Man charged in rape, beating with 2-by-4
2nd man arrested; police say he played indirect role after fact
Police have arrested two men in connection with a brutal Wednesday morning rape in which the victim was hit several times in the head with a 2-by-4.
Jequan Sloan was arrested Thursday morning — a little more than a day after the assault in Grier Heights. Police charged him with attempted murder, rape, sex offense, kidnapping and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Sloan, 27, has an extensive arrest history, according to court records. In 2002, he was sentenced to more than a year in prison for selling cocaine. The court has also banned him from several east Charlotte apartment complexes.
Officers also arrested a man they believe played an indirect role in the sexual assault and beating. Kevin Martel Laney, 23, was charged with accessory to a felony after the fact and possession of a firearm by a felon. Laney was in Mecklenburg jail on $100,000 bond.
He was found guilty of possessing marijuana with intent to distribute in 2004. He also has pending trials for several charges that include maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of selling or using drugs.
On Wednesday, witnesses said they heard a woman screaming outside a vacant apartment on Billingsley Road just before 6 a.m. They said they saw a man punch the woman in the face and knock her down. He then hit her in the back of the head repeatedly with a board, the witnesses said.
Witnesses, who did not want their names used, hid their children and were afraid to intervene in the attack. But they did call 911.
One of the witnesses said the attacker put down a silver handgun while he used the board to hit the woman, who was nude from the waist down.
The attacker paced back and forth near the injured woman, the witnesses said, until sirens could be heard. He then ran away.
The woman was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, but police did not have an update on her condition.

Almost a nigger but not quite, it would be a few generations before this creature would be attacking women, raping, and then beating them with 2X4’s. Gosh, I sure hope they never come in contact with White people, don’t you? This creature was most certainly the creature known as the “Beast of the Field” in the Bible. A creature that was part man - part beast and was the resultant of satanic efforts to destroy divine creation by mingling the blood of Godly creation with that of the primitive primate. This creature (or something similar) was the beast that wreaked havoc upon Job’s world. All the so-called “Christians†(and all the other nigger-lovers - especially the White females who want to breed with the beast) may want to look into this.
