have the equipment to safely do so for a flight longer than eight hours.

The CDC asked TSA at the time to place Speaker on its “no-fly” list so he could not re-enter the country. But there was a four-hour delay between the request and the listing. Speaker got back into the U.S. through Canada, despite instructions to Customs and Border Patrol officers not to allow him in. The 18-year veteran inspector who ignored the warning has retired.

The Mexican man had been infected with tuberculosis for five years, but was being treated under a different name, according to the official who requested anonymity. Homeland Security officials have confirmed that the man is currently living in his home in Juarez, Mexico.

DETROIT — Two adults and two children were fatally shot as they slept Thursday in a home known for drug activity, renewing pleas for community members to take more responsibility in the fight against violence.

Police were questioning someone found with the adult male victim’s vehicle, which they think the shooter took, Sgt. Eren Stephens Bell said. Police did not discuss a possible motive.

Officers found no signs of forced entry after getting the call around 3:30 a.m., and the doors and windows of the two-story brick bungalow were reinforced with two-by-fours and locks, Police Chief Ella Bully-Cummings said. The bodies of the children were found in one room, police said, while the bodies of the adults were in another.

Police have responded to the house in the past on reports of shots fired and narcotics complaints, Bully-Cummings said. A gun was not found at the scene, but casings from a high-powered weapon were recovered, she said.

“I’m tired of seeing our children die,” the chief said. “We as adults have a responsibility to our children to allow them to grow up as adults in a safe environment, and we’re failing them.”

Pandora Eppinger said her niece, 9-year-old Alexus Eppinger, and nephew, 5-year-old Terrence Eppinger Jr., were killed.

“It’s scary out here. You can’t go out anywhere and feel safe,” Eppinger said.

“They were just little, sweet kids,” she said. “Why would they do that?”

The children’s mother, Lynnette Lawson, 28, and Jason Davis, 34, also died, according to the Wayne County medical examiner’s office and relatives who gathered in the morning rain near the home. The boy died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen, and the others were shot multiple times at close range, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Georgia Davis, 53, said her son, Jason, had been dating Lawson recently.

“Why would someone kill those kids?” she said. “They’re crazy.”

Bully-Cummings, speaking to reporters on the street just hours after the shootings, reiterated a plea for Detroiters to take responsibility for the community, one she has made repeatedly since taking the job in 2003.

In 2004, she and other officials joined a coalition of ministers in prayer as they called on residents to join them in ending a culture of violence in the city. But the killings have continued.

The four were killed a day after a man and woman were convicted of murdering two boys who were shot in a ransacked Detroit apartment in February. Authorities say they planned to kidnap the boys’ cousin and rob him of cocaine and cash.

Three additional suspects are awaiting trial. A sixth suspect pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.

In September, police said four people were killed in a shooting at a home where a large amount of illegal drugs were found. The county prosecutor’s office said a man is facing four murder charges.

Deondrey Peterson, 33, lives near the scene of Thursday’s killings and said he wants to move out of Detroit because of such violence.

“It’s ridiculous. It’s senseless,” Peterson said. “My main concern is the kids. … How are we going to have a future?”

A Moore County jury handed up four death sentences Wednesday in the trial of a man found guilty of killing four people in a December 2003 robbery.

The jury took about four hours to decide the punishment of Mario Lynn Phillips, 35, who was the first of three people to go to trial for the quadruple homicide.

Eddie Ryals, 21, Carl Garrison Justice, 18, and Harvey Darrell Hobson, 20, all of Carthage, and Joseph Allen Harden, 19, of Vass, were killed on Dec. 19, 2003, in a mobile home on Heron Road, east of Carthage. All four had been shot and stabbed in what authorities said was a robbery. They said the three suspects made off with $170.

Amanda Cook Varner, who survived being shot twice and stabbed 22 times that day, identified Phillips as the gunman and said Renee Yvette McLaughlin and Sean Maurice Ray assisted him in the crime.

Defense attorneys tried to convince jurors that Phillips shouldn’t be convicted of first-degree murder in the case because he is mentally ill, was addicted to drugs at the time and somehow thought his friends were responsible for shooting his brother in Fayetteville earlier that same day.

The sentence comes as questions about North Carolina’s death penalty have put executions on hold.

In August, Superior Court Judge Donald Stephens ruled that the North Carolina Medical Board overstepped its authority when it adopted a policy that threatened to punish physicians for participating in executions.

The state Department of Correction sued the board in March, saying no physicians were willing to attend an execution, which state policy requires, for fear of losing his or her medical license.

Last month, attorneys for death-row inmates asked state officials to put off possible changes to North Carolina’s execution protocol in light of the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent decision to address the constitutionality of lethal injections.

2nd man arrested; police say he played indirect role after fact

Police have arrested two men in connection with a brutal Wednesday morning rape in which the victim was hit several times in the head with a 2-by-4.

Jequan Sloan was arrested Thursday morning — a little more than a day after the assault in Grier Heights. Police charged him with attempted murder, rape, sex offense, kidnapping and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Sloan, 27, has an extensive arrest history, according to court records. In 2002, he was sentenced to more than a year in prison for selling cocaine. The court has also banned him from several east Charlotte apartment complexes.

Officers also arrested a man they believe played an indirect role in the sexual assault and beating. Kevin Martel Laney, 23, was charged with accessory to a felony after the fact and possession of a firearm by a felon. Laney was in Mecklenburg jail on $100,000 bond.

He was found guilty of possessing marijuana with intent to distribute in 2004. He also has pending trials for several charges that include maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of selling or using drugs.

On Wednesday, witnesses said they heard a woman screaming outside a vacant apartment on Billingsley Road just before 6 a.m. They said they saw a man punch the woman in the face and knock her down. He then hit her in the back of the head repeatedly with a board, the witnesses said.

Witnesses, who did not want their names used, hid their children and were afraid to intervene in the attack. But they did call 911.

One of the witnesses said the attacker put down a silver handgun while he used the board to hit the woman, who was nude from the waist down.

The attacker paced back and forth near the injured woman, the witnesses said, until sirens could be heard. He then ran away.

The woman was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, but police did not have an update on her condition.

Putin speaks of Russian nuclear expansion

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said his country is working on new types of nuclear weapons as part of a ‘grandiose’ plan to boost the country’s defences.

He said it will develop missile technology including completely new strategic nuclear complexes, saying Russia’s armed forces would be more compact but more effective.

Mr Putin described the plans as fully realistic in an annual televised question-and-answer session with Russian citizens.

The televised event attracted more than one million questions by email, text and phone, including a number relating to his plans once his second term as president ends in March.

Under the Russian constitution, the 55-year-old is barred from seeking a third consecutive term in office.

However, Mr Putin has only confirmed that he will leave the Kremlin, but says he will continue to play some unspecified political role.

Adding to the mystery, no major politician has yet expressed interest in seeking the presidency, while polls indicate the parliamentary election will give Mr Putin’s United Russia party an overwhelming majority.

Speculation is mounting that he will seek to remain in control even after quitting the Kremlin, possibly in a newly empowered Prime Minister’s post. It is then thought he may return to the Kremlin for a third term after a break, something the constitution allows.

ROCKY MOUNTY, N.C. – A woman is dead and another injured after being stabbed at a Baptist church Thursday morning.

According to Rocky Mount Police, a call came in at around 9 a.m. for a disturbance at the Lakeside Baptist Church.

When officers arrived, they found 57-year-old Debbie Kornegay and Eve Beasley in the kitchen with stab wounds.

Korngay was transported to Nash General Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Beasley was airlifted to Pitt Memorial and her condition is unknown.

Both victims were volunteers for the church’s “Meals on Wheels” program.

Police are looking for a suspect vehicle that belonged to one of the victims. The vehicle is a charcoal gray GM Yukon with N.C. tag PYA3886. Officers add that also located on the vehicle either above or below the inspection sticker is a 3×3 bright red ferry pass.

Rocky Mount PD is looking for a black male in his late 20’s-30’s described at 6’2, weighing 200 pounds. The suspect has a medium complexion with a moustache and was last seen wearing a short sleeve extended, long white t-shirt, dark or black jeans with some gray in them. The suspect also may have a number of tattoos on both forearms up to his elbows.

Police believe the motive to be robbery and are asking if anyone has information about the stabbing to call CrimeStoppers at 252-977-1111.

Statements China Arnold made to authorities about the death of her infant daughter are admissible in court, Montgomery County Common Pleas Judge John Kessler ruled this week.

Police say Arnold told investigators shortly after her daughter was found dead on Aug. 30, 2005, that she was so intoxicated the night before her baby died, she didn’t know what caused the infant’s fatal burns. Arnold, 27, is accused of killing her 3 1/2 week old daughter by putting her in a microwave oven.

Kessler ruled in July that statements made in August, 2005, were admissible. But he postponed a decision on motions to suppress Arnold’s alleged statements after her arrest on Nov. 22, 2006.

Arnold’s attorneys, John H. Rion and Jon Paul Rion, asked that statements after the arrest be ruled inadmissible on the grounds that they were obtained as the fruit of a faulty arrest. They argued that the affidavit used to obtain a warrant for Arnold’s arrest didn’t contain enough information to provide probable cause for a warrant to be issued.

In a ruling issued Tuesday, Kessler agreed that the affidavit was insufficient. But he said that before the arrest could be ruled invalid, the defendant would have had to prove the statements made to obtain the warrant “were made with reckless disregard of whether they would mislead the issuing authority.”

Kessler also ruled that the arrest was valid because Arnold was arrested on her porch, a public place, instead of inside her house. Kessler ruled that testimony from an Arnold relative that she was arrested inside the house was not as credible as testimony from police saying she was arrested outside.

Charges against a California University student accused of shooting another student at a bar in May have been dropped.

Vikram Yamba, 22, of Churchill, was accused of shooting another student in the leg with a small pistol following an argument inside P.J. McMonagle’s Bar on Union Street.

Yamba was charged with attempted homicide and aggravated assault in the case.

The District Attorney’s Officer, since the shooting, asked for as many as six continuances for Yamba on the charges.

The district justice said he had no other choice but to drop the charges on Wednesday after the district attorney showed up without the victim, witnesses or subpoenas.

According to the district justice, after six months, if the ADA has not presented any witnesses or at least subpoena witnesses, charges can be dismissed.

Yamba remains in jail on federal counterfeiting charges.

Police are searching for the person who stole an 83-year-old man’s wallet in Washington County and then used it to purchase more than $100 worth of goods from a Target store.

Police said the man’s wallet was stolen while he was at Wal-Mart in Washington.

The thief was then caught on surveillance at a Target store, using the credit card to purchase $112 worth of merchandise.

After making the purchase, police said the man tried to get a $4,000 money advance.

Trial For Man Accused In Trooper’s Slaying Continues With DNA Testimony

The controversial homicide trial of Leslie Mollett, who’s accused of shooting and killing state police Cpl. Joseph Pokorny, continued on Thursday in Pittsburgh.

Prosecutors said Mollett shot Pokorny to death when the two struggled during a traffic stop off the Parkway West in Carnegie in December 2005.

On Thursday, prosecutors said 45 items were submitted for DNA testing, which included items taken from the crime scene, Mollett’s girlfriend’s apartment and other areas.

Investigators from the state police crime lab said Pokorny’s left hand lacked significant amounts of gunpowder residue; therefore, they cannot say Pokorny fired his own weapon.

On Thursday, a forensic scientist who looked at most of the DNA found at the scene of the slaying spent most of the day explaining to the jury what DNA is and how it is analyzed.

She told the jury that blood found on Pokorny’s vehicle and gun holster came from him. But, she said, Mollett’s DNA was found on several items left at the scene, including an inhaler, gun magazine, knit cap and fur coat.

Police have arrested a teenage boy who they believe killed an elderly Clairton woman earlier this month.

Neighbors found Florence Ranta, 82, on her living room floor on North Third Street on Oct. 6. Police said she had been stabbed and had neck and head wounds.

Johnie Washington, 15, of Clairton, was arrested on Tuesday afternoon and charged as an adult with homicide, burglary, robbery and theft, police said.

According to the criminal complaint, Washington stabbed Ranta repeatedly in her head and neck. The floors, walls and furniture of her home were covered in her blood.

Police said the phone line was cut, and Washington’s thumbprint was found near that spot. The report also said several witnesses saw Washington driving Ranta’s car after the stabbing.

Police also said the teen’s bloody tennis shoes were found on steps inside his home. He lived close to Ranta with his mother and younger sister, police said.

Washington played midget football under Bill Bradford until last year when Bradford said he “saw a change in him.”

According to Bradford, Washington started hanging around a “different crowd,” and he started hearing rumors that the boy was getting into trouble.

Fury at DNA pioneer’s theory: Africans are less intelligent than Westerners

Celebrated scientist attacked for race comments: “All our social policies are based on the fact that their intelligence is the same as ours - whereas all the testing says not really”

One of the world’s most eminent scientists was embroiled in an extraordinary row last night after he claimed that black people were less intelligent than white people and the idea that “equal powers of reason” were shared across racial groups was a delusion.

James Watson, a Nobel Prize winner for his part in the unravelling of DNA who now runs one of America’s leading scientific research institutions, drew widespread condemnation for comments he made ahead of his arrival in Britain today for a speaking tour at venues including the Science Museum in London.

The 79-year-old geneticist reopened the explosive debate about race and science in a newspaper interview in which he said Western policies towards African countries were wrongly based on an assumption that black people were as clever as their white counterparts when “testing” suggested the contrary. He claimed genes responsible for creating differences in human intelligence could be found within a decade.

The newly formed Equality and Human Rights Commission, successor to the Commission for Racial Equality, said it was studying Dr Watson’s remarks ” in full”. Dr Watson told The Sunday Times that he was “inherently gloomy about the prospect of Africa” because “all our social policies are based on the fact that their intelligence is the same as ours – whereas all the testing says not really”. He said there was a natural desire that all human beings should be equal but “people who have to deal with black employees find this not true”.

His views are also reflected in a book published next week, in which he writes: “There is no firm reason to anticipate that the intellectual capacities of peoples geographically separated in their evolution should prove to have evolved identically.

Our wanting to reserve equal powers of reason as some universal heritage of humanity will not be enough to make it so.”

The furore echoes the controversy created in the 1990s by The Bell Curve, a book co-authored by the American political scientist Charles Murray, which suggested differences in IQ were genetic and discussed the implications of a racial divide in intelligence. The work was heavily criticised across the world, in particular by leading scientists who described it as a work of ” scientific racism”.

Dr Watson arrives in Britain today for a speaking tour to publicise his latest book, Avoid Boring People: Lessons from a Life in Science. Among his first engagements is a speech to an audience at the Science Museum organised by the Dana Centre, which held a discussion last night on the history of scientific racism.

Critics of Dr Watson said there should be a robust response to his views across the spheres of politics and science. Keith Vaz, the Labour chairman of the Home Affairs Select Committee, said: “It is sad to see a scientist of such achievement making such baseless, unscientific and extremely offensive comments. I am sure the scientific community will roundly reject what appear to be Dr Watson’s personal prejudices.

“These comments serve as a reminder of the attitudes which can still exists at the highest professional levels.”

The American scientist earned a place in the history of great scientific breakthroughs of the 20th century when he worked at the University of Cambridge in the 1950s and 1960s and formed part of the team which discovered the structure of DNA. He shared the 1962 Nobel Prize for medicine with his British colleague Francis Crick and New Zealand-born Maurice Wilkins.

But despite serving for 50 years as a director of the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory on Long Island, considered a world leader in research into cancer and genetics, Dr Watson has frequently courted controversy with some of his views on politics, sexuality and race. The respected journal Science wrote in 1990: “To many in the scientific community, Watson has long been something of a wild man, and his colleagues tend to hold their collective breath whenever he veers from the script.”

In 1997, he told a British newspaper that a woman should have the right to abort her unborn child if tests could determine it would be homosexual. He later insisted he was talking about a “hypothetical” choice which could never be applied. He has also suggested a link between skin colour and sex drive, positing the theory that black people have higher libidos, and argued in favour of genetic screening and engineering on the basis that ” stupidity” could one day be cured. The Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory said yesterday that Dr Watson could not be contacted to comment on his remarks.

Steven Rose, a professor of biological sciences at the Open University and a founder member of the Society for Social Responsibility in Science, said: ” This is Watson at his most scandalous. He has said similar things about women before but I have never heard him get into this racist terrain. If he knew the literature in the subject he would know he was out of his depth scientifically, quite apart from socially and politically.”

Anti-racism campaigners called for Dr Watson’s remarks to be looked at in the context of racial hatred laws. A spokesman for the 1990 Trust, a black human rights group, said: “It is astonishing that a man of such distinction should make comments that seem to perpetuate racism in this way. It amounts to fuelling bigotry and we would like it to be looked at for grounds of legal complaint.”

Bush, who delivered a sanguine assessment of Russian President Vladimir Putin shortly after taking office, presented a different view of his Kremlin counterpart Wednesday.

“He was wily. He wouldn’t tip his hand,” Bush said of his most recent encounter with Putin.

The president was referring to Putin’s refusal during their meeting in September in Australia to reveal the contenders to succeed Putin. The Russian president’s second term ends next spring.

Bush’s comments reflected the cooling that has marked U.S.-Russian relations.

The two countries have diverged over U.S. concerns about the Kremlin’s commitment to democracy and over foreign-policy differences, notably toward Iran.

Suggesting he was not optimistic about Russia’s political course, Bush said: “In terms of whether or not it’s possible to reprogram the kind of basic Russian DNA, which is a centralized authority, that’s hard to do.”

But he said he and Putin, who visited Tehran, Iran’s capital, this week, continue to agree that “it’s not in the world’s interest for Iran to have the capacity to make a nuclear weapon.”

“We got a leader in Iran who has announced that he wants to destroy Israel,” Bush said of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. ***(see below)

In Tehran on Tuesday, Putin defended Iran’s right to develop a civilian nuclear-power program, a statement that contrasted with the Bush administration’s expectation that he would take a harder line toward Ahmadinejad’s uranium-enrichment ambitions.

For the second consecutive news conference, Bush was adamant in his refusal to discuss what has been reported as an Israeli air attack on a site in Syria in early September.

Albany — The family of a Lee County teenager found dead in the Flint River Thursday night found one of his shoes in the river Tuesday.

Family and friends of 19 year old Justin Cox went to the Turner Boat Landing Tuesday afternoon to look at the spot where his body was found. While there, they found one of the shoes that Cox was wearing when he was beaten to death.

Arrest made in Flint River murder

In a press conference this afternoon, the Albany Police Department announced the arrest of 20-year-old Kasaem Toomer, for the murder of 19-year-old Justin Cox, whose body was pulled from the Flint River on October 4th.

Police officials say that Toomer and Cox got into an argument October third at the Turner boat landing on the river, which led to fisticuffs, ending in Cox’s death. His body was discovered by people fishing in the area a day later.

“Fisticuffs” my ass, we know who told the cops that, there’s only one person who could have, the lying nigger. As soon as they catch the other nigger and the stories don’t jibe, the truth will come out. They saw a cracker, they attacked, they beat him to death and they dropped him in the river. Cox’s family proclaimed from the beginning that their son had been murdered. APD says that Toomer has confessed to killing Cox.

APD says the department is looking for Lorenzo Williams, who is in his late teens or early twenties, as a person of interest in the case. They have not said that he is a suspect.

Cox was the ninth murder in Albany this year, and arrests have been made in all nine.

N.C. — Gastonia police arrested a Paul Perryman of Mobile, AL early Tuesday morning on murder charges.

Perryman is the fourth suspect arrested in the shooting death of Demarreo Beard in November 2006.

Police say Perryman also shot at Sadie Derr. Derr was able to run away.

Perryman is expected in court Tuesday afternoon.

Police have released the name of a suspect in a deadly shooting over the weekend in Lincolnton.

Officers say Kenneth Nixon, 44, shot William Bracey, 37, around 11 p.m. Saturday outside a home on East Pine Street. Bracey walked a block and a half to the police department and collapsed.

Desk workers spotted the man on surveillance tape staggering through the parking lot.

When he disappeared from view, one went outside and found Bracey on the ground. The desk workers and neighbors helped them as best they could while waiting for paramedics.

An ambulance then rushed the injured man to the hospital, where he died.

Bracey’s family members said he and Nixon knew each other well. Police said they believe the men had been feuding and got into an argument just before the shooting.

Nixon is now charged with first-degree murder.

The face of Jackie “Angel” Curtis haunted Maya Derkovic for the past nine months.

Finally, the 18-year-old gang member and Orange County Jail inmate couldn’t keep her secret anymore.

In an effort to find peace, she told a jailer and later detectives how she choked 15-year-old Angel while two fellow gang members held the victim’s arms.

Derkovic’s story helped unravel a mystery that began Jan. 18 when Angel’s badly decomposed body was found along the edge of a retention pond near Goldenrod Road.

“What I did was terribly wrong,” Derkovic told the Orlando Sentinel in an exclusive interview from jail Monday night. “It’s time to ‘fess up to what I did and do the right thing.”

The Sheriff’s Office has charged Amiri “Sin” Lundy, 20; Dominique “D” Tolbert, 19; and Derkovic with killing Angel in an act of crude gang justice.

Lundy headed the 3rd World Rolling Sixties — a spinoff of the West Coast Crips, according to court records and interviews Monday. Known as “O.G.,” or the “Original Gangsta, ” he also was an ex-boyfriend of the girl whom he, Derkovic and Tolbert are accused of killing.

All three lured Angel to a retention pond near Goldenrod Road intending to kill her, said sheriff’s homicide Detective Brian Cross.

“She was set up,” Cross said Monday. “She knew these people and trusted them.”

Shortly after New Year’s Day, Derkovic told the Sentinel, Lundy grew paranoid that Angel was trying to set up him and his family to be attacked by the rival gang she belonged to. He accused her of stealing Lundy’s special book that held secrets and rules of the Rolling Sixties.

That’s when the idea of killing Angel came up, said Derkovic, who was the highest-ranking female in the gang and a friend of the victim.

“He made her seem to be like a spy.”

A few nights later — Derkovic said she thinks it was Jan. 9 — she and Tolbert were walking to her job at a bakery on Goldenrod Road. Lundy joined the two, telling them he had called Angel to meet them at a Hess gas station nearby.

When Angel showed up, the four walked toward the bakery. One of the men, Derkovic said, handed her a knife he had wrapped in a bandanna.

“He said, ‘You know what that’s for?’ and I said, ‘I know what you are talking about.’ “

They hung out in the neighborhood behind the bakery, ending up at the overgrown pond at the end of Alachua Street.

Angel borrowed Lundy’s phone to call for a ride home. After she handed the phone back, “I grabbed her,” Derkovic said.

Derkovic pulled out the knife, and the women struggled. Angel grabbed the weapon, and it broke. At one point, Angel grabbed Derkovic’s bandanna with her bloody hand.

Then the two men grabbed the victim’s arms, she said.

“That’s when I got on top of her,” Derkovic said. Derkovic said she grabbed Angel’s throat and pushed. Then she eased the pressure and pushed again.

Brother arrested in ‘87 death of 9-year-old girl

Santa Ana police detectives use DNA testing, arrest Rosendo Lopez in killing of his sister

SANTA ANA – “Who would hurt my sweet little sister?” Rosendo Lopez asked more than two decades ago on the day that neighborhood children stumbled across the bludgeoned body of 9-year-old Patricia Lopez.

“We’re going to find that sick guy and hang him high from a tree,” Lopez, who was then 21, told reporters as his family and friends gathered in grief outside his parents’ home in west Santa Ana in June 1987.

On Monday – 20 years later – Lopez was in court facing a charge that he killed his little sister.

He was arrested last week after Santa Ana police cold-case detectives re-evaluated DNA evidence collected in 1987 that had not been tested using modern forensic technology, said police Sgt. Lorenzo Carrillo.

Forensic examiners from the Orange County Sheriff’s crime lab determined that the genetic material came from her brother, Carrillo said.

On Thursday, Lopez agreed to talk with Santa Ana detectives Louie Martinez and Frank Fajardo about the case. After the interview, Lopez, now 42, was arrested and held in lieu of $1 million bail on suspicion of murder.

Lopez had never before been a suspect in his sister’s murder.

His family declined comment on the case Monday. Modesta Lopez – Rosendo and Patricia’s mother – and a brother brushed off questions when contacted at their apartment on Oak Street.

Modesta Lopez and several relatives and friends also declined to comment when they showed up in court Monday afternoon.

Superior Court Judge Kazuharu Makino postponed Lopez’s arraignment on one count of murder to Nov. 8 after family members told court officials they were trying to hire a lawyer. If convicted, Lopez could be sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.

Deputy District Attorney Larry Yellin said the case would not have been solved without the DNA evidence.

Boyfriend Charged in Strangulation of Pregnant Woman

A 33-year-old North Hollywood man is accused of choking his girlfriend — who was four and a half months pregnant — because she disrespected him, then dumping her body in an alley behind a North Hollywood house, police said this morning.

Michael LaBrunda was booked into the Los Angeles County Jail on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of Alisha Johnson, 21, of Westminster, said Los Angeles Police Detective Rich Wheeler. “It’s tragic,” Wheeler said. “She didn’t deserve this. She’s 21. And like all 21-year-olds, she was starting her life out.”

LaBrunda told police that he choked her in his car after she disrespected him, Wheeler said. He was being held without bail in jail. Police expect to file two counts of murder for Johnson and her unborn baby within the next day. LaBrunda has a criminal history dating back seven years including misdemeanor battery against a spouse, corporal injury on a child, resisting arrest, assault and a felony carjacking, according to the Los Angeles County Superior Court public information office.

It was just the way people were.

That was in a White world. The mistake that really wasn‘t a mistake but an illogical “move“ was this . . . it‘s no longer a White world. Matter of fact, in quite a few areas in America, it’s an anti-White world. As he attempted to sell his stereo, a nigger and a spigger came up and shot him to death. A Stamford man surrendered to police Sunday and was charged with murder in the stabbing death of his ex-girlfriend, police say.

Juan Botello, 20, also was charged with larceny, police said.

Layla R. Banks, 21, of Greenwich was repeatedly stabbed. Her body was discovered just after 6 a.m. Saturday in a service hallway near the Sheraton Stamford Hotel’s main lobby, police said.

Botello and Banks attended the party separately, police Capt. Richard Conklin said at a news conference Sunday.

As Banks left the party at about 5:30 a.m., Botello followed her down a stairwell before forcing her into a service hallway on the first floor and killing her, police said, according to The Advocate of Stamford. Police say he fled through an emergency door and stole a car from the house where he had been living in the basement for about two months.

Botello, whose full name is Juan Diego Botello Garcia, according to police, is scheduled to appear in court Monday. Bond was set at $1.025 million.

He remains in custody and is not yet represented by a lawyer, Conklin said.

Suspect arraigned in murder of Riverside woman

A Stamford man has been arraigned on a murder charge in the death of 21-year-old Riverside resident Layla Banks.

Juan Botello, 20, has been charged with murder and second degree larceny in connection with the death early Saturday morning of Ms. Banks, his former girlfriend. Mr. Botello appeared in Stamford Superior Court Monday morning and was arraigned on the charges. Judge Robin Pavia doubled the bond for Mr. Botello to $2,050,000 at the arraignment.

Ms. Banks was stabbed to death at the Sheraton Hotel on Summer Street in Stamford after attending a party there late Friday night. Stamford police termed the stabbing as “brutal” and said she suffered multiple wounds to her upper body, neck, face and chest, as well as “defensive wounds” to her hands and arms, indicating she fought back against her attacker. An exact number of wounds will be determined by the autopsy.

Police also charged Mr. Botello with larceny after he allegedly stole a car from the nearby home he was living in to flee from Stamford. He turned himself in at police headquarters at 1 a.m. Sunday after police spent Saturday seeking him as a suspect. Stamford Police Department Public Information Officer Lt. Sean Cooney told the Post that Mr. Botello gave police an eight-page “statement” after he was taken into custody.

“He made a number of admissions in that,” Lt. Cooney said. “He told us a number of things that you could accurately describe as a confession.”

Horror writer held over human flesh in kitchen

A Mexican horror writer has been arrested after police found a frying pan containing flesh thought to be that of his girlfriend.

Officers were called to the Jose Luis Calva’s flat in Mexico City after neighbours complained of strange smells coming from inside.

They found a woman’s torso in a cupboard, a leg in the fridge and bones in a cereal box.

Calva said that he had cooked some of his girlfriend’s flesh but had not eaten it.

Officer found the draft of a novel in the flat entitled Cannibalistic Instincts.

Police are investigating the disappearance of Calva’s girlfriend Alejandra Galeana, a 30-year-old pharmacy clerk.

Ms Galeana’s family reported her missing last week and told police about her relationship with Calva.

Police are also investigating the deaths of two women who were found mutilated in Mexico City, one of whom is an ex-girlfriend of Calva.

When officers tried to arrest the suspect he fled and was hit by a car. He is recovering in hospital.

One of Calva’s neighbours, Fermin Cruz, said that the man “seemed ill humoured at times,” adding, “one time he slammed the door on me.”

Craig Cagley was born into a fight. He planned on spending the rest of his life trying to prevent more of them.

Born to a drug-addicted mother, he was brought into UC Davis Medical Center in a coma when he was 4 months old, his family said. Battling a metabolic disease that makes it difficult to digest fat and can often lead to death in babies, he recovered and began a back-and-forth odyssey between his birth parents and foster care.

One of the nurses the day he was brought to the hospital was Kathleen Short, a woman who would eventually welcome Cagley into the foster home she runs with her husband, Jim. Cagley, Short said, was “a gorgeous, bold, fat” little baby who would one day grow up to call the Shorts “mom” and “dad.”

“He had everything uphill,” Kathleen Short said Tuesday.

That battle helped serve as an inspiration for Cagley’s plan to become a Sacramento sheriff’s deputy, a plan cut short when he was shot and killed early Saturday during what authorities said was a robbery inside a Carmichael apartment.

As Cagley’s loved ones were coping with their loss, detectives with the department he wanted to join were investigating his homicide. That investigation culminated in the arrests Monday night of 22-year-old Willie Walker and 25-year-old Adaryll Weaver, said Sacramento Sheriff’s Sgt. Tim Curran.

Cagley, 20, and a few friends were enjoying a guy’s night out Friday, playing video games and celebrating the fact that a friend’s girlfriend was about to have a baby. Cagley had a couple of beers and didn’t want to drive home, so he stayed at the apartment on Fair Oaks Boulevard.

“Craig had the maturity to know not to drive, to make the right choice, and that choice cost him his life,” Kathleen Short said.

According to investigators, Walker and Weaver forced their way into the apartment. Cagley was shot once in the head and his friend pistol-whipped, detectives said.

Detectives are investigating what the suspects stole, but they do not believe it was much, Curran said. Weaver lives in the apartment complex where the shooting occurred, Curran said.

Cagley was not a violent man, and his most serious run-in with the law was a traffic ticket, his family said. He was a jovial, popular student at Del Campo High School and, according to his girlfriend, Rachel Carter, “would literally be the guy who walked old ladies across the street.”

In preparing for his career as a deputy, Cagley worked as a security guard and last week signed up for criminal justice courses at Sierra College.

“He saw lives destroyed, and he wanted to be on the opposite end,” Kathleen Short said, adding Cagley had not spoken to his birth mother in 12 years, and his birth father died when he was 5 years old. “That his life should be taken like this when he beat so much is so wrong.”

Cagley planned to one day marry Carter, his high school sweetheart, but the couple were waiting until he had entered the sheriff’s academy and she had completed more classes at Sacramento State. In the meantime, Carter gladly put up with Cagley’s singing in the shower and the long conversations he would enter into with strangers at the grocery store.

“Everywhere he went, he knew someone or made friends,” she said. “He had so much energy.”

Cagley spoke often of his plans to join the Sheriff’s Department, saying that he would like to one day become an officer with the SWAT team. He admitted to dreaming of being a hero, although his family said they doubted he would ever have the heart to pull the trigger of a gun.

“We always worried about Craig because of his hero complex, but his death had nothing to do with that,” said Kyle Short, his brother.

The funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Green Valley Mortuary & Cemetery in Rescue.

Halloween will again be celebrated at the Hoynes home, 23 years after tragedy.

The news came to Wendy Castaneda on Halloween 1984 when, dressed as a lion, the then-16-year-old was pulled from her biology class.

Her cousin was waiting in the hall, crying.

“Robin was stabbed at work last night,” her cousin said of Castaneda’s sister.

“Did she die?” Castaneda remembers asking.

“Yeah, she did.”

Looking back on that day, Castaneda said she was in shock, unable to fathom such overwhelming loss.

Robin Hoynes, her 21-year-old sister, best friend, roommate and second pea in her pod, was brutally slain the night before at a Torrance Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant that she managed.

Robin’s death plunged her close-knit Whittier family, which included her three sisters, into grief and despair. Much later they would begin to heal. And 23 years later, they saw justice.

Gilbert Kranke and Andrew Conahan were convinced they knew who killed Robin.

said the evidence against William Charles Marshall was mounting in the days after Robin’s slaying.

Marshall, who became assistant manager at the KFC in early October 1984, was the main suspect in two thefts at the restaurant that month.

He was fired just days before Robin’s death.

Within 10 days of the slaying, Marshall appeared two times — late at night, wearing gloves — at a Fountain Valley KFC, where he previously worked.

Conahan, who was part of the Police Department’s Crime Impact Team, watched Marshall on Nov. 10, 1984, as he drove erratically to the Fountain Valley restaurant, and lurked around after closing time.

“It just kind of sent chills down your spine,” Conahan said.

All the officers thought it was unusual for a robber to try to pull off such a crime so soon after committing a similar one.

Kranke, a retired homicide investigator, helped with Marshall’s arrest that night.

Kranke found a boning knife in Marshall’s bag, and thought he had uncovered the murder weapon.

But Marshall was released.

“In those days, it was pretty much you had to have an eyeball witness, direct evidence or a confession — and if you didn’t have any of that, it was pretty hard to get a case filed,” Kranke said.

“The reasoning was, if you don’t have a dead-bang case, then you hold on, and maybe get some evidence down the line,” Kranke said.

“It’s tough to take.”

Dad of slain EMU student talks; jury selection to start

HASTINGS — Bob Dickinson has stopped trying to wrap words around his grief. The regulars at the family’s State Grounds coffee shop know that.

“I think we all agreed to stop asking, ‘How you doing?’ Stop asking the question. It just doesn’t fit. … So we just say, ‘Hi,’ ” Dickinson said.

Today, in a Washtenaw County courtroom two hours from this town near Grand Rapids, jury selection begins in the trial of a 21-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting and killing Dickinson’s daughter, Laura, in her Eastern Michigan University dorm room Dec. 13.

The medical examiner ruled her cause of death as asphyxiation.

DNA evidence, investigators said, puts Orange Taylor III of Southfield, an EMU student at the time, at the scene.

The case has infuriated EMU students and their families. For more than two months after Laura’s body was found, university officials insisted they did not suspect foul play. It was only after Taylor’s arrest in February that investigators acknowledged that Laura, a 22-year-old studying nutrition and dietetics, had been killed.

EMU President John Fallon was fired. Two others — EMU’s police chief and vice president of student affairs — stepped down.

And last week, in the same Ann Arbor courthouse where Taylor will be tried on the charge of open murder, Fallon answered critics with a civil suit that accuses subordinates of covering up the crime, accuses the school’s Board of Regents of doing business in secret, and accuses the board’s chairman of using the furor over the case to extort a resignation from Fallon.

In the basement of his packed coffee shop Friday evening, Laura’s slender, bespectacled father shook his head.

The case? He doesn’t want to talk about it.

EMU’s actions? Leave it to the courts to sort out.

He would say only that he, too, was stunned to learn Feb. 23 that his only daughter had been killed — the same day the rest of the student body found out. He believed what the university had told him — that there was no foul play.

So what was worse? … He held up a hand to stop yet another question he’s heard too often: “They’re equal. Hearing it the second time was no different than hearing it the first time. It was awful.”

A halfway house is a partially-supervised environment in which as long as he complies with the conditions of his release, he will be permitted to engage in normal activities during the business day. These activities include making a living. His large family will benefit.

However, when one is released from prison, one is usually tossed back into society with a minimal grubstake. This hinders one’s ability to make a successful transition to free society; indeed, this failure contributes towards recidivism.

A man tried to kidnap a 7-year-old girl while she was walking to school with her brother Monday, according to the Vancouver Police Department.

Police said the girl, Amanda Baer, and her 11-year-old brother, Stardog Delao, were walking in the 3500 block of S Street toward Washington Elementary School Monday morning.

A man grabbed Amanda and tried to run away with her, but Stardog pushed the man, causing him to let go of the girl, police said.

Officers said the two children ran home and the man followed them. He was last seen headed toward 33rd Street.

Based on the children’s statements, police generated a composite drawing of the man.

He is described as Hispanic, between 45 and 50 years old, 5 feet 10 inches tall and about 150 pounds. He had black, shoulder-length hair, a thick mustache, a wrinkled face and a deep voice.

He was last seen wearing a dark-green trench coat and black hiking-style boots.

Police said he was described as dirty and possibly a transient.

Officers checked several transient camps for the man, but no one matching the description was located.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Vancouver Police Department at 360-487-7431.

21-Year-Old Convicted In Restaurant Murder

A 21-year-old man accused in the shooting death of a fellow employee at a Regency-area restaurant last year was convicted Thursday of second-degree murder.

A jury took only 30 minutes to return a verdict on Kyle Bass. He was charged in the fatal shooting of 18-year-old DaShane Harris on June 16, 2006 at La Salsa restaurant.

Harris was shot in the back of the head after the restaurant closed.

Arrest Made in Ole Miss Track Star’s Murder Oxford Police Continue Investigation Into Lockhart Shooting

A 21-year-old man accused in the shooting death of a fellow employee at a Regency-area restaurant last year was convicted Thursday of second-degree murder.

A jury took only 30 minutes to return a verdict on Kyle Bass. He was charged in the fatal shooting of 18-year-old DaShane Harris on June 16, 2006 at La Salsa restaurant.

Duplin County authorities says they’re made three arrests in the murder of a taxi cab driver.

Jesse Faison, Jr. was found dead in his cab back on May 25th on Cool Springs Road in southern Duplin County.

Police today announced three people have been charged with Faison’s robbery, kidnapping and murder.

Charged are Anthony Kenan, Jr. 18 of Teachey, Rochael Dobson, 18 of Wallace, and Brandon Rice, 20 of Rose Hill.

Deputies say the trio face charges of 1st degree kidnapping, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, 1st degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon

Dobson is in the Sampson County jail, with the two men are in the Duplin County jail.

The sheriff said continuing information coming from the community, along with information from Warsaw police, the State Bureau of Investigation & the Sampson

County Sheriff’s Office helped break the case.

More charges in Clearwater shooting

Clearwater, Florida — A teenager accused of killing a Clearwater man faces three more charges of attempted first degree murder, officials reported Tuesday.

The new counts against Gaylord Shaw, 19, were announced just after he made his first appearance in court on the original first degree murder charge, and was remanded to the jail without bond.

Police said he fired shots into a car at the corner of N. Betty Lane and Springdale Street.

The car took off and crashed into a power pole blocks away. Michael Scott, 23, died at a local hospital and his brother, Antinio, 24, was hospitalized in stable condition, suffering injuries in the crash.

Grandmother Says Boy Was High When Child Was Shot

The grandmother of a teenager accused of shooting a 6-year-old girl to death said he should have been in custody at the time the little girl died.

Jordan Goodwin, 14, is accused of shooting and killing Alazia Alford, 6.

Goodwin was in court on Tuesday afternoon on unrelated charges. His grandmother, Jean James, accompanied him and spoke quietly with him as he hung his head and listened to the proceedings of a detention hearing.

James said afterward that her grandson should have been in custody on Friday when Alazia was killed.

“They had him in custody, and they and used a private escort service to transport him from the Council Bluffs Jail to the Youth Center, and he got out of the car,” James said.

On Wednesday, Joleet M. Poole, 23, was booked into jail on suspicion of child abuse resulting in death.

Police said today they have arrested a man charged Wednesday with murdering a man, sexually assaulting and stabbing the dead man’s girlfriend, slapping her baby and setting their apartment on fire.

Investigators Arrest Suspect In Cold Case Murder

Investigators in Washington County have made a break in a cold case.

Six years ago, an elderly woman was beaten and stabbed to death in her apartment and now police have arrested a suspect.

Vanzella Smith, 83, was described as feisty and funny, known to everyone as “Grandma Van.” Her life came to a horrific end when she was murdered in her Maple Terrace apartment in Washington.

Police arrested Samuel Pierce, 41, in New Haven, Connecticut. Pierce moved into the apartment above Smith’s 17 days before her death.

His DNA was collected at the crime scene. Police say it popped up as a match in a computer database system. He registered his DNA in Connecticut under the state’s sex offender law.

Pierce served time there for an alleged sexual assault and moved to Washington County, shortly before Smith’s killing.

Since the murder, Pierce moved back to Connecticut. Police from Pennsylvania went there and arrested him. He’s now in the Washington County Jail on a criminal homicide charge.

Arrest Made in Harnett County Murder

The Harnett County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man in connection with the murder of a Dunn man.

Tony McKoy, Jr. was taken into custody Sunday.

The body of Tyrone Devon Turrintin, 25, was found in the yard of a Dunn home at 184 Mixon Road on Thursday, Sept. 20.

McKoy, 24, has been charged with first degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon.

He is being held at the Harnett County Detention Center with no bond.

A 15-year-old girl that was arrested in connection with an armed home invasion in July which resulted in the deaths of two men, is facing two additional felony charges. She will be tried as an adult.

Detectives with the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit filed two charges of robbery with a firearm resulting in a death against Trisha Leigh Wofford Thursday.

She is already facing an armed home invasion robbery charge.

She will have her first appearance on the new charges Friday.

Victims Cristobal Perez Rodriguez, 24, and Jose Manuel Lopez-Rodriguez, 22, were found dead in their Mobile Gardens trailer at 137 Via Madonna in Englewood on July 23rd.

There are four other suspects in the case and their charges are listed below.

• Felton Joseph Stevens, 17, of Venice -two counts of second degree murder

• Tristan Anthony Hampton, 18, of Venice -two counts of second degree murder, robbery with a firearm involving death

• Mason Adam Washington, 31, of Venice -two counts of second degree murder, robbery with a firearm involving death

• Danielle Stephanie Williamson, 18, of Englewood -two counts of murder while engaged in a felony offense

Less than an hour after listening to her parents plead guilty to their role in a bizarre kidnapping case, 20-year-old Katelyn Kampf vowed she would neither forgive nor forget what they did to her.

“I want to tell them how much they hurt me … and how angry I am. I’ve never heard my mom say she was sorry, ever,” she said.

The case that has been called “an American family tragedy” began one morning September 2006, in North Yarmouth, Maine. Katelyn Kampf had just told her parents she was pregnant by her boyfriend, Reme Johnson, and had decided to keep the baby.

“They said, ‘it’s either abortion or adoption,’” she said.

Kampf said she got into a heated argument with her parents and contends that her mother held her down and spit on her and that her father “tackled her like a football player” when she left the house. They bound her and threw her in a car, Kampf said, in an effort to drive to New York and force her to have an abortion. She managed to escape in Salem, N.H., and call the police.

“After that I hoped I would never see them again,” said Katelyn Kampf.

But she did see her parents again, 13 months later in a Maine courtroom.
